Bracken Lane - Trail, Hobart, Australia

Bracken Lane - Trail, Hobart, Australia

DESCRIPTION

The trail is quite fast and has an open dusty surface in the dry. Can have a bit of loose rock and exposed tree roots to watch for. Head into the trail and when you come to the fork, take the left trail. Head along the flat section until you reach the end of the trail at a T section, hang a right. This is where the fun starts. This downhill is very quick, but in order to make it slightly technical, the council have cut out drainage sections in the trail -- do not underestimate the depth of these during the winter when it is wet. The entry into these gutters will compress your front suspension if you hit it hard enough and this will give you an exciting exit. There must be about 8 of these ditches and then can be tough to pick in low sun. The final ditch is followed by a tight little creek crossing to the left. Head to boom gate and try riding down the section to the left of the gate instead of dismounting. Once you have done this section you will be on Strickland Ave. Cross the road and try the second section which will take you to either Strickland or Huon road depending on your turnoff point. Especially good in the wet!

To ride Bracken Lane F/T go S.O. instead of taking the left fork, then S.O. again through a X-roads. Follow the F/T down hill for about 500m before reaching a barrier, ride around this & you are now in Curtis Ave. T.L. at the sealed road (Fingerpost Tk) and finish at Huon Rd. The downhill with the drains is the beginning of the Rivulet Tk, which continues after crossing Strickland Ave - all the way Molle Street if you want - although past the Cascade Brewery it becomes rather tame.

Heard a viscious rumor that this trail is to be "removed" by the local council. I don't think it is because of legallity issues but more likely some bad in fighting witrhin some of the mtb groups down here
