Malabar Head and La Perouse - Trail, Sydney, Australia

Malabar Head and La Perouse - Trail, Sydney, Australia

DESCRIPTION

Scoot around anywhere on the Rifle Range, avoiding the gun-happy fools and any horseriders, heading to a trail in the south-west (stinky) corner. Either head up the hill or take off on a trail that leads down to another (asphalt) trail which will take you out to the headland. A good ride is to turn around and go back down to Malabar Beach then on to La Perouse and the national park there. Some OK trails but pretty lame over all. Would be great if it wasn't so sandy. What else is there in the area???!!!

This headland has EVERYTHING to learn, practice and refine your MTB skills. At the very southern end is some rocky areas for trail riding or practicing negotiating rocky trails. At the eastern end, past the rifle range are some nice fire trail rides, with a neat little XC + DH bit onto the bitumen road. All through the headland you'll find interesting features to ride. Gun emplacements, dirt tracks and old WWII stuff.

Ride up Fishermans Road, go past the Sewerage Treatment Works, through the fence and cycle up the bitumen road. When you get to a T-junction, go left. There is a small clearing in some bushes about 50m on your right, go through that and you'll find an abandoned railway used in WWII for moving shells. It's all concrete and takes you past some really interesting structures. You reach the end when you hit the "bat-cave" (It's just a big Y-junction tunnel that links up 2 gun emplacements. Once you've finished exploring that, turn around and pedal like mad back down the railway, when you get to the start of the railway (which is sandy) quickly pull right then left and you'll see a small trail through the scrub formed from water moving through undergrowth. Fly down that at break-neck speed until you hit the bitumen road again. Keep powering down that but pull left before the car-park and go down a steep ramp which will pop you off the gutter at the bottom. You have now completed the ride.

I have too much fun on the headland to go exploring elsewhere, but I know the La Perouse headland could do with some more riding.

The best terain is not on the headland but on the hill at the other end of the range (on the right when u go through the fence). there are a number of little trails that go down that hill(on the south side). there are some sandstone drop offs and junk that can be used to make jumps etc.

A park in south randwick near the high school has a few drops (4-8ft) and sandstone for trials stuff

avoid the beach because of rangers that will tell you to leave the park and fine you 500 bucks for biking on walking trails.

Customer Service

Stay on the dirt tracks and don't go near the golf coarse/driving range coz u might get hit by the balls as my friend did.
