Utah

moab

Directions to Trailhead:

go to a bike shop in town: Buy a trail map, use theirs, or ask for directions...it is a bit out of the way into the desert...

Trail Description:

This trail could possibly be the best place I rode in Moab. I guess its not slickrock, like the slickrock found at SLICKROCK TRAIL, but its stone. This red tinted rock formation is huge...there is a great bike climb at the start. there is no white line to follow and no one was there...there were two pretty mad half pipes and two sides that just flowed...i mean it was just like a wavy section on the one side that made it seem like you were surfing...i absolutely loved this ride...it's all good

Trail Length:

??? as many miles as you want

Don't be a complete moron like me and try to find this place w/o either a guide, someone local who knows where it is, or a map w/detailed directions... I rode from the parking area just off 191, must've went way past the turn off point for this place... I ended up in some enclosed canyon that was @ 10 miles from my car. There were a few camping spots, after a while the trail dropped down into a big valley, and there was a $hitload of sand, everywhere. It sucked! The only reason i put this review here is to hopefully help people avoid making the same mistake i did. Doing this helps me feel like less of a jaggoff... In my defense, there's no painted arrows, trail maps, markers, signs, or anything out here at all to let you know where the hell you're going. Just some dirt roads, and a ton o sand. That's no excuse, tho!!! When i got back to my car, and picked up Lee Bridgers Moab guide, i found out exactly where i didn't turn off.

From what i've heard, this place is pretty dope, so i'll give it 4 tires.

This trail is like a freeriding dream cause it is like cliff and steep world. I accidently went off a 7 footer and actually landed it. There are also some really great lines if you hike to the top and go all the way to the bottom.

Big upside down shape bowl type of orange/red rock with ledges/mini cliffs that will kill you if you fall or really injure you if your lucky rather than a trail. Wave riding in some areas, long bands of rock you just flow over. Drop offs and ledges to jump down or plow up and over, you decide. Steep pitches to mild climbs. A good time. No real trail, just open place to ride and have fun. If you have any skills which I assume you do if your in this area you can ride and have a blast.

Like the other reviews, the whole area is the sidehill of a mesa. Once you get up the first hike-a-bike onto the rock, you can do what you please. I lost the trail after the second sand section (I hate sand). I wound up down in the half-pipe bowl area, but did see some people at the very top, so there obviously a way up there. Not a lot of epic miles, just a good place to play.

Not so much a trail, It is a place to freeride your brains out. Bowls and drops abound. As well as kill you climbs that you better make. As for the climb at the parking area, the first one, forget it, go to the right and push your rig up. We were there for 4 hours in the howling wind and only rode about 9 miles out and back. There is just to much to do out there.Anyone can play here just be sure of whats in front of you.

The views are great. This was the first place I rode on our trip to Moab and Colorado. It is just a play ground with plenty of ledges to drop and lines to carve. Out and back it was about 6 miles. Watch out for the small amount of sharp plants. One speared my buddies tubeless tires. OOPS! After the sand section there is a fun area that is almost a natural half pipe. I would love to come here with someone that was a little more familiar with the terrain. I am sure there are some really fun lines that I missed.

Not technical, not tuff -- this place is all about one word: FUN! Bowls, up/down, left/right...take your pick, cuz it's all yours! You can spend several hours here. This is a true MTB'ers playground. The slickrock provides traction you won't believe. The views are awesome! Another "must do" for Moab visitors.

Moab is full of great trails.

Review:

One of the best times I've ever had on a Mountain bike!! The sandstone is amazing. You can climb and descend gradients you thought would be too hard. It should be called stickrock instead of slickrock.
You have to ride down that crazy steep half pipe at the end of the mesa, some call it Doom or Dolly Pardon. It's a real confidence builder. Once you've ridden down it you'll see its not bad at all. Be careful out there cause the whole trail is on a Mesa thats like a upside down cereal bowl, going to close to the edge might ruin a Moab vacation! This is God's gift to the fat tire.

This is the the most fun I have had on my mountain bike to date. You can spend all day here or just kill a few hours riding for the pure pleasure of it. It's not difficult as far as 'gasping for air' uphills or anything like that, however, it is technical in places, and you'll need to keep your eyes wide open to ensure you get home in one piece. It has something for the beginner and the pro. I also rode Slick Rock, but went back to the Wash the same day for a less crowded ride.

