Mont Glen Mountain Park - TRAIL

Mont Glen Mountain Park - Trail, Knowlton, Quebec

Being a ski resort, this place offers 40 km of cross-country riding for the intermediate to expert rider. Get ready for some climbing but you are rewarded with some downhill afterwards. This place is so beautiful and quiet. You can even ride here and not cross another rider. Even if the XC trails are new as of this year, a map has already been printed. Ask for one at the desk. This place hasn't been discovered by most mountain bikers yet, so do enjoy all this singletrack!

For 2006: private property and no longer open to mountain bikers.

I love this place. It challenges me in every aspect of MTB there are some twisty sections in the 17 not to mention the drops, the roots, the climbs and the descents below the campground. The star wars section is really cool, it isn't super challenging but ride it in the second ring and you will fell like you are in the scene of star wars where they are flying through the pine trees. If you do climb to the top and are into trials a bit challenge yourself and do the loop du sommet, there are logs and and rocks that must be hoped over.

Then there is Phil's elbow (named after Phil who skinned his elbow the first time he rode it) Do not ride in the wet unless you are a Kamikaze. This is an Extreme trail that is not marked on the Glen map. Do not explore this trail alone it can be brutal, but it will challenge any rider.

Anyone who wishes to explore these trails needs just to contact the Montreal Mountain Bike club if they would like someone who knows the terrain.

Note: Riders are alloweed to ride on the hiking trails even though they are marked otherwise. Since MTB is new to the mountain they have not correct the situation yet.

There is an annual September Festival here usually towards mid Sept.

They have a full facility campgroud with electricity and showers and the whole 9 yards. www.glen.qc.ca

Posted routs are the best ones. The route from exit 90 is 100% pavement and the route from 106 is a very well maintained dirt road.

Great variety. The trails built on Glen are not quite up to a point where one could compare them to trails like Bromont, or Coaticook, but that is mostly due to the low volume of riders on them. In time, more riders will create a nice groove that will greatly increase the flow of the trail. Right now there are many sections which a lot of people will rather walk due to difficulty, and in between these, single and doubletrack connects them. You must know where to find these challenges though, because it's tough to find them on a map.

As for Mt-Foster, this is one of the toughest trail I've ridden. True DH type trails might have some scarrier sections, but in terms of difficulty, Phil's elbow takes the cake. Note that it is unrideable in the rain, a statement echoed by EVERYBODY I've spoken to. In the dry, you have a better chance of clearing it, but you still face losing odds. Four words: "Good luck!" and "Body Armour"

Customer Service

If you want an easier time, try the main mountain trails. If you want something a lot more hardcore, ride to the top of Mt-Foster, and take "Phil's Elbow" down, preferably in the dry.

The trails are very new and need more traffic to make them smoother / faster. Expect lots of climbing to reach the top but some fun downhill. Cannot remember all the trail #'s but the #1 had loads of switchbacks that were cut too tight to bike through. This meant a few dismounts which became frustrating to our group of epxerienced riders.

This is the worst biking I have ever done. Trails are not marked or cleared for that matter. It was like taking my bike for a 3 hour walk. I think the only people that would talk positively about this trail are the ones hoping more people will come. Don't waste your time when you have Bromont around the corner.

Time to update this place. Mt-Glen just hasn't been able to keep this place up. After a promising start back in 2000, they really haven't done anything in the last 2 years. Do yourself a favor and skip this place. Too bad, because this place had a good outlook for mountain bikers in general.
