Amazing set of trails. If you get over into the Outback section it is extremely technical with many short hard climbs and radical decents. There are bridges, ladders, drops, bolders, ledges, and various other obstacles. You can get detailed maps from www.mtbkanata.com and I recommend you try the trails on the west side.

there is such a huge varity of trails in Kanata lakes. From fast hard packed sections wich you can bomb at 35kmh , to narrow ridiculosly technical parts, with some north shore style ladders thrown in. EPIC!!!!!! you can find more info at www.mtbkanata.com

Short trails, (I don't think you'll find any one trail that is more than 3km), but really nice. Actual singletrack, contrary to most of Gatineau park. A really fun place to spend an hour or so. A couple of nice technical sections.

Customer Service

Take Ottawa River parkway bike paths and go west!

Similar Products Used: Bells Corners has some fast singletrack that is good for beginners. Gatineau park has a LOT of double track, with a few short climbs. Camp fortune has some more difficult stuff. There's lots of places to ride in the Ottawa area!

All the trails in the Kanata Lake area are mapped, check out boards at the Parking Lot on Goulburn Forced Road. A good 20km of interlaced singletrack. Lots of rolling terrain, no big climbs, fast riding, good little bits of technical rocky stuff. Beginner to Intermediate.

This is a great trail for begginers, or anyone who wants to get in a good ride after maybe a long stressful day at work, or somone getting back to biking after an injury. The trails are good singletrack with a big cliffside you can bike up and get a great view of the area. Another trick is on your way back home from the ride, take the long downhill road leeding to thunderbird and, turn left on the dirt road, and head to marshy's or hard rock cafe for a hard earned bite to eat!

Customer Service

Starting the rout at the beaverpond is the best way to take everything in.

Similar Products Used: The Old Quary Trail (Stony Swamp). not the best for biking in the summer, bit it is a pretty challenging ride in the end of winter when the snow gets rideable.

An amazing trail anytime of day or night!

Customer Service

Start on the house side of the beaverpond, head towards Goulbourn Forced road. Ride the trail that is off the asphalt so as to follow the length of the pond, once on the trail stay right as to hit the downhill. Cross the gravel road, ride any combination of the trails on that side of the road. Once you have completed the loop, cross the gravel road and head up to the parking lot. Enter the dirt trail in the corner of the parking lot keep left, keep a straight line (there are many paths going off to the sides) this trail will loop around back to the parking lot (5km) Enter back onto the same trail this time keeping right, this will head back to the original beaverpond, catch the downhill, go left on the gravel trail, you are back at where you started. (16km)

25 May 1999 - Just did a smoking 2 hour technical ride at KL and was shown some new (to me), fantastically technical singletrack to the extreme northwest section of the Kanata Lakes XC ski trails. There are some rocky highlands up in this section that made for some spectacular ascents and descents. I will go back again. None of the routes are marked, so just go out an hammer - you can't too lost...the area is bounded by two roads and a railway track - probably about 10-15 km-squared with about 30 to 40 km of trails max.

This, along with Multiple orgasm, is the only real singletrack in the Ottawa area. What I consider the front part of Kanata Lakes I would rate beginner , and maybe one notch up. The back part, sometimes referred by the regulars as the "Dark Side", is quite rocky and technical with some quality drop offs and relatively short technical climbs. One part of this Section I refer to as The Red Cross Section because, invariably, in a group ride, the trail will draw blood from at least one of the riders if all the dropoffs are attempted. It's not Noth Van or Wrandees in Halifax, but it' the best we got in Ottawa, and it will entertain for a couple of hours.

Hmmmm what can I say? I was at KL 3 times this season and each time was slightly different. Contrary to popular belief, a fraction of the trails are actually mapped, so DON'T rely on any of the maps nearby - you will get confused. I actually don't remember what part of the trails I was on except to say that I was on the west side of Goulburn road. The well used trails are pretty easy, the unused trails can be next to impossible - going up or down! I know there are plenty of different riders that go through KL because of the trail problems....HUGE locked rear skids, puddles that are 15 feet wide (don't want to get wet) are indicators of novices and or morons.

I don't like the place as much as gatineau, the two are about the same distance from me. I want to go with a local to show me a good circuit through KL where I won't have to turn around or put my bike on my back and mountain climb.

Customer Service

Same as what is being said - but I park at Goulburn parking lot
