Start at the creg y brenin MTB centre which is a good place to meet like minded people and check out latest products in the car park. For information it is sponsored by 'Red Bull' a caffeine based stimulant drink (hence the name of the route)that is best avoided except with vodka when it comes into its own, anyway I digress. Designed by a local MTB hero I think. The trail is clearly marked from the carpark and you quickly climb up out of the valley and very soon get beautiful views during the first slog climb, the first bit can get abit busy on weekends try evenings as the whole thing is only 1-1.5 hours depending on fitness and bravery. As a technical training loop it cannot be surpassed but as a 'let's see the countryside route' then get a map and plan it yourself. The descent back to the carpark was fun though and seems to go on for ages with lots of variety. What is far longer and more impressive with some evil single track through some woods is the karrimor trail (karrimor being a outdoor clothing manufacturer) saw some great facial injuries from that! anyway it was really tiring but worth it and better than red bull in my opinion. Oh and take an appropriate tool NOT a heavy downhill bike like I did. a nice light hardtail or full sus like heckler or explosif etc. Customer Service You can't miss it as it is waymarked all the way. A bit of a dissapointment I feel. Basically it's like a road with a few bits of singletrack. If you have no map reading skills and no imagination, this is the place for you. However, if you don't like cycling with 324 other cyclists on a motorway, I suggest you plan your own route and be a little more adventurous. Has to be said though, good for beginners or just a quick blast. I just don't like having signposts telling me where to go basically, I don't think I'll be going again somehow. Customer Service Route??? Hah. Follow the signs, it's like following a motorway. Similar Products Used: Hmm let me think.....just a few. |

Follow the posts. BUT, far too many fire road downs. singletrack is fantastic while it lasts, but there is far too much fire road shite. MBR and Karrimore get it for me. At least fire roads only go up on these! Wouldn't miss not doing the red bull again, but seem to do it every time we visit Coed!! Customer Service Oh really? The Red Bull Trail starts with an exhausting uphill climb which zig-zags up the valley until you finally reach the top where there is an amazing view out over the forest and the surrounding valleys. However, there is more than just uphill, with exhilerating, breathtaking descents and dangerous technical sections that would challenge even the best mountain biker. It's good, but not that good... The sort of thing that gives the beginner a good overview of the sport, well reccomended for the first few hours of a fledgling MTBRER. Yes, there is a fair amount of fireroad, but hang on,, how else can you link the sections? Ski lifts? granted, it would be nice if the fireroads were just the uphills, but the whole trail is hardly a dicks length long anyway.. The sort of thing that is nice to have as your evening ride, but it is in the middle of wales and most of us do not live there.. Busy, but so what? i like rip arseing past the rabbits as I hare along.. Pity that it is almost all singltrack. (the fun bits) I prefer to do "in flight" overtaking manovers ala duel slalom style.. Nothing worse that being stuck behind a drone rider when you want to fly.. Although yopu can sometimes hop the fallen comrades.. As for the actual funfilled parts, I found them OK but I would only give them 7/10 because they did not FLOW. The jumps were not well spaced for the standard of rider to be expected, often ill located on bends and with some landing sites that would not be friendly. Not easy to get flow when you have to concentrate on distracting vegetation (overgrown) and have to bust your lungs pedalling till the last minute to get air on some pretty phallic jumps. then worry about how the hell will you stop in time for the next obstacle.. should not be like that, it could have been so much better,... (maybe I'm just a shite rider?) I have seen 14 year old kids make much superior flowing double rackers in the local dirt park so sodf this for a "profeesional" effort.. Sorry, its a case of this REd bull not giving me the sort of wings I am used to.. then agian, it did have fott in mouth when I went.. The car park? Super, my dog did a few good turds in it, and the went some way to repelling the hordes of poseurs who gave the place the aura of a trendy gay bar.. The major population explosion wah of course the FLYING PESTS. Customer Service Cant go wrong.. Similar Products Used: Pack the INSECT repellant!!!!!! |

The Red Bull is advertised as the adrenalin junkies fun park but in reality it is as some previous reviewers have stated a trial that gives beginners as real taste as to what MTBing is all about. The start is mainly a fire road climb and then follows some single track interspersed with more fireroads. The desending is rocky but nothing that get those butt cheeks clenching if you know what I mean. If you are an experienced MTber then the Red Bull provides a good warm up to the other trails to be had in the area. What the Red Bull and the other trails are though a very well constructed year round courses which drain well. In the summer you would probably find better in the surrounding countryside but as we all know summer tends to last for at best 2 weeks in the UK (especially in Wales) so full marks to the builders. One last footnote. I went there as it was the ONLY place in the UK that was open to MTBing because of F&M so they deserve five chillis just on that basis. Customer Service No choice when I was there. Similar Products Used: If you are a more experienced rider then the MBR trail is much better. The descending I really enjoyed and it flows much better than the RB. The Karrimor was still closed when I went so can't comment. It is clear that the skill in building the trails is increasing as each new one is opened. |
