Rose Valley Dam - TRAIL

Rose Valley Dam - Trail, Westbank, British Columbia

A Cross-country loop with good cardio climbs to the summit at the South end of the lake, a fast descent to the lake and x-country rolling single track counter-clockwise around the lake. Cool downhill switchback section near the end of the ride. The trails at the south end of the area are a combination of dirt bike, hiking, horse and mountain bike. Go with someone who knows the route or bring a map from the local bike shops. The trail comes fairly close to the lake in some spots and a few locals have found themselves unintentionally fully submerged in the middle of a ride. When you get to the North end of the lake, there''s a marsh so you have to ride out on a gravel road to the main road, hang a left and watch for the trail to take off immediately to the left into the trees. This will take you down the West side of the lake. There are several forks but if you keep to the right on the first few you''ll avoid the marshy areas and all the trails at this end eventually merge into one trail along West side of the lake. Eventually you come to a cool downhill switcback section that spits you out onto an access road for the damn. Head down this road to the red metal gate and take the trail on your left back around the south end of the lake and back to the school.

cross country loop around the Rose Valley Lake with nice climb to to the summit at the south end of the lake. great views of the lake and Kelowna if you go to the very top spur of the trail. Quick downhill to the lake and then it's rolling, semi-technical singletrack for most of the way around the lake. Don't fall in, it gets pretty close sometimes. For some reason, every time I ride this trail it seems like the uphill is disproportionally longer than the downhill rewards. Great views though, with good wildlife sighting possibilities (spotted a black bear last summer)and... I've never run into another rider on this trail while we're riding.

School playground, left to south end, right turn up a road to summit. Watch for single track to the left, it's probably marked with a piece of colored survey tape. Another cool way to start this trail is to ride up to the end of the road that turns left just past the school. From here you pop onto the trail system to your left, head up a short steep climb and fly down to the school. There's a few stunts built in this section above the school.
