Directions to Trailhead: |
A few miles up Millcreek Canyon to the Church Fork Picnic Area. |
Trail Description: |
Park and ride up through Church Fork Picnic Area. At the top of the picnic area an old dirt road takes off and climbs a couple of hundred yards before crossing over the Millcreek Pipeline Trail (a great ride with too many damn people and dogs on it). Once you cross over the Pipline trail it turns to single track. The trail follows the stream up the canyon for 3/4 of a mile or so before busting out into several switchbacks. Eventually you will come to the lower overlook of Parleys Canyon and north Salt Lake. If you continue on you will end up right on the peak with a great view of the whole Salt Lake Valley (assuming you can see it through all the smog). This trail is very advanced mostly because it is steep, but it also has some technical sections. There are two sections that are unrideable. There is a set of stairs about a half mile into the ride, and one of the upper switchbacks cuts through a rock slide. Other than these two cases, if you have good strong legs you can ride the whole thing. This trail is seldomly used by bikes but it does receive a lot of hikers. Please be courteous and yield to them so they don't shut it down to bikers. You can also combine this ride with the Pipeline if you dont want to drive in the canyon. |

Recommended Route: For a good workout, ride up Rattlesnake Gulch to the Pipeline Trail. Overall, it's about 6 miles with a 3000 foot vertical gain. If you ride at a good pace, you can complete the ride in two hours.
