Herb Parsons St ate lake

  Herb Parsons St ate lake

Location:

Tennessee

Nearest Town:

Memphis

Directions to Trailhead:

This trail is at Herb Parsons State Lake, it is located in Fayette Co.just outside the Shelby Co line. Leaving Memphis from I 40 East get off at Germantown Rd exit South bound. Go apporx. 4 mi to Macon rd ( redlight) take a left, you'll stay on that rd for quite a ways. You'll go throough the small town of Cordova and Fisherville at the 3 way stop stay straight on through Fisherville still on Macon. You will pass a county fire sta. on your right hand side( point of interest for me I'm a fireman) keep going< you'll leave Shelby Co and enter Fayette Co. Start looking for the brown sign on the right side of the road saying Herb Parson's lake it is a small sign. Turn right there I do not know the name of the street sorry. The entrance to the park is on the left. This should get you there.

Trail Description:

The trail starts on the leeve of the lake on the right side of the park looking at the lake. It is a all single track lap very tight in places, very techniclal for Memphis. The trail will stay pretty muddy after a good rain. There is a word of caution to stay on the trail and not wander off onto the archery range for obvious reasons. The trail is easy to follow in most places, you will leave the woods one time back onto the blacktop take a left here go 40 or 50 yds and reenter the woods. Lots of fun and lots of posion ivy so enjoy

6 miles approx

there all good, just have a map.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stanky Creek is more technical
tour de wolf is an aerobic work out
wolf river trails make a nice night ride
Lakeland is short and sweet

Review:

This is a nice riding trail system. It drains fast and can be ridden shortly after a rain. While it may not be very techinical(sp) it is a fast trail with a great view. If you are allergic to poision ivy, this trail is best ridden in the fall, winter and early spring. Some people have have a bad experience on this trail r/t the ivy.
I recommend this trail to anyone who loves to hammer, and is hesitant to ride after a rain, you wont hurt this trail!
ENJOY!!!!

The previous review I gave still stands but I did find a short side trail that is quite fun.. When you first enter the woods on the south side of the lake look for a trail that heads off to the right. This section eventually rejoins the main trail before the bridge with steps on both ends.

Start by signing in at the cabin, then head south to the trail entrance. Ride in a counter clockwise fasion around the lake...

This trail is mostly flat with occasional dips that require some concentration. Although some may say that this is one of the more technical single track trails in the area, I disagree. There are also quite a few bridge crossings and even some logs to hop over but nothing too difficult. Overall, I really like the length and views of the lake through the dense pine trees, etc.. But due to the lack of climbs and descents I give this trail three stars.

for Collierville, take Poplare to Collierville Arlington Rd. Turn right at Grukin's mini-mart onto Coll.-Arlington. Go 8 miles, turn right on Monterray. Go to dead end, turn left. Entrance to park is less than a mile on left. If you hit Macon Rd., you went too far.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Stanky Creek, Shelby Farms

Review:

Beware: There is poison ivy everywhere. Consider yourself warned. Nice trails, and much better than Shelby Farms. I wish the trail foilage was trimmed back, but at least it's not like the Tour de Truck which has no single track anymore. It's worth the trip if you're looking for something different.

a way from the poison ivy...

Barlett and Wolfe; sad but atleast no poison ivy, well I guess not.

Review:

While visiting my inlaws I brought my bike. The guy at the bike store in Germantown said this was the most technical trail in the area, how sad. If I lived here I diffently invest in a road bike or weekly plane tickets to somewhere, even Kansas. Flat, mud, exactly 6 logs, and I got poison ivy all over my legs, and that was at Easter. The only technical thing I ran into was a ditch crossing fill with muck and sewer water.

I take Macon east to Fisherville, then go south, and the entrance will be on your left. You could also get to the park by taking 64 to Houston Levee or Col-Arlington, take a right, take a left on Macon, then a right on Fisherville.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
I like to ride Stanky Creek (Bartlett Park), Tour de Wolf, Lakeland, but I have yet to ride the White Trail in the L. B. Nature Area.

Review:

I like the trail very much. I would rate it somewhere between Tour de Wolf and Stanky Creek on technical difficulty (Stanky Creek having the most technical sections.) Nice fast ride, some tight areas, lots of logs, and a few bridge crossings. Great view of lake as others have stated. Tall riders watch out for an overhanging tree in the middle of the trail a little before the half-way point. Almost always (even going slow) I tend to scrape at the very least my Camelback. If you're new to riding, just take it slow, suck up the scenery, and enjoy!

I still get lost going here, you probably don't want my directions.

Other recommended trails in the same area:

Review:

Nice trail, scenic view of the lake for almost entire course which makes about a 6 mile loop. It is fast and smooth, would make for a great family ride. Not too technical, except for one narrow bridge that you cross. Great for beginners..

It's a good trail to ride when it's dry. Mostly flat w/ some small hills. Lots of logs to bunny hop. Check in at the store when you get there. If you like to fish bring your poles also.

Patriot Lake is a good trail but it is built for speed and wolf river is good too.

Review:

This is a good trail that is the most technical anywhere around. In parts it is very tight and there are lots of logs. Poison Ivy is terrible and the trail stays muddy for a long time after a good rain and in the winter it is aweful. Snakes are abundant, and hey, I don't like snakes. This trail is a great alternative to, say, patriot lake because it is techinical and nothing else is.
