Steckle Woods - TRAIL

Steckle Woods - Trail, Kitchener, Ontario

Mostly wide single track, some double, some true single, dirt and roots under a shady tree canopy, rolling, somewhat twisty, easy going, close to 2 donut shops (!)good for a lunch time blast if you're working in the area. Look out for dog walkers at lunch time, can be used in conjunction with Huron Natural Area. No free ride stuff, despite funny sign that proclaims "KW Freeride", though some decent impromptu log rides.

I ride this trail daily its right beside where I live. Is mroe fitness oriented and if you go at the right time of day. 10-11am weekdays (i work from home so its possible) there will nobody around. To make it real interesting as said before circle inward and go at full tilt and things get a little more exciting. Its a work out trail not free ride. Find all the small singl track trails which are hidden and not taken care of. Also at the high backside if you look hard enough there is more to the forest then meets the eye!

Customer Service

Enter at Bleams parking lot. Lots of little entrances if you are just riding in.

Nifty jam for lunch if you can't make it to better trails, or to use when commuting by bike. Not a weekend network since it isn't tough enough, or technical enough, but what the hang, if you just want to rip round for half an hour or something midday, it fits the brief. Some nice turns, and the pace is fast, trees shady for hot days. Give it 2 star (cause it's no weekend riot) but in intended use is really a 5. Fitness, no stunts.

Customer Service

Start with large clockwise loops, then go to smaller and smaller loops, then out again to larger with some cut backs counterclockwise, some length-wise singletrack is hard to find, but worth while, look for it when you cut across the North-South singletrack (routes off to the West)and don't forget the grassland bits above the truck places.

Similar Products Used: Homer Watson (best all round), Hidden Valley (ok, but needs work), Chicopee (big hills), Dryden Tract (best after Homer Watson, but far to travel), Huron Natural Area (second best lunch time trails), Lackner (free ride close to home)
