Durham East (Pickering, Ajax) - part of the waterfront trail system - TRAIL

Durham East (Pickering, Ajax) - part of the waterfront trail system - Trail, Pickering, Ontario

The waterfront trail system starts from Niagra Falls, ON, Canada and extends 740Kms North East. When it's completed it'll be 1,000Kms long and is planned to end at the Ontario/Quebec border. The "Durham East" part of the waterfront trail system is located in Pickering & Ajax, ON, Canada. In Pickering, travel to Brock Road, then head South all the way down to the last intersection (Brock Road/Mongonery Park Road). Follow Montgomery Park Road East and then South, just short of the dead end/look out point/parking lot for the trail. The entrance to the path will be on your left hand side (see red marked on map). It is comprised of a group of connected paved park routes that's 30Kms long (one way). Along the route are - one elevated, one vaulted and two flat/ground level bridges. Right after the elevated bridge is a very short fine gravel/sandy section (50m) due to blowing sand a few meters in from the lake and covers the path to a depth of 5cms. The trail has the odd short distance steep hill to climb with two longer hills of a lower incline. No trail markers show what your travelling on nor the next connections location. From 2003-2006 a lot of permanent park benches, chained garbage cans (oil drums), a few dozen young trees and two large waterfront trails signs were installed (mainly in Ajax). These items can be a hazard to cyclist while travelling West, especially at night as they are located immediately off the path.

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER!!! (yet again)

Sadly I was NOT able to ride this path today due to the cold.
This trail was excellent for the few rides I went out on in 2011 with no broken glass spotted!
Again the dips, ruts, cracks, bumps are getting bigger each year.
The weeds filling them do help to cushion the ride in case you do go over them.
The newest painted line is white and wide, fading in some high traffic areas & where puddles of water persist.
Wild animals were kept to rather a minimum, the odd garter snake & frogs to nearly run over, IEE!
Idiot pedestrians still persist to litter the path.
Mainly due to walking into on-coming traffic even with a clearly marked painted white line.
The odd fool who still thinks their dog can be anywhere on the path as long as it's on a leash still persist!

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER!!! (yet again)

Sadly I was NOT able to ride this path today due to the cold & rain.
This trail was excellent for 2010 with no broken glass spotted!
Again the dips, ruts, cracks, bumps are getting bigger each year.
The weeds filling them do help to cusion the ride incase you do go over them.
The painted blue line got a top coat of yellow that's also wider & is holding up well.
Wild animals were kept to rather a minimun, but with plenty of red foxes, frogs & nearly run over, IEE!
I only had one flat rear tire for 2010, which I noticed while walking past my bike in the garage.
Some of the usual characters from previous were still not spotted like a guy who prefers to wear DH clothing.
The silver haired gent was spotted & passed once as he now prefers to go out biking around 12 noon.
Idiot pedestrians still persist to litter the path.
Mainly due to walking into on-coming traffic even with a clearly marked painted wider yellow line.
The odd fool who still thinks their dog can be anywhere on the path as long as it's on a leash still persist.
This year I had to phone the police after a woman walking her dog bit my right foot after it ran around it's own and then forced me to stop rather then collide with it,
I'm sorry now that I didn't plow into that damned mutt!

I also got into one accident this year, back on July 17 at approx. 1pm/EST in Ajax, ON.An idiot parked his Forest Green Mini Van facing south, got out of his vehicle - slammed his door shut and was eyeing me hard. Most likely to steal my bike as it's expensive and he had plenty of storage space in his mini van.The idiot in question without looking to see if South bound traffic are coming crossed the road while watching me approach.By one house south of him I veared to my left - half way between him and his vehicle. He then attacked me by stopping, pivoting to his right and slamming his right shoulder into me.This totaly shocked me, threw me hard to my left and into the side of his vehicle.I then bounced off of it and tried to re-gain my balance but it was too late.I went down hard on my right fore-arm, elbow, shin, knee, thigh.I was limping for 2-weeks solid with multi cuts, tons of bruising and 2 hematomas. My helmet was cracked in 3 places, my second time worn new shorts were scrubbed on the right thigh. After paying $5 and waiting 1 month the local police were totaly useless. The worthless/idiot cop believed every word from my attacker!

