Mono Centre - Trail, Orangeville, Ontario

Mono Centre - Trail, Orangeville, Ontario

DESCRIPTION

There is a map showing the main trails and once you are out on them there are plenty of side trails not shown. It's fun to start with the Southern Outlier loop which is up the hill to the right of the parking lot. Ride in the main access trail until you see a trail cut up to the right. Ride past it a bit and double back because you need a run at it. Ride the loop and when you meet another trail take it to the right and it will bring you back to the parking lot. From there head off into the park to enjoy the trails in the back. The access trails start at the bottom of the valley so there will be some big climbing to get to the sweet single track in the north east section of the park. It's the price you pay for so much joy. Explore and you'll find lots of fun riding.

I hadn't ridden there in a while, we used to ride there a lot, even did some night riding back in the day(10-15 years ago). I ride primarily around Barrie and Collingwood(with a couple of Hydro Cut adventures thrown in) and had a business reason to be in the Mono Area so I thought...let the good times roll. The riding was as good as I remember, maybe even better. Lots of rock, super fast down hills and tough little climbs. I mean it as a total compliment but this place is a poor mans 3 Stage. That said on a sunny Saturday afternoon it was busy with hikers, dog walkers and photographers. Probably best to go early in the morning or later in the evening for max speed and fun.

Customer Service

The upper loop is a great attack section, 10 minute climb and then nothing but push and attack on the last 3/5s of the loop, great for time trials or chase the leader.

Mono is one of the most fun rides in Southern Ontario. There is a huge mix of terrain. Lots of open fields with steep grades, tight singletrack through flesh-ripping Ironwod trees (watch out for these!!), one massive uphill climb/downhill free-for-all, and lots of side trails to explore. One of the really cool parts is rolling double-track through a mature hardwood forest. It can be 80 degrees in the field and only 60 in the forest!
The first time I rode this trail I got seriously lost following a side trail and ended up in a farmers field so be careful! Overall, not the most challenging trail but definitely worth the hour drive from Toronto.
Check out the tiny town of Mono Centre and have a beer or two at the only bar in town. The basement must date back to the 1800's.

This used to be a really rocking place, with some descents that could kill you if you are on top of your ride. Last I heard (from a ranger), they were planning on closing some of the trails to riders, so I would call before going up there.

Mono trails have been changed since last year. There are now user fees (which is fine) but they have labelled all trails and all of the good trails have been closed to Mtn Biking. Only trails open for biking are the wide ones (Good if you are pulling a Burley)

Don't even bother unpacking... all the best trails have been closed to mtb'ers. If you're into hiking, have fun, otherwise, head further north to Mansfield and have a real, uninhibited ride. This sucks.

Customer Service

Leave the bike in the truck and walk.

5 years ago, the only users at this place were mountain bikers. The trails rocked! You could fly down hills and over whoopty-doos at any speed you wanted. There used to be a vast expanse of trail to the west of the park. Now, there are no mountain bikes anywhere, the parking lots have all been closed in favour of their video-surveilanced one, and the remaining trails are chocked full of hikers. Basically, it's not worth going to anymore if you're looking for a great day of fast singletrack. Too bad, because if someone asked me in 97 what my all-time favourite trail system was, I would shout MONO CLIFFS, DUDE!!!

some sweet trails connects to some sweet single track that comes out in hockley valley which is also closed to bikes but who cares. Everybody just ride the trails.

Customer Service

Well they've sqrewed it over for the law abiding folk but for those of us who are willing to boot it away from authorities so that we can ride some sick trails they are still open. There are some trails still open to bikers some are even single track but all offer a scenic ride.

Sucks that they closed all the good trails to bikes but theres still some nice hiking trails. A couple of good summits to look out over. If you take the trail at the outdoor ed parking lot(upper lot), to EAST, turn right before a set of stairs. on a hill in that field you can see the CN tower on a clear day.

Customer Service

Start at the south parking lot, ride the trail past the picnic area and the lake with the little bench. Take the left trail to another lake with a little waterfall at the other side. Keep left and go up the hill. Follow that to the high parkinglot, make a left down the trail and then a right. Follow that back to the lower lot.

Well like other people have said, it used to be awsome. My friends and I used to spend whole days there, years ago, but now we don't really bother. All of the good trails have been killed and the rest are filled with rude hikers. The top loop is still awsome. Hope that log doesn't get taken out cause hikers are triping on it. My rating of two is only because of fond memories and the top loop.
