Tiptop Icecandy Tamawan Shilan Trail - TRAIL

Tiptop Icecandy Tamawan Shilan Trail - Trail, Baguio City, Philippines, Asia And Pacific

Some very fast, rough and technical sections, especially downhills. Some short concrete portions. Great view all the way to the end of the ride. Steep climb from Wright Park circle. Tamawan has a good flat hill overlooking both Baguio City and the Trinidad Valley, great for taking pictures. Upon reaching Shilan, there is a short but very steep 45 degree climb, after which comes rolling terrain. This ride will really test one's climbing ability.

Start off as early as possible. This is a good trail for those who would not want to exhale most of the smog coming from the vehicles, since Baguio is already congested with Car's from Visitors and mostly from Manila on a weekend. The start of ascend would be from Pacdal circle, making your way up to Ambuklao Road, this is now Tip Top area. Once you have conquered this paved peak (near full moon party place), you will have a a smooth roll going to Beckel-La Trinidad Junction. Take the left turn of the smooth road, but a little climb up will start the dirt and bumpy road. Everything should be the dirt road to the left, but once you have reached a junction with a cemented road (this is Lubas)to the left, its decision time: If you take the left paved road, you will have a short, muddy and quick downhill ride (you'll end up packing mud on your tires if it was after a rainy day yesterday) of which your exit is KM4 of Trinidad (Passing by Pines Park and bridge). If you take the right dirt road, you will have a long and enjoyable loose soil and rocky road, but longer way, ending up exiting Halsema highway (approximately near Camp Dangwa). From KM4, continue the through the highway to your right to the Benguet Capitol Building and connect the road to the left going to Buyagan. A junction road at Buyagan to your right. Make your way to the top of the BSU conservation area, this is a good trail and shortcut to LongLong Road. There is another junction at longlong, take the left paved road going to Tamawan village, if you continue the road and not turn left, this will take you a 200 meters descend to Lamtang, and you will end up, ascending that same elevation for 6-7KM reaching Cooyesan along Naguilian Road. On the other trail, if you end up exiting Halsema Highway, take the left turn going back to Trinidad. This is all paved road. Upon reaching the Capitol Building, do continue the road at the right, and follow the directions with regards to the trail in Buyagan. As per GPS record, the total distance is approximately 25 to 26 KM.

Customer Service

1) Take the Pacdal-Beckel route if you wanted an easier uphill climb and an exciting downhill plunge. 2) Take the KM4-Pines park reverse route if you want to test you lung capacity and the almost 50 degree long climb both paved on the first leg and muddy on the second leg. 3) Take the Halsema junction to Lubas trail reverse route if you wanted a gradual loose and rocky uphill climb but and still enjoy the downhill plung from Lubas to KM4 exit.

A trail for the average biker. It has one of everything--fast fireroads, rolling singletrack and some wicked rock gardens that will loosen the fillings in your teeth. Try wearing shin pads--not just to protect against spills but also against the sick-looking dogs that have been known to chase riders in some portions.

Customer Service

Took the same route as posted on mtbr. relatively easy to find until you hit a couple of forks midway through the trail. it's better to have a local rider with you to be safe.

Similar Products Used: Long-long trail. Upon exiting in La Trinidad Valley, take the road at the bottom of the provincial capitol. Take the uphill road in front of the Cordillera College and follow this til it reaches a fire road. Excellent doubletracks and singletracks all the way to the city.
