Trail Description:

Lots of red slickrock and desert singletrack, but the ride is short overall. The basic loop is a little hard to follow in the beginning (the blazes are fading), but you're close to I-15 the whole way, so you won't get lost. The slickrock is a blast.

6 miles

The road section was boring. Riding through the tube under I-15 was pretty cool. The balance of the ride is just plain fun!

I was told by a local that there is a way to access this trail from the north. If anyone has details please provide. The usual south access, as described in previous reviews, has become a bit inconvenient due to the "no trespassing" posting.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Green Valley Loop, Stucki Springs, Gooseberry Mesa, Little Creek Mesa (get a local guide), and JEM Loop (dangerous for novices and crazy teenagers)

Review:

This is a good trail. It is a fun mixture of slickrock and desert singletrack requiring intermediate skill, except for one very short, advanced downhill. (Well, it's downhill if you're riding the trail clockwise) The trail is about six miles long, but seems shorter because you're able to keep a pretty good speed through most of it. I'd recommend this trail to intermediate riders who've ridden the area's great rides (see "other trails") many times and need a short filler ride.

Drive through Washington Ut. on old U.S. 91. Approx. a mile and a half after the Self storage lot you will come to the top of a rise. On your left you will see a dirt road with a cattle gaurd and a chain painted bright orange. Park here and ride the road north approx. one mile. Don't worry about the No Trespassing Sign, it's there for cars not bicycles. You will come to a fork in the road. Go left and down a steep jeep road. If you come to a water tank you went the wrong way. If you took the correct fork you should end up right under the freeway. Follow the trail from here into a drainage tube. You will come out on the North West side of I-15. The ride starts here.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Green Valley Loop, GEM, Twin Peaks, Red Hills Desert Reserve, Stucki Springs, Goose Berry, All of the NORBA race corses.

Review:

Once you are on the North West side of I-15 the trail is obvious. Stay on the slick rock and head North. As you travel North you should have I-15 to your right. After a few miles the trail leaves the slick rock and continues North on dirt single track. This is where it gets fun. Big ring stuff for about six miles. You will ride all the way to the Red Cliffs Recreational Park. Once you get there I suggest turning around and riding backwards to the trail head. If it's hot take the road to Quail Lake and go for a swim. Follow the road back to old U.S. 91 and find your car. Anyone can ride this trail. Most of the hills are not steep. I stayed in the big ring on all but three or four climbs. The slick rock in fairly easy on the main trail.

We went to the beginning of the dirt road and found a no tresspassing sign so we decided to take a different route. We drove up the freeway, I15, coming out of Washington and about a mile before the Hurricane, Zion National Park turnoff, there is a watertank up on the hill. There is a nice pulloff here. You should be right under the water tank, looking up at a lave cliff that is made up of columner jointed lava. You have to cary or walk your bike down into the wash and ride under the freeway in a large culvert. Nice echo in here. You are heading North and you have to go about 100 or 200 meeters up the wash untill there is redrock off to the right. There is a trail off to the right. If you can just get up on top you will find the trail. The real trail goes off to the left, climbs some god forsaken lava rocky crap and then drops back down in the wash about 100 meeters on up. Someone needs to find a better route and mark it good. If you just go up the wash and keep looking off to the right for the trail. The trail climbs up the ridge and goes up to the top of the sandstone outcropping you are seeing.

GEM Loop, Goosberry, La Verkin Twist, Little Creek Mesa,

Review:

Once your up on top of the first set of red sandstone rocks then the loop begins. You ride east for quite a while, you are paralleling the freeway and towards the end you are almost perpendicular with the Hurricane Exit on the freeway, you then drop off the top and loop back. The trail is great and a lot of fun. There is a lot of area here to ride and just explore. It appears that a trail continues on to the East that we didn't have time to take. There are also trails off to the West that look fun. Next time!

Go to Telegraph road and follow it north towards Hurricane until you come to the top of the Mesa directly out of Washington, turn left at the Cattleguard and drive to the water tower. Park and descend down the trail through the tunnel that go's under I-15 and ride the loop clockwise.

Review:

This trail has limited Kickers but if you are from the state you will enjoy the thrills that this has to offer. Don't rely on Tubeless Tires to not give you a flat because this trail eats all different compounds of rubber so better watch out.
