Barney's River Ride - TRAIL

Barney's River Ride - Trail, Antigonish/New Glasgow, Nova Scotia

FAST FAST FAST and FAST! Seriously, a good quick ride with lots of varied terrain. Some climbs to suck the life out of the full suspension people. Some serious down hills to watch them blow by you and enough technical spots to make you wish you practiced those skills more. But basically FAST ! I'd say it was DOUBLE TRACK and Fire Road type of trail. It's not as long as it sounds. Two or three hours, depending upon the riders.

Lots of fast double track to make a big ride out of. Lots of babyheads so full suspension might be worth it. I did it on my rigid bike once and had sore shoulders for a week. The most spectacular obstacles are a couple of steep loose climbs, and the wicked descent at the very end. You'd better have good brake control.

There is a limited amount of really tough technical sections, so a beginner should be able to handle the terrain. You can also cut out loops to make the ride shorter. There are a couple of DEEP water crossings. Wear full-fingered gloves and watch for branches whipping your arms.

Lot's of fast trail. Small % of ride is fireroad climbs btw trailheads. A fun 2-3hr ride, Not much air, but plenty of rolling trail , & railed corners . Mostly middle ring trail, Two serious granny climbs, tehnical and steep. No drop-ins.No rookies suggested 'they'll cry .