This trail is a blast! It looks like you've landed on Mars and everything was created for mountain biking. There is basically no trail but it is quite easy to figure your way around the area. Just don't get too crazy or you get end up bunny hopping off of a 200 foot cliff. The rock is gritty like sandpaper and grabs even more than the rock on Slickrock trail. If you are looking for an easy day of pure fun after grinding it out on porcupine rim or poison spider, this is the place to go. You can make this ride technical by attacking some steeps or lips or just cruise around taking in the sights. Also may be fun for beginners as the terrain is relatively tame (except for what I mentioned before)

It's in the boonies west of the Moab airport. See the 'Moab West' map/guide at any shop in town. The guides recomend parking at the lot just off the highway. Don't. Drive as far as you vehichle will get you on the dirt (SANDY) road.

Review:

You're a lot better off riding this than doing the slickrock trail. There's less people, less a$$-kicker hills (less a$$-kickin downhills though), and definitely better bowls and pipes, which is what slickrock riding is all about. It's a good ride for all skill levels because you can pick and choose your obstacles.

I hesitate to recommend this ride, simply because its best feature is that I've never had to share one centimeter of the entire rock with anyone except my brother. I'd like to keep it that way. If playing around is the goal of the day, rather than pushing yourself to the limits of physical and technical exhaustion, this is the place. Imagine an island of red, flaky, layered sandstone to play on to your heart's content. Add great views from any side, and you've got a perfect ride. It's great for taking a rest day from the slickrock trail and a thousand of your new best friends you've shared it with. Just check your brakes before you get to close to the sides, and be ready for deer flies in the 'parking lot' during wet seasons.

Go into the second fork of the road. The first fork is very hairy and you get stuck easy in the sand. Go past the trees once you get into the wash and stay to the right side of the canyon. Find a spot to go up the slickrock and life is good from there on. Motorcycles are allowed in bartlett wash and on the slickrock.

This is and awesome ride. I come from the north and I go to bartlett on the way in and on the way out of moab. The hardest part is getting on top of the mesa. Then you just free ride. This is a very easy ride. Just fun for riding around. And dropping a few ledges.

There may be other (better?) access routes, but we parked at the Monitor&Merrimac trialhead along 191 north of moab. If you do so: Go right (->Tusher canyon?)at the first fork and again right and up the sandy hill (you'll know when you see it). Over that hill turn left (90 degrees) at the next chance towards Bartlett Wash Campsite (no sign). If you have a high clearance vehicle that can handle sandpits, you can probably drive that part.
The access to the slickrock area is just behind the campside. You'll have to cary your bike up there, it's ridable downwards :-)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
STAY OUT OF Tusher Canyon, The Monitor&Merrimac ATV trail goes along that Wash and its nothing but torture to bike there. Sand, sand, sand and sand and ATVs.
You'll go in there automatically when you miss that second turn to the right up the hill (see above). I did so, I hated it.

Review:

IT'S COOL
There is no specific marked trail. It's simple a huge slickrock play ground with stuff for any skill level.
The major direction on the way in is up to the left. You'll reach a sandy transfer that takes you up to the next level. Keep goin'. Enjoy it

This rock is huge! It flows around the canyons like ribbons of sandpaper. There are also chutes and halfpipes to ride through. Tons of drops and ledges add excitement to the play area. There is no specific line to follow so just ride everywhere and look for the cool stuff to go up and down. Great views too! I want to ride it again so bad but I'm 1800 miles away!

One of my favorite places to ride. It is a little hard to find the first time out there, ask for detailed directions in town. A great place to take beginner slickrockers, they can have fun here and get use to the riding on the rock before going to the Slickrock trail. It is also a good place for anyone who likes riding on slickrock. You can do some pretty extreme stuff, a couple of 30-40 foot chutes and countless dropoffs. It is not a long trail, but there are almost a full days worth of "playing around". Great place to go with a group of all abilities. I hardly ever go to Moab without riding it. Since I discovered it I havn't been back to the Slickrock Trail. Any questions feel free to email me.
