From Knoxville, TN: Take I40 to Pellissippi, through Oliver Springs, take right at 4 way stop light"downtown". Take left at turnoff to Frozen Head state park. (suggest using mapquest, there are some wierd backroads)

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Windrock Mountain(Oliver Springs, TN area)(extreme freeriding/downill) / Haw Ridge Park(Oak Ridge,TN) (popular xc riding

Review:

Have to share with horses. 2 loops.
1 Short loop: Start is gravely, to moderate / intermediate downhill. Stay straight, to technical uphill. Loop approx 4 miles
2 Long loop Start (same as short) on downhill take left on to Sawmill (uphill)3mi bottom stream crossings, to switchbacks . Take left at top, on to "Longest Mile"(more like 4 or 5 miles) rolling to downhill, end up where you started.

Strenuous but beautiful ride on challenging single track. Ride out to Coyote Point for good views to the south. Super down hills.

Bring lots of water.

Starting from the Ranger Station, the first 4 miles is all uphill, and it will break you! Coyote Point is an awesome view and well worth the climb. Watch for the horses and trail apples. Recommend 3 quarts of water in warm weather.

Park at Ranger Station - start climbing to lookout (awesome!) - check the brakes and head down to the water - loop back around and enjoy the roller coaster thrill ride back to the ranger station.

Review:

This trail has been a favorite of mine for years! Very similar to Windy Gap in N. GA. It is remote enough and hard enough to keep all the posers away. The switchbacks on both sides offer the perfect powersliding platform. There are several opportunities to catch big air. This place serves up the best of why I ride: it is remote, scenic, water crossings, switchbacks, waterbars, and enough loose baby heads to keep you on your toes!

The best way is the figure-8 loop of death: park at the back (longest mile/carl black intersection) and start by going up the longest mile to Coyote point. Then down the back, up Carl Black, across Saw Mill, up to Coyote Point, then down the Longest mile to the car. And if that is not enough, start at the ranger station instead!!

Windrock, Windrock, Windrock

Review:

This is my favorite ride around because it is hard enough that the weekenders will never be there. Recently I rode all of the Longest Mile in about 4 inches of snow!

Review:

I went here for a race and was really impressed! The course started out on wide rock roads through a few small ups and downs, then the fun began... with some blazing fast downhill that is only rough in a few sections. Once you get towards the bottom you encounter several stream crossings which aren't bad at all to cross. We had to do a "long loop" and a "short loop" (they may have routed things special for the race that day) and the long loop has a brutal climb! It is worth it, because once you are up it (by Coyote Point-killer view!) you are set. More downhilling action is just around the bend and a few small hills away. The course is not very tight and technical, and when you're going ultra fast you don't want it to be! On the "short loop" (where we went straight instead of a hanging a left after the first section of downhill) it is a bit rocky and definitely more rough (but ridable) than the other parts of the park. After that it was mostly a gradual uphill that just works the way back up to the top.

My highlight of the race was trying to make a pass on the roughest part of the downhill, getting the bars tangled up with one of my friends, and crashing HARD into a tree so badly that I cracked my helmet! Didn't notice I'd lost my water bottles in the wreck until later at the BIG climb... bring water unless you think you are going to find something just laying there!

This trail is for serious riders and whatever you do don't bring your Mom or wife beacause they will hate you before the first 30 min pass. It has brutal climbs that are great for training and downhills that would stoke Lopes.

Excellent trails for most skill levels. This was the first place I took my mom riding, and she loved it. Its also got trails that still challenge me. Lots of good downhills with waterbars to jump. Be sure to watch out for other bikers though, it can get a little crowded at times.

Ride out to Coyote Point and then do the Longest Mile to get 11 miles.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Frozen Head is very close by, but I haven't ridden it. Locals who race the 24 Hours of Canaan train at Lone Mtn.

Review:

This is a training ride for racers and advanced/expert riders. Do NOT take beginners out here or go alone. Take tools and water. The very long climbs lead to serious downhills. Not extremely techincal, but very, very strenuous. FS will be rewarded on the DH, but you won't enjoy pushing it up the hills.
