A'cha is one of the "classic" Seoul trails, and rightly so. Mountains in Korea are kind of short, but really steep and full of rocks, and A'cha is the paragon of this kind of riding. Tons of techno rock bashing on out of control steeps. One of the more interresting aspects of this one are the big sections of open face rock. Patches up to several hundred square metres in size. Kind of like mini-Moabs, but on a 45-degree slope. There was one that I got about half-way down, stopped to check my line, and it was like I was on the roof of a house. Reach-out-and-touch-the-trail-without-bending-down type stuff. Don't come here looking for the all day lost in the woods ride. This is an anaerobic adrenaline rush trail. Another five star winner.

Very, technical! Lots of little trails that will test your endurance getting up to it. A bit of hike- a bike, but worth it if your into the 3 and four foot drop in kind of thing. Lots of hikers on weekends. They will clear the path for you most always. Rode it about 3 years ago every few weeks and always loved it, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking for the "typical" mountain bike trail. It will test your bike handling skills like never before. Really.

Achesan is a little 'out there' for most riders. Only very competent riders can ride the whole thing but it's damn fun trying. And intermediate to advanced riders can still ride 80-90% of most of the mountains downhills with the exception of the 'yikes' descent. A classis technical rocky downhill that has tested the boys skills every time we run it. Usually it wins, occasionally we do.

Achesan has several great trails and we recently discovered Spankinator ('Spanki') for short. lots of granite, 1-3 foot drop-offs, pretty rough and rocky and great to take on at speed with some decent suspension on your rig. All up i'd rate the mountain pretty high except too many hikers on saturday afternoons and Sundays and there's a 10-15 minute climb at one point with bike on shoulder. The climb is well worth it though for the trials beyond.

The hikers are great though. happy to get out of your way as long as you yell out to them before you get to them.

Seoul is pretty damn sexy for mountainbiking. Unbelievable though it may sound. A huge array of trails spread around the city all within relatively easy bike commute. One particualr area that we've discovered, mapped and named is the Namhan Sansong area. Over 45 km's of all kinds of singletrack downhill trail. Steep, fast, technical, smooth, cambered banked corners, switchbacks, deep in the bush, drop-offs, you want it it's probably there for you.
