Kangchon Challenger - TRAIL

Kangchon Challenger - Trail, Kangwondo, Chunchon, Asia And Pacific

The Challenger is probably the most popular course in Korea and the biggest XC competition is held there every year. It consists of 3 mountains adding up to 30 miles, including a 6 mile paved road ride. The whole trail is wide with dirt and gravel on the first mountain, steep and rocky but a pretty short second and a long third with hard packed dirt, excellent for fast downhill rides. It's not that hard and even beginners can ride out the whole course. It's more a matter of stamina than technical skills and definitely worth the ride cuz of the fresh air and scenic routes. :)

Stiff   Downhiller [Jan 25, 2004]

I did this race back in the day as well as a couple DH races in the area later. The Gancheon challenger isn't worth it, unless you're really really into fireroads -- which doesn't rank in my book. I give it one flaming hunk of kimchi for this reason.

Similar Products Used: None, but they are there. You just have to explore because no one has documented the Chuncheon area which has some of Korea's most beautiful mountains. In Seoul, visit Namhan Sanseong (Honeybee Trail, perhaps the favorite real singletrack in Korea) or Acha Mtn. East of Chuncheon, try the two-day Baekdu Daegan alpine ridge ride (starts at a town called Winggae). MTB Korea (my site): www.angelfire.com/ga/achamtb
