Mt Stromlo forest - TRAIL

Mt Stromlo forest - Trail, Canberra, Australia

The climb to the top is mainly on fire trails with some short steep climbs, nothing to hard though, once at the top you have a 360 degree view of the Canberra Area. Plus you can see the obeservatory. Head along the fire trail, which will go up one last short incline. This is where the fun begins. Head straight down the other side but be carefull. The road is concaved with lots of 'marble' ballberings. This is a fast steep pitch with a fence going right across the trail. STOP, jump the fence(with your bike)and 50 meters to the left is a wicked downhil trail. This trail is single track with lots of lefts and rights, which are all off camber. Most of the riding here is on fire trails although great single trail if you know to go. Too many trail to tell you about anyway, better fun exploring. Draiy farmers is another good part of stromlo forest.

Canberra is spoilt for choice. Sparrow, Majura, Kowen forest etc. These are all awesome tracks, but the new Stromlo MTB 'complex' is truly epic.

A world-class DH track, three grades of XC trails, a mountain cross track...the place is amazing.

Garn. Check it out.

The trails are the best in canberra the 4x track rips and the downhill course is world class. It had to be good because Glen Jacbos designed the trail network. There is a strong chance that canberra and Mt Stromlo will get the 2009 uci mountain bike and trials world cup.

The Stromlo forest is good riding if you want to do lots of cross country riding or want to rack up some miles to keep fit. Heap of trails and some good single traij if you know where your going. Best to get someone who knows the area to show you where the good spots are. Mostly the terrain isn't very challengeing. Although some of the hills are a lot of fun on the single trail stuff.

Customer Service

As was stated.

Not a good place if you enjoy MTB's, rather rubbish actually, I raced this site in 1990 at the Australian championships, and will never go back there. If you enjoy a boring lifestyle and have nothing else to do, go to Stromlo, it is dumb.

There is a heap of single track and just a few minutes riding in any direction will put you onto some. As for Knunky or whatever he call's himself's review.....1990? You might as well say 1910! The trail elves have been incredibly busy in the last few years and the place is littered with fairly easy but nice flowing singletrack and it goes for miles and miles. I've given it 3 stars but it's probably closer to 4 when I look at the stuff the majority of you ride on!!!

I love all the trails around this area. There are heaps of new singletrack that goes all over the forest making for something different every ride. Nice switchbacks, great singletrack and some good jumps in places.

Customer Service

We start from the Scrivener Dam carpark. Cross the dam wall and turn first left then on for heaps!

Similar Products Used: Mt Majura and Isaacs Ridge are pretty close and offer some great trails for all skill levels. Canberra has soo many great trails all over and close to the city. Heaps better than Sydney. Paragliding is even better, try it! Learn to fly in Canberra with the Australian Paragliding Centre.
