Spooner Creek - Trail, Christina Lake, British Columbia

Spooner Creek - Trail, Christina Lake, British Columbia

DESCRIPTION

Technical single track/downhill with some good drops, an awesome log ride and a fast and steep bottom section. Some side trails into really nawrley steep chutes and rooty technical steep stuff. One of the best trails around!! Ask Dap or Little Chuk at Wildways for the tour!!

Finally found the time to ride this trail. Excellent! Had to avoid the wooden structures due to all the rain making them scary slick. Too bad! Many look totally rideable for a chicken sh*t like me. Even without the stunts, this trail is really good and not ridiculously steep and scary. Well-built with excellent flow and just long enough to make the pedal up worth it. I'll be back!

I did it as a loop from Christina Lake. Pedal up the Stewart Creek FSR for 9 km to the obvious trailhead on the right. There is a sign and rock cairn to mark the start which is right off the road. The ride up isn't too bad and I did it on a day when the temp was touching 30 degrees. Trail starts as a moderate, well-graded ride with lots of wild installs to sample or ride around as you choose. No need to ever dismount and carry over the structures, which is nice. A few challenging steep sections follow with lots of great flow with switchbacks, narrow bits and plenty of good views. Trail ends all too quickly at the paved Westlake Drive. Turn right to return to Christina Lake.

There are several trails which start off of Stewart Creek FSR. Westlake/TNT is a great intermediate. Boris and Wheelchair are meant to be steeper downhill rides with tons of fun stuff. Deer Point is a great cross-country pedal along Christina Lake to the far end, and is an out and back. Dewdney is good and I've heard of a ridge ride called the Christina Crest trail which is meant to be very good as a longer trip. Rossland is close, Grand Forks has good trails and even Midway has a great little network. Definitely a destination area.
