A short, steep fireroad climb to the Canadian Coast Guard radar base. Absolutely astounding view. A good mixture of loose rocky descents, fast smooth singletrack and challenging drop-ins. If you feel particularly fit, start climbing Neil Rd. from its base on Happy Valley Rd. It is a very steep. steady, smooth paved grade that really makes you work for the singletrack descent.

Customer Service

West of Victoria, onto Sooke Rd., turn left onto Happy Valley Rd., right onto Neil Rd, all the way to the top of this very steep paved road. Where the road ends take the fireroad on the left, through the gate.

This ride can be what ever you make of it. The trails over the slick rock are not particularly challenging, but you can always find obstacles and rock drops at the side of every trail. Ride here on a sunny, dry day so you can make the most of the views and the traction offered by the rock itself. This ride is a refreshing break from Millstream or Hartland.

Customer Service

Take Nield rd. as high as you can, then take the short climb up the fire road after the metal gate and you will arrive at the Mt. Helmcken Coastgaurd radar tower (The view is amazing). Then just look for some singletrack and explore. I like to find trails that connect all of the bluffs that overlook the sooke hills and the sooke basin.

This place is the sh*t lots of chutes, rock faces and drops. This place is now my favorite place to ride the dump is getting to busy and developed.the most crazy thing is called the death face to hard to clean. but every thing there is crazy there last time I went ther were a couple of riders building bridges. and laters. So this place has a future.

Rode there for the first time, sick. You can just go, there are offshoots all over the place, nice drops, rocks, logs, everything. I am definitely going back, often. Next time I won't ride out there and up that freakin climb though. See ya

I do not know where thes other reviewers rode but they are definetly not talking about Niel rd. My freinds and I rode their a few times this year and explored most of the trail systems their and found to our dismay that reviews for this area were grossly overstated. there are some allright nosedown drops and a couple of decent launches and wheeliedrops but nothing exceptional. All and all the trails are short and rather kind of disappointing. I must agree with the review Daryl gave for he is pretty much spot on in his review. If you are looking for sick terrain and stunts try the dump and the hidden areas of Thetis lake
park. The trails at Neil rd. are for people who like cross country riding, nice views and who are looking to experiencing begginner to medium level freeriding.Beginner to medium technical trails are found here.

good riding, quiet and sometimes challenging... from the heli-pad on the top, check out the cliffs and the scenery and then launch thyself down the rock face. Nice.
