  Athens Regional Park Trail

Location:

Tennessee

Nearest Town:

Athens

Directions to Trailhead:

I-75 runs from Knoxville to Chattanooga. Take Exit 49 and head east. So, coming from Knoxville (going South) exit and turn left, go under I-75. Within about 1/2 mile there is a small brown park sign just before the entrance. Turn right into the park. You will see the trail entrance on the left but continue up the hill to one of many parking areas.

Trail Description:

The trail is well kept. Fun for all skill levels (mainly beginner and intermediate). Good climb at the beginning of the trail gets you warmed up quick. And where there's an uphill, there's a good downhill to go with it. The trail called the roller coaster was good. There are a couple of splits to the trail so 4 times through will hit about every trail. I am not sure how long the trail is. I am not a local, but heard about the trail and tried it out. Others like myself may not know it exist. If you are in the area, try it out. Overall its a great compact trail that is well kept.

Trail Length:

Recommended Route:
The trailhead is not marked, so pay attention to the left side of the road as you come into the park; the primary trailhead begins after the first clearing of trees. You will actually be going into the trees after you cross the ditch.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Near Chattanooga, go to Chilhowee area; it's an absolute blast, from super technical to break-neck descents! (Clemmor Trail)

Review:

This is a good trail, not a great trial. The "roller coaster" area is really fun. And you'll get a great workout; ideal for intermediate riders. Perfect ride for a quick commmute from 30 miles away; anything farther and I'd look for better trails.
