Welland Canal Trail - Trail, Thorold/St. Catharines, Ontario

Welland Canal Trail - Trail, Thorold/St. Catharines, Ontario

DESCRIPTION

Running along the western side of the canal, this trail is reportedly also used for motocross racing. With over 40 miles of single track and fire roads this trail makes for a great ride with lots of tight turns and some spectacular whoop-de-doos. We have done some great night rides through here. How fast you go is determined by your skill level.

Fast, not to technical. If you want to haul ass, this trail rocks. Still have more to explore, but thats what summer is for. (Iam a poet!HA)

Customer Service

Just found it, we entered into the trail at Woodsend, and followed it along. A little muddy but it was worth it when we found the lighting fast trail along the old welland canal by GM

I don't see the short hills(provincial park Thorold) anywhere here. Pretty diverse trails.

the bit along the old welland canal...your riding a few feet away from the old lock walls...about a 40 foot shear drop.
lots of different trails to take, some are kinda overgrown with that spiky hawthorn shit...
lots of ups and downs and twists, big ruts from the motocrossers...was riding a trail and had to get out of the way when 2 dirt bikes buzzed by, some of the trails are not used by the dirt bikers though.

Customer Service

get in at the GM plant on Glendale ave. in St. Catharines, or take the Bruce trail from Woodend conservation area

There is too much to describe
AFTER YEARS OF MOTOCROSSERS RIDE IN THIS AREA THE TRAILS ARE CRAZY THERE ARE SO MANY WAYS TO GO IT IS EASY TO GET LOST AT FIRST, BUT AFTER A FEW VISITS THE TRAILS KICK ASS.

Customer Service

If coming from Wood End:
1. turn right for a short but sweet ride on the Bruce. 2. turn left for a crazy ride on a motocross track.
3. ride straight to the railroad tracks and hit a train

If you ride in from Woodend you will be trespassing on the new golf course that is there now.You are in the trees for the most part and if you stay on the cart paths you should have no problem reaching the canal trails. I have never been stopped yet. I hear the golf course is in financial trouble so this small problem may soon be gone.

A good race with the fellas should work up a good thirst. Take a dip in the canal after. If you're a tough guy try, to swim across the canal with your bike on your back...don't try this alone!!

Customer Service

If you ride canal bank into Port Robinson you'll find a serious race course used primarily by dirtbikes, just follow the road up the hill.
