Hanging Rock - TRAIL

Hanging Rock - Trail, Blackheath, NSW, Australia

Follow this dirt road away from highway past old rubbish tip and right to the end until you get to a parking type area . It then goes straight ahead into single track for maybe 200m until you reach the awesome view. leave bikes at top of cliff and follow walking track down hill to the left for approx. 200m until you see hanging rock (you will know it when you see it !!). Trail is very fast easy ride consisting of lots of waterbars, just go as hard as you can. It only takes approximately 20 minutes to get from highway to the rock if you go hard, slightly longer on way back but still very easy riding . Overall this is a very fun easy ride with awesome views at the end, if you are game to get on to the rock just be careful as there is a slight gap you need to jump across, with danger all around!!!

This is a relatively smooth track with a spectacular vista waiting at the end - you need to haul your bike for a few meters to get to the lookout but such is life. The lookout is parallel to Anvil Rock and Perry's Look Down from Hat Hill Road. However, with Ridgewell Road, there is virtually no motor vehicle traffic i.e. no corrugations, no pot holes, no bull dust from passing cars etc. Plenty of side tracks also. Highly recommended for beginners as it is smooth and effortless with small peaks and troughs that make it fun.

Great short ride, easy, good for newbys, some moderate downhills (often w nice waterbars), and obviously some uphills as well. Once you hit the car park you can ride to the lookout on top (its not fenced, so dont play too hard up here, its a couple hundred metre fall).
For some spice you can take the trail to the east (when youre back outside the national park) marked as a "fire trail", this is a NICE gully crossing (its actually the head waters of Hat Hill canyon) with some funky corners for the downhill and quite a grind getting out. You'll pass Blackheath Sewer plant (thats why nobody does hat Hill canyon anymore) and come out at Hat Hill rd. From here turn left for a flattish ride on good tracks out to perrys lookdown, anvil rock (mmmmmm, anvil rock mmmmmm) etc or right and youre back in Blackheath for a cappucino

Park just off the Great Western Hwy on Ridgewell Rd unload the bike and head north. Or catch the train to Blackheath and head West from the station (away from Blackheath shops) until you hit Ridgewell - go play.

Similar Products Used: Some nice trails in the Sydney water catchment protection area (but of course you cant ride there!), Mt Vic of course, all the great downhills off Mt York, the best rides in the Blueies if you ask me (5, all of them(I also live there), narrow neck always cranks (5) at Katoomba, and then there are all those tracks and trails in Clarence State Forest miles and miles and fuckin miles of em! Just watch out for the rabid trail bikers
