Enter the north side past the not too discreet trouser trollers, avoid the used condoms in gravel parking lot, dodge the loitering rim riders, and hold your breath as you pass the cologne clouds, then just follow the trails into the park. The new bridge (thanks, Knox county) leads into the new networks on the south side, steep ridge rides await there.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Haw, Norris, Walden Ridge, Lone Mountain

Review:

Trails are pretty easy, we (SCO, Jim Kimble especially) made em that way on purpose. The new stuff on the south side is not technical, but the trails are steep and hard to clean, especially the uphills.
I don't think anyone would have a problem with new trails being cut on the south side by those interested in a more technical ride. Nothing silly, but some twisty singletrack would be easy to add to the existing wide body trails and would extend the possibilities in the whole park.
As for the homos, I took my two sons to the King last Summer, and they won't go back. At 12,13, they are pretty homophobic, and it's hard to blame them, the queers at "I see a queen" are totally shameless. I would not take my kids to a whorehouse, and I can't really see much of a difference. Wish the County (or the adjacent Sevier Heights Baptist Church) would clean the place up, but that is part of the reason we were supported in our trail building efforts, they wanted more mainstream users to congregate in the park and displace the deviants. All that being said, once you get away from the north trailhead, the rope smokers fade into the distance and you can concentrate on riding, not dodging pooftahs.

I really like this trail because not only can I bike I can also meet new friends in the parking lot.j/k. Anyways it is a good trail for a few reasons. It offers something for almost everybody, close to Knoxville, and it is never that busy. Also when you have to merge onto Alcoa Hwy. after you complete the trail on the other side of the bridge you need to be really careful. There is no emergency lane on the bridge so literaly you can be inches away from being hit. As for the homosexuals I just am polite. I leave them alone they leave me alone. Just ride and have fun.

2 loops on north side and the long loop around the lake..

Other recommended trails in the same area:

Review:

This trail is a lot of fun on the main side, and a little more work on the opposite side. You can get some air on sime jumps. The switchbacks on the opposite side are a killer going up, but well worth the decent afterwards.
If you go to the opposit side, you'll have to share Alcoa Hwy for a minute or so to return.
Guys in the parking lot, while probably harmless, are shameful, just avoid them!
This trail is easy to intermediate and my wife's fav. in this area. I think its behind Haw Ridge and Concord in Knoxville.

Ride fast, no eye contact, and you'll be fine. Peace.

Review:

Mount your bike, put head down, and ride briskly past any parking lot dwellers, up along the gravel between the lake and railroad tracks, until you enter the woods. That's not to say that you're safe from the unsavory activity on the trails. A friend witness a gentleman waering nothing more than a pink gstring and flip flops wandering the singletrack one day. If you can handle homosexuals in the parking lot and an occasional wanderer, you'll love IC King. The trails have recently been expanded across the river in the back, so you can really get your money's worth out of this place in a day. Some really nice switchbacks and climbs on the new part.

Good stuff, real close to Knoxville. The single track is great, and there's a good variety of fun 'n' fast as well as moderately technical. The hills on the back section (over the wooden bridge) are a great challenge: tight, steep switchbacks are tough going up or down. Thanks to those who have done work on the trails, there are many of us who really appreciate it. Good trails for any level rider: nothing too harsh for beginners, and has something good for experienced riders, too. May get old for some people after a while, but it's well worth the short trip (if you're from around Knoxville) until it does get old.

One last thing: "Don't go alone or bring young kids?" Gimme a friggin' break. They're gay dudes, not prison-rapists. And unless you're latently gay I'm pretty sure homosexuality isn't contagious. Quit being a wuss and just enjoy the trails.

Ride all three trails. I rode one once, and two twice, and still totalled under 7 miles. For an extra THRILL, hit the steep bank going down from the entrance road -- WOW! You too can do it.

Best trail in the area. Well laid out. Well constructed (thanks Bike Zoo and friends.) Technical, often tight, but never really dangerous. Pretty steep grades, but never for long stretches. Relatively flat for some stretches. The ski-slope style trail difficulty signs (green dots, black diamonds) are a nice touch. Understand it will soon be lengthened considerably.

About the "Pickle Park" up front. These guys are just lonely, so get over it. They won't bite (unless maybe you ask real nice). Don't be intimated by their presence, can't imagine they'll bother you. Plus, they add entertainment value. One fellow, dressed quite sweet, sat on the opening trail near the cars. He was wearing WAY too much cologne!

This place is pretty cool. Once you cross the really small bridge, take a left for the advanced trail, take a right for a nice smooth but fun trail. If you take a left, you have a really small climb and then you come to an intersection. Take a left for the advanced and take a right for the trail that makes like a cross section between the smooth and advanced. I did the advanced at first it was awesome. So good slopes and some steep ups. It isn't too bad. You should do more than one lap to get into it. Dont judge it with one lap. There are some decent jumps every once in a while. I also hear they are building a trail on the south side of the park that will connect soon. Thats about it for the trail. Go try it sometime.

P.S. Watch out for the gay guys. They normally hang out in the parking lot and right past the bridge on the trail. (Hit one and you get 10 points) :)

Later,
James (Shroono) Deane

This is a good place for those who don't like huge climbs. It is a fun place to ride. The best things about this trail are the really nice people in the parking lot. These are some really freindly guys who wear silk shirts and enjoy discussing the latest Depeche Mode release. Don't be afraid to strike up a conversation with them. As for the trails, they are easy and fast. If you like to mountain bike and enjoy men's fashion, this place is for you.

I love to bring young children there to meet all of the nice people. I always tell these children that those bald headed guys that sit there in their car for 4 hours are waiting for the easter bunny. Na, but this is a good place if you just want to go after a work out or between classes. It is very easy but fun.

IC King is a fun course. Hats off to the guys at the Bike Zoo, local governmnet and other organizations that have worked to develop these trails.

The trails are fast and challenging. They're all single track that wind through the woods and along bank of the lake. The faster you can go, the better. I hear the new section will be open this summer. I can't wait.

I recommend this trail for all riders and all levels. You can make it as difficult as you want to. If your goal is to have fun, go to IC King.

One word of advice...Don't smile at any strangers :)

Very good system of trails for an after work workout. Good short speed trails as well. Only problem is that this seems to be some sort of gay hangout. My friends and I call this "I See Queens." Lots of men just wandering about in couples. Doesn't seem to be a problem once you get onto the trails though, just at the begining.
I think this is a good system of SHORT trails for anything from a beginner to a pro.

Tuesday nights, after the days get short, SCO people burn up the "Middle Ring Speedway." Trails should be ridden as fast as humanly possible (if not faster)! Great place for beginners, fun place for more experienced.

this is a fun place to ride! short but fast. skill levels range from beginner to good intermediate, the faster you ride the more technical you can make it. sucks after rains/during winter (my opinion - i'm too good for mud?!). nothing really steep. its (much) better/safer if you arrive dressed in your ridin' rags! south side's gonna be cool, when its done.
