Well I rode this place for the first time yesterday and I was well impressed. Some of the sweeping singletrack was great stuff..nice hard pack mud so you can really go for it, with jumps here and there for the added buzz. I found the steep downhills a bit much with no disc brakes and was struggling to keep control, but fun all the same. Better than Avon Timberland Trail and better than Leigh Woods in my opinion, I will definitely be coming back here on a regular basis.

From Bristol, park in Tickenham somewhere if you can. Ride through Tickenham and then turn right at the red phonebox. This lane leads up to a bridge over the M5 which takes you straight into the woods.

Similar Products Used: Ashton court, Leigh Woods etc.. but if you have a car hop over the bridge to Wales and ride Cwm Carn and Forest of Dean for some proper riding.

These woods are the best in area IMHO, with singletrack, jumps, drop-offs, DH sections to suit all abilities. The firetrack rides between sections have some great views over Somerset, and there's a great local pub near the start/end of the ride for your refreshment. If you live near Bristol/Somerset and you haven't tried it... you really should! You will want to come back!

Enter the quarry (not strictly legal) and cycle up one level. You then almost double back on yourself over some gravel heaps and you are then into single-track heaven. Nortons Wood is not necessarily a particularly large area but it is 100% rideable and you can spend hours in there without getting bored. There are loads of short but steep climbs and short but oh so sweet downhill bits. Lots of good sweeping single-track. Plenty of technical stuff as well as some fast firetracks to blast through. If you are into history/archaelogogy, you must stop off and look at the ancient Cadbury Camp hill fort - superb - proves that us Celts were playing in these woods long before the English foreigners arrived!!!!
The trail down the side of Tickenham golf course is a lovely swooping downhill to be done at speed - look out for the gate at halfway + you do stumble across walkers and horseriders, but I can honestly say they provide no hassle - you show them respect and they show us respect - QED.
Another good place to start is round the back of All Saints Church in Clevedon on the main Clevedon to Portishead road.
Enjoy.

Customer Service

Start at the dis-used quarry on Nortons Wood Lane - a narrow lane running from the east end of Clevedon to Clapton-in-Gordano (There is a superb cider-house at the far end called The Kicker. A couple of pints of their cider and you will go blind. Best to drink there after the ride!).
