The Felsenmeer - TRAIL

The Felsenmeer - Trail, Heidelberg, Germany

Black rating. This trail is 3.5km long and decends 450m down to Schlierbach. It is narrow, very rocky, has some parts under a stream, twists & turns, and now (in Autumn) has lots of slippery leaves. Initially found by me & Maj Britt. Hej hej.

I used to ride this trail every week until it got cold. If you go up to Konigstuhl there are endless amounts of trails up there to come down. Some more difficult than others. Some trails are rocky as all hell and there are some really good fast singletracks. I recommend fullfaced helmets and body armor. By the way BOBO is an idiot. These trails are hard and fast. I say have fun. If you want to ride just drop me a line and I'm game and ready to ride.

Awsome singletrack! Even in springtime the leaf litter hides some rather significant sized rocks. I haven't tried this trail going up but down is great. I look forward to riding it again.

This trail is great, really great. That sums it up folks!

From the konigstuhl you will immediately start on a trail that's steep, narrow, twisty, rocky, and can have a stream running down it. At the moment (Autumn '98) there's a copious layer of slippery leaves on most parts of this trail, but especially so on the lower sections close to Schlierbach. At around 3.5km this trail is short, but descends 450m.

Customer Service

Stay on the path, if you can! Those trees are hard, and the rocks are even harder.

"Black" is the only way to rate this....
Worst section is 50 metres of worn / polished rocks in a crazy paving between 5 and 15 centimetres higher then it's neighbour on an average 15% gradient. In the wet you'll be lucky to stay on the bike, understeer, oversteer and one skid mark too many.
As for the rest, if the grass and thorn borders to the 1 metre wide path have grown expect to hit 15 cm unseen rocks whilst having skin taken off you're arm. If the grass etc has been cut back its a good run down.

As far as I remember from Schlierbach you head basically straight up the mountains, keeping to your right. The entrance to the Felsenmeer is a very narrow singletrail, that leaves on of the bigger trails on the left side. Youll recognize the Felsenmeer when youre in it. After the Felsenmeer turn right an keep going to the top of the Koenigsstuhl. When youre at the Koenigsstuhlbahn, follwo the road for about 20m and then turn into a single trail on the right. Its basically all downhill from there.

Customer Service

Basically, there are two choices to do this trail, up or down. Down is tough enough, but try to do the Felsenmeer going up! Youre going to need lots of stamina, very very good climbing skills and a very good cross country bike. Going up also has the advantage, that you can take the "Kamikaze Downhill" down to Heidelberg.

This is a really nice little trail. It's difficult, but not murderous and has some brilliant views over the valley of the River Neckar. Partly the vegetation around is somehow mediterranean like.
