The route is great - it starts at Pewley down with a cool little down hill run on the edge of Pewley down - off camber and chalky ground. Then through the trees and down a bridle way to the trees, which is a middle/top grinding uphill to the road. Once you get to the road take a left on the tarmac and then the first right up the short sharp climb bridle way. You'll get to a grassy green where you can rest and play around before climbing up to the church - another middle ring grind on sand, tree roots and pine cones under the trees - great stuff.
Now at the church all the climbing pays for a class downhill on single track with everything thrown in - steps, roots, rocks - all through the trees at a good speed - shift into the big ring and really hammer!
Once you get to the car park go right on the tarmac then the first left onto a bridle way which is fast fire road and decends through trees - a quick left ( watch the speed here ) and then a right into a farm yard. Carry on through the farm yard and across the chalk road, I recommend taking it easy here as the last bit is the climb upto Newlands Corner - a b*tch of a climb. at the end of the chalk take the left and climb up the easy bit, then take the right track and shift into your granny ! Its rutted - covered in rocks and slippery all at once - if you clean this then well done. Take the left at the junction onto the chalk climb - still granny for me and grind upto Newlands Corner where a shop sells food and drink - here there are loads of single track routes and bomb holes. When finished simply take the right bridle way down to town - a downhill big ring blast down into Guildford! - A great work out

Customer Service

Right - I've got a map from the Guildford crown court - long story. The ride usually starts from Surrey University at campus sport centre - details on contacts in the university mountain bike team can be found at http://www.surrey.ac.uk under clubs and mountain bike. Anyway first you ride into the town centre and go up the high street, take the first right down Quarry street and then the first left up castle street. After this you can either grind up in the granny ring up Pewley hill - @ 12% gradient, or go up STH HL Warwicks and take the first left up fort road - this time a middle ring short bash up tarmac. If you ride along the road a short way recovering you'll get to Pewley down - the first dirt on this class little route.

Similar Products Used: Just ask the mountainbike club or goto Guildford Cycles - If you ever in Guildford next year - after August '99 get in contact with me and I'll show you the route - happy riding.

Lots of excellent riding in this part of the south-east, check with locals for the best spots. Can get very muddy and slippery (on the chalk) in winter.