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER!!! (again)

Sadly I was NOT able to ride this path today due to rain.
This trail was excellent for 2009 with no broken glass spotted!
Again the dips, ruts, cracks, bumps are getting bigger each year.
The weeds filling them do help to cusion the ride incase you do go over them.
The painted blue line (seperating traffic in Ajax) has held up well.
A few more park benches were added along with a gazebo to reduce the cleaning & path extension budgets, oh well!
The security patrol was never spotted during the long summer months where the next crop of criminals are cutting their teeth.
Police were spotted only once during the early part of the Spring.
Wild animals were kept to rather a minimun, but with plenty of snakes spotted & nearly run over, IEE!
One dead golden eagle was spotted along with a turtle in a park attempting to cross the road.
The drug dealers from near the end of the path in Ajax have not been spotted for 2yrs now, hurray!
I did manage to get 2 flat tires in one day, believe it or not but both within 12hrs to be specific.
The first was due to my rear side tires rubber cracking & the innertube burst through.
The read headed girl at the Child Day Care was very friendly in allowing me to make an emergency phone call home - Thanks, your a life saver!
The nafter buying a new tire & innertube, I joined my friends for a nite bike ride.
The second flat tire was caused a mere 100m before the day-time flat location and this time was caused by the innertube pushing away the rim strip and puncturing in the spoke hole.
Big thanks go out to: my fiancée, CasH & Timon escorting me safely out from the non street lighted road for 4Kms to an Esso Gas Station.
Some of the usual characters from previous were not spotted like a guy who prefers to wear DH clothing, the silver haired gent and the guy with no helmet but wearing and mp3 player.
One group of 3 race cyclists one day were fun to pace off of.
Idiot pedestrians still persist to litter the path.
Mainly due to walking into on-coming traffic even with a clearly marked painted blue line.
This year many new people opted to shout-hey, slow down! or slow down!
The odd fool who still thinks there dog can be anywhere on the path as long as it's on a leash.

I had a bike frame fail/brake on me on Sept.06.
Luckily I was able to ride it home upto 20Kms/hr for 14Kms.
The weld right above the re-inforced area where the seatpost meets the bottom bracket let go!
With my dads help over 2 days & 15hrs each we took the parts off this broken bike and put it onto an older bike.
I hope I can meet the guy I showed my broken frame to (on a silver full susp. bike with left mirror) my new bike one day in 2010!
A few times I managed to spot then catch upto & ride with the cute, busty, young white lady from last years posting on a black 2001 Trek Fuel 90 Disk full susp. mtb.
WOW! She is cute as heck, firm yet jiggly & a tight little bum, sweet!
Apparently she got herself a new ride, a 2009 Trek Fuel EX7 full susp.
So look for her on a TiTanium coloured bike if you don't like riding alone at approx. 12-2pm.

REMEMBER, REMEMBER THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER!!!

After not having ridden this path for 6 weeks (during daylight hours) & 8 weeks (during night-time hours).
I went out on...THE FIFTH OF NOVEMBER!!!

Apparently the cool/cold temperatures did nothing for the mindless pedestrians on the path. Why do people with dogs always opt to look behind themselves when I approach?

I'm getting a little sick & tired of the dog leashes that block off the entire width of the path!

The newest A-hole to watchout for apparently only appears during the hours of 12pm-2pm as he likes to have his shirt off and carry it in his left hand with his right hand empty. Yes, I hear you asking yourself does this mindless Russian looking fellow walk a dog? Well you are correct! This canine is very easy to distinguish as it's a British Bulldog WITHOUT a leash. His owner is un-mistakeable as his neck is physicaly thicker then his head - the thick muscle head!

Customer Service

Now we move onto our Cash Contest...regarding how long the idiot next door can drive until he next damages his car.

Well friends, I can tell you he is true to form & damaged his car on July 30,08.

The WINNER of the $260 Prize($20 entry/person)is no other then - CasH. Please, mail me your winning ticket and I will mail to you your cheque!

The newest development is that his wife now drives his vehicle. You should of seen this...It took her 6 tries of going forward-backward-forward-backward before she was able to park the car on her driveway parallel to the cement curbing.

My fiancee was assaulted/attacked by an Oriental person, male, +40yrs old, black hair (like you were expected something else, giggles!), 5'6" - 5'8" tall, about 150lbs, wearing a blue and white horizontaly stripped polo shirt, khaki trousers while walking his blonde/brown coloured little dog.

The first law he was breaking - was walking on the south side of the path while heading West (in other words on the left hand side/into on-coming traffic). He was walking with his left foot on the grass and the right foot on the path - come on Jung Wa make up your mind & make your play!

