This trail is usually one of the first to open every year. Located on the south end of the valley, the Train Wreck winds through some relatively technical terrain. This unique ride is suitable for intermediate to expert riders. The element that makes this ride so unique is the actual wreck. In the 60's a Canadian Pacific Freight train derailed just before entering the town of Whistler. The trail was built around the reminants of the wreck. There are 6 cars still standing today. Every time I ride this trail the hair on my back rises a little because you never know if theres a bear living in one of the 6 rolled cars. Expert riders will finish this trail and be back in Whistler in 1 hour. Intermediate riders around 1.5-3 hours. A map or guide is recommended.

Nice trail - a bit short if you're looking for an 'epic', but solid nonetheless. When wet, the moss and roots are deadly - no turning or steering abilities. However, overall, the system is sweet, with nice up's and down's, and a killer "natural" rhythm section out of rock. As far as scenery goes, sure, the train cars are cool, but the spec points of the Cheakamus river are totally Zen like....most awesome indeed. A nice "warmer upper" if you will, and do-able by most riders. If you're visiting, bring a camera, as the view points are fab.....

Customer Service

Same as everyone else.....hit Cheakamus trails parking area, and ride down the hwy.

Cedar Springs Lodge   [Oct 05, 2002]

There has been recent work done on this trail with some great bridges, ramps and generally easier to ride. When you get to the end, you can continue along the railroad tracks about 200 m and pick up another trail on the right hand side, follow this almost all the way to the highway and then turn left into a narrow single track on your left. This is a really fun single track, somewhat technical with some minor up and downhill. This single track intesects with the Brandywine trail, turn left when you get there, and follow Brandywine trail through to the suspension bridge, over the bridge, through the Cal-Cheak campground (really fun new section along the river), out to the road and turn left and then first single track on your right (about 50 m). Follow trail all the way to the dump (almost all logging road) and then out to function junction. Total ride is about 2 1/2 hours (about 18km). Good variety, awesome scenery with a little bit of everything!
