The Fred Trail - Trail, Penticton, British Columbia

The Fred Trail - Trail, Penticton, British Columbia

DESCRIPTION

Lots of climbing, technical singletrack, through preserved forests of huge Ponderosa pines, stunning scenery of Okanagan lake, nasty technical sections over rock and through heavily treed sections. On Crown land, with a private lease. Don't even dream of screwing it up by littering. Leave it better than you found it.

Last time I rode this trail was the best. It was in great shape, not too dry, not too wet, not too messed up by cattle. Perfect riding. An Okanagan classic! Great uphill cardio warm-up followed by a seriously rewarding technical and fast downhill through big ponderosa pines and open rocky plateaus. Lake views are very distracting, keep your eyes on the trail if possible.

Customer Service

The Bike Barn in Penticton has a great map of the Three Blind Mice trail network which you can photocopy. It is the best resource for trying to figure out this confusing array of trails. Once you've ridden the area a few times it starts to make sense. The route up Riddle Road is still the overall best way to get to the top of 'Fred', taking advantage of buffed trails and straightforward doubletrack. There are alternate approaches, but are in the category of 'secret' trails if you aren't familiar with the area. Ask in the bike shops and try to get the above mentioned map. This is a destination area, without a doubt.

This is truly a marvel of stunning preserved beauty. Hard to believe that this forest hasn't been raped and pillaged. Tons of climbing, lots of technical singletrack. A good test of your suspension and your lungs.
