This is NOT a mountain bike trail, you'd be carrying your bike for over half of it. It is a fairly difficult hiking trail, boggy areas (corduroy sp?), lots of climbs and decents, beaver dam crossings, etc. etc.

The Caribou Lake campsite mentioned above is located a day hike from the SOUTH trailhead located east of Caddy Lake. I would also recomend the Caribou Lake campsite to novice backpackers.

The whole trail is amazing, I would recommend it to anyone experienced in the backcountry, I've done it 5 times and have enjoyed it every time.

and do yourself a favour and buy the map from "Canada map sales" it's well worth the $9

Trail is in Whiteshell Prov. Park.

Trailheads: east of Caddy Lake, North-West corner of Big Whiteshell Lake.

I personally like to hike it south to north.

Caribou Lake is a good camp site. Mostly small peninsulas. Good for beginners as it's a short hike and an out house was added last year (1999).

Trail was different this year. Parks & Rec advisory said "wet but passible". It was passible... if you consider hiking in chest deep water with your packs over your heads passible. still fun though.

Entrance advises that the trail is only for advanced hikers but we always see families doing day hikes on it and I didn't find it that challenging even with the packs. it is long though but most people only hike to the first or second site and then hike back.

Canoe route is also available.
