Great trail - and a lot tougher than most too! Long hard climbs that sap your energy, fast scary descents and great technical sections this trail has it all. Just watch out for Snap Crackle and Pop and The Adams Family sections.... some real stings in the tail on those bits! Having said that i think I prefer the Marin or Glentress as it all hangs together better and 'flows' from section to section whilst still maintaining the technical nature of the trails. More than worthwhile to visit and thoroughly recommended.

Spanky Special   Weekend Warrior [Jan 07, 2005]

Having found the Marin trail by accident and convinced my novice boyfriend to have a go I was hooked....we had never riden anything like this and it became our benchmark.... This week we revisited our favourite mountain bike haunt and again tackled the Marin trail for a second time, but felt this time that it was lacking the excitement and challenge of the first time. We wanted to go one better (and scare myself silly!).....what I found was the Karrimor trail.....which did all of this and showed me that I had far more stamina than I thought........ I decided (with some encouragement....) to 'live a little', 'take a risk', and to 'get back on it you girl'..... Best trail so far......and won't forget the welcome sight of the cafe cum shed for a well earned chocolate flap jack.....

In North Wales it is the original and (in my view) the best of the forest trails. It is 27 miles of just about everything a good mountain biker would want. The nearby Marin and MBR trails are a bit shorter and tremendous fun, but the Karrimor drags me back again and again. Its sufficiently technical to be a challenge, but you can still ride it hard and (most of the time) stay on.

Do the full route for the experience, although there are a few short cuts if you know the area well enough.

Got dragged here by some mates who are MTB'ing junkies. My first real taste of biking and I absolutely loved it! Warmed up with the Redbull on the first day (found it relatively easy) but then hit the MBR and this monster on the second. The climbs seem to go for ever but the downhills make up for it. Quick tip for any beginners who are riding with experienced riders - don't try and keep up! Went head over handlebars twice on the Karrimor and how I escaped injury I'll never know. Take it at your own pace and you'll love it. We stopped about 5 miles up the road in some log cabins at a ski village. These were superb, slept 6 and only £40 a head for two nights (with a great pub just up the road) - http://www.logcabins-skiwales.co.uk/.

This has got to be the best man made trail anywhere, I kid you not. God awful lung bustin climbs, and thats just the start, wait till ya go to the other side of the forest, there's up an then there's *uckin UP. All this is offset by some stunning techy single track, 1700ft of turnytwisty down (the D man's enlightened). This is a route for fit boys and girls, be warned. Have done this route when its bone dry and when its wetter than a waterfall in a rainstorm, its just cool either way. And when you get back just crash in to the madcafe and eat ya cake.

Great trail. My speedo showed 19 miles, rather than the 27 quoted above - and there was no evidence of the trail having been shortened.

However, it is one of the longest 20 mile rides I have done... It took over 3 hours with a few small stops, and there is 3200 feet of vertical climb (mostly on fire roads). The views are excellent, and the descents tight, sharp and technical.

The ratio of fire trail to single track is the only negative point. I would guess the ratio is about 70% road to 30% single track. Don't let that put you off though. It is a beautiful trail with some inspiring single track descents, in an area which is dedicated to cool, sponsored, designed and maintained MTB trails.

Make a weekend of it, and do this one, the RedBull, and MBR also. They all rock.