The second law he was breaking - was to have his little dog on one of those irritating re-tracktable leashes that was 10 feet out and by law (in Canada) your dog must be kept within an arms length.

The third law he broke - was to make contact and attack/assault my fiancee. At the last second the Oriental guy opted to throw his right arm into my fiancees right arm while shifting his body weight to help do so. The result...my fiancee actualy laughed it off as he just swered to the left (due to contact) and then back to the right to continue travelling East while going uphill.

Customer Service

I'm able to tell you all this as I was right behind him at the time and was looking up as we were traveling uphill.

We were thinking to wait for him to return to his vehicle at Millenium Park (on our return trip after we passed him from behind) to see what car he drives & get his license plate to report him to the police.

Instead, were planning to show up on April 27,08. between 12-2pm. Between Millenium Park and Shoal Point Road - take photos of him, his dog, his car and license plate. Email me if you'd like to see who to aviod.

My 2008 season finaly started on Sunday April 07,2008. It was still wet in 6 places, but I knew this already as there are wooded sections and other places due to bad water drainage. The asphalt surface has plenty of bumps, dips, cracks & the ruts are getting worse with plenty of them having moss growing in them. The Ajax section has new Waterfront trail markers/posts - atleast we now know where the grass cutting & clean-up budget (2007) went towards! Get this...the city of Ajax has also acquired the last 2 properties/plots of land at the end of Shoal Point Road on the south side of Lakeview Blvd. I just hope "our" tax dollars didn't go towards purchasing them at premium prices (the city couldn't buy them from the owners for the past 2 years).

Customer Service

The Oriental guy still has not received his Lexus from the damage he caused to it on Feb.13,08. and is still riding around in a black, 4dr, Hyundai. The Indian got his SUV fixed, so...place your bets, place your bets as to when he'll crack it up next, hehe! They finaly got the backyard raked clean of leaves this past Thursday (should of been done before the snow fell) + left the plastic underbumper on the front lawn for the garbage men to collect for 19 days. They finaly picked up all the shingles the previous winds blew off there roof just last week. Arg, I lost my bet! I had $10 on them not moving it until cutting the lawn by the start of June 2008. Atleast another member of my night biking group won the pool of $.

Similar Products Used: Please be careful (angry) pedestrians, we came across 2 people with a belief of a "god given right" to walk on the left hand side of the path/both directions. One person (I can't call him a gentleman) as he didn't act like one. I guess he doesn't know that Canada is not the U.K., Australia or whatever that Oriental nation is that drives on the left hand side of the road. I guess you could say he & I were playing a game of "Chicken". Well, guess who flintched first...did you guess? Nope, he did - haha!

I need to write the assault/attack on my fiancee in the next poting as my number of words are all used up.

Well the falling & melting snow for the 4th time this year (winter 2007/2008) still covers parts of the waterfront path. I wish "someone" up there would make up his mind - regarding snow OR no snow for the path. Oddly enough widelife realy doesn't like to come out during the snowy + ice cold winter months as almost no footprints have been spotted.

Customer Service

Well it's happened yet AGAIN! The idiot next door drove his 2004 Honda Pilot, black, 4dr, SUV on a snowy & icy day and this time Hit & Killed a snow angel. He did this on St.Valentine's Day and say - well atleast it's only the front bumper. A sweet $1,000 in damages no-less, giggles! He's also driving with the front license plate missing, correct me if I'm wrong but here in Canada isn't that illegal? (as you need 2 plates at ALL times, shame, shame!)But wait...it gets better: The day before, his neighbour Hit & Killed a snow angel aswell with his 200? Lexus, black, 4dr, sedan and must of hit a chunkier angel with front bumper & hood damage. I'm now worried for my life during the upcoming 2008 cycling season as we use the exact same road/s, IEE!

