The Grange - TRAIL

The Grange - Trail, Alton, Ontario

Trail goes south and is easy. When you get to the road go west 1/2 k and continue s. Trail is much better here. I ride here and never see another bike or HIKER!!! This trail works its way to the Cateract Trail and then to Erin. It is a full day ride From Alton to Erin and back.

This trail has been cleared and improved for mtb recently, lots of overgrown brush cleared back and some original trail has been re-cut and cleaned up. Its beginner level, but you can do some serious racing around the loops, without slowing down much, which is incredible training. Not a lot of mtb trails you can do that on.

I ride this at fast pace most often to get the quickest most time efficient workout with the greatest results, while still providing an enjoyable mtb experience. Do as many loops as you wish in the time you have. It's a very scenic trail, and usually you might see small wildlife on the trail, but will hardly ever see another person, maybe the odd dogwalker (and usually the dog is off leash and will give you a good scare!). So you never really get bored from going in loops. It's a perfect night riding trail too!

Coming from Toronto:

Head north on hwy 10. Turn left at Charleston Side Rd 24, go all the way to Esso gas station (lights intersection). Turn right down 136 Main St, go all the way into Alton until you get to 4 way stop. Turn right (merge) at the 4 way stop, onto Queen St east, go down past gas station, continue down over small bridge, keep an eye out on your right hand side, the parking is along the side of that road, you'll see about 100 meters past the bridge there is a Alton Grange sign on your right and a little spot to park. Follow that trail in and you'll be good to go.

Similar Products Used: Behind the Millcroft Inn & Alton Mill there are some nice trails. Still fairly fast riding (just watch out for hikers) but a little shorter length then the grange.

There are well worn trails going everywhere off the main trial and you can have a great time exploring.

The route is easy up to hyw24 and becomes harder until you get to the Cateract. From there on it is dead tracks to Erin. Turn around at 24 and go back, you will have a good ride.

I have a friend that lives in Alton and we ride the trail though the week to stay ready for the weekend. There are trails behind the Millcroft Inn that have a pretty awsome final hill that you drop down(the pinnical). We also ride the trail at the end of Station Rd. You can ride the hard packed forest trail there in a half hour at a fast pase. There is a great spot to stop and grab a drink at a free flowing sping. The trail that continues south to #24 is difucuult due to 4 wheel dr quads. The Grange trail can be riden by anyone, to ride the pinnical you need some experiance and legs.

Customer Service

The directions given are easy to follow.
