Charlottenburg Mountain Bike Area - TRAIL

Charlottenburg Mountain Bike Area - Trail, Cornwall, Ontario

Very rocky and uneven. The land is situated on a gravel pit so there are rock's everywhere. It makes the riding a very upper body experience. The land is not real hilly, but the trails weave back and forth up and down the hills. There's a couple of downhill sections that are not real long, but are very bumpy because of the uneven ground. Several ladder bridges have been created to add some variety, and more will be added. The trails are a work in progress. The land area is 241 acres, and less than half has been developed. More trails will be added in the fall of 2002 and into the future. The forest area is like a jungle.

Other posters have described it well. Nothing too steep, but plenty of twists and turns, rocks and stunts to keep you working. Intermediate for sure but some gravel tracks for beginners too. Hoping to set up some regular rides and help organize some trail maintenance this summer (2009)... There is a great backbone of trails here that could use a little TLC. But come and check it out first, if you're a local rider you'll want to save this gem.

Dude! Four rides in four days...killer!

Do it fast...speed is your friend. You can't get lost, the trails are well marked with difficulty ratings and stuff and best of all, nobody rides there...it's all yours. Nice.

Rode it yesterday and it was dry. Lots of winter damage with a lot of the bridges and ramps being unridable. Lots of repair work required to get the junk back in shape. Most of the signage is pretty faded as well.

Good cardio work-out though as you work around the maze of trails. The rock garden area is also a lot of fun.....

Great trail system for people who want to do a little of everything. Theres XC trails, there's very tight trails, there's stunts like skinnies and teethers, 246 feet of rock plated trail called Barbwire, 4 to 6 foot drops. Mostly everything has been updated in 2007 and 2008 should be an even better year. Come check it out if you have a chance!

This area is brand new as of this writing (August '02), so things will change as more trails are developed and things get smoothed out. This area of Eastern Ontario (near Cornwall) has no area for mountain biking, so I requested the land to develop for mountain biking. I am an above average mountain biker, and I feel this trail is a real workout. Although there is not a lot of strenuous climbs, the rocks and obstacles make the trail much more challenging. A number of ladder bridges add to the fun, the largest at this time stretches some 45 feet. This is true singletrack, with branches and plants brushing at your feet and bars. You will need to use your upper body to navigate through the area, as the rocks, roots and logs are everywhere. The trails are situated next to a gravel pit so clearing all of the rocks is next to impossible. I cannot give this trail a stellar rating at this time because it is a work in progress, but it will develop into a terrific area to ride. As of now it is good and it challenges me. Give it a try.

this is a new ride area wich is still in develepoment and i believe with some help will expand in the coming year, but for now its pretty sweet considering we had nothing of its kind in this area that i know of.the trail i believe is suitable for beginners to advanced riders but make no mistake this trail is for real mtb bikers, if you are new to the sport it might be a rude or pleasant awakening ,all depends how your day goes, i guess! most of the trails are very technical with lots of short dipps and hills, the trail is single track, hard bottom with a bit loose dirt on top for the most part, with a good healty mix of roots, rocks more rocks, tree's,and a few ladder bridges and other man made obstacles. there is also some narrow catwalks that test your balance. there is also acouple of not bad descents that will make good use of your braking system.i recommend having a good bike, good lungs and somekind of suspension. defenitly worth a look if youre in need to get out there and challenge yourself, have fun!

Worth the ride out to Cornwall. A real XC play ground. Loads of singletrack, great built stunts, and fun all around.. I can't wait to ride it in the summer when the leaves are all back on the trees!

This is intermediate to expert XC. The Expert part would be all the stunts... the trail iself is not all that hard... intermediate for sure. You could also bring a beginner to ride. There is a good double-track which circles the trails... a little something for everyone!

If you want to see what the trails look like, here are some photos and video:

If you're looking to improve your xc skills, this the destination you've been praying for. I personally wouldn't describe this destination as intermediate. It's a liitle tougher than that. Especially if you decide to do the loop three or four times during the day. Then you begin to discover what words like endurance and challenge actually mean.

This place is well worth the trip. The trails here have actually been planned and thought through with the added bonus of some excellent bridges, A frames and teeters. More kilometers are hoped for next Spring, but for what it's worth, this is some of the best, funnest singletrack I've done in a long while.