Speed limits in public parks are 20Km/hr and luckily I only spotted police cycling on the path one time in late summer 2007. I've done 35Km/hr (average speed) while racing/drafting off a fellow cyclist one afternoon, way to go guy! One cyclist to avoid rides a dark grey coloured hradtail with cage & strap pedals, wears DH clothing with a back-pack. This guy tends to go left & right at anytime without any concern for anyone behind him. Another rider that's fun to pace off of is a silver haired older guy that never wears a helmet and rides an older red coloured rigid mtb. Apparently he lives somewhere close to the Ajax/Whitby border as one day he was walking a black lab and soon after I spotted him on his bike. After seeing him for almost 6yrs, I finaly came up on him from behind and flew past him (the day I spotted him walking the black lab). The best guy I ever raced/drafter off of also doesn't wear a helmet but wears an MP3 player and can keep up a good 30-40Km/hr average speed. I also came across the Mayor of Ajax (Mr. Steve Parish) on a ride and we chatted for a little bit. Apparently he too "breaks the posted cycling law" while cycling across the elevated wood & metal bridge just west of the end of Millenium Park in Ajax. One little sweetheart of a female cyclist to watch for & cycle with is a young, white, sexy, busty (C to D cup), with long brunette hair in pig-tails under her helmet on a black full-suspension TREK mtb!!! If speed is your thing avoid this trail during - the lunch hour & weekends (during the summer months) as your just begging for trouble. Luckily for me, during my 2007 season I only clipped one lil chinese girl (6-10yrs old) in her left shoulder. Mind you she was alone (shame, shame - where were her parents?) I was just about to say to her "Don't back up!" when CLIP!

The best time to race this route is during the evening hours. But this is when the animals come out and you really need to watch out for them! For 2007 there were extra garter snakes slithering, plenty of stray cats & families of red foxes. I hardly saw/came across groundhogs, racoons, rabbits, only one deer was ever seen and the coyote of 2005 was never spotted. One night ride I did get sprayed by a skunk, but luckily for me she/he was young and must of had lil stink juice in his anal glands, giggles! My neighbour on his way home from work was heading North on Brock Road in Pickering...Hit & Killed a defenceless deer with his massive SUV. But the deer did get it's revenge causing $5,000 in non-insurance claiming damage - forcing them to rent a car for a week and lease a vehicle for a month, wee hee! You'll also need to watch out for peeps that are kissing & sex'n in the park. At times they're car is actually parked "on" the bike path or they're humping on park benches and even rolling around in the grass (just off the path). It can be fun to watch when you flash your headlights and they scramble to coverup, mmm! Underage drinking & drug deal/s still exist. Groups of 10-20 people tend to congregate in the park located at the end of Harwood Avenue South on Thursday nights after some local night-school lets out. One night I was yelled at by many of them to "Turn my light off!" yeah right - sorry, but I value my life a little bit more then you do! I advise you to ride this route during the day before a night ride as the broken glass from juice & beer bottles can cause multiple flat tires the next day. While cycling South on Brock Road just below Bayly Street, I came across a bunch of idiot motorist during the summer of 2007. One was from a group of punks who thought it would be more environmentally friendly to throw there giant bladder busting Coke at me then in a garbage can. They missed me as they forgot that when you throw things out of a moving car at 80Km/hr that you need to release it before you get to your intended target, idiots! One guy with lil $ who drives an old (late 1980's) rusty blue Chrysler Magic wagon thinks that if an eight-teen wheeler truck is in the left lane and I'm keeping up pace with the truck (in the curb lane) that I should not hold-up traffic and alow traffic to flow past us, yah right buddy! The best for last is a guy who nearly ran into me while returning to work, late from his lunch of course! He was so busy speeding past me and misjudged his braking point for the entrance to Hydro One (located at the SE corner of Brock Road & Clemnents Road in Pickering) that he opted to drive around the enterance/exit island and enter in the exit lane. This idiot drives a 2005 Honda Accord, black, 4dr sedan - he looks Jewish and I followed after him to tell him off! I held him up for a good 10-15mins as I told him I'm phoning the police to make a citizens arrest. He claimed all along that if anyone ever enters or exits an entry or exit from a business that "they" have the right of way. Re-read your car drivers hand-book, fool!

Similar Products Used: The public parks (Ajax) close at 11pm during the summer months due to teenage/young 20's mischief. I only came across the security company one time in the usual white pick-up truck. He stopped in the middle of the path and stuck out his arm at the last second with a medium voice saying - STOP! Yah right, catch me if you can! I just missed snapping his arm backwards with my left shoulder. We still ride this trail during the days & evenings from 2-4x/week depending on the temperature, wind speed, wind direction & provided it's dry. At this time I'd like to give a shout out to my fellow day & night bike riding peeps: The Rock (John), Mushpin (Robert), Mr.F1 (Jürgen), Ringmabell (John), Chooks (David), Type-R (Paul), Mr.VW (Ian), Big Frank (Robert's Older Brother), Sexy John (My fiancée), Pandie/Nutelly/Sweet Sunshine/Amanda/Kitty (Me), Lissie (The Dog), Hiey!
