I am sure there are some other ways that could take you right to the trail head, but I parked at the university apts. south off old taylor road and rode along the power lines turned left onto old tracks and the trails start off that doubled RR track and bring you back there conviently.

This trail was wonderful. I went after it had rained for 2 days, nonstop, expecting it to be really muddy, but it was fantastic! There were signs for the short loop (left), but no signs for the long loop, (right) off the railroad trail. I have ridden all over and am convinced that this is one of my favorite trails. It had different lengths, was rough enough, and was beautiful. I recommend it to anyone.

Review:

trails are both sides of RR track.most reconnect with RR track and are well marked and identified as A, B, Froot loop, stump loop and others;including unnamed.Where RR track crosses a gravel road,go right for 10 yards and turn left back onto trails.very enjoyable, difficult in places and will test you at several spots.beginner to intermediate plus, regardless of your skill level, you will have a gteat ride.I have ridden all the known trails in this area and this is the best.my thanks to who or whatever club or group keeps these trails in the condition they were on the day I rode,Great Work! Thanks

Park at Sterling University Apartments (Old Taylor Road) folow the power lines until you come to an old RR track. Trun right at the RR track and follow the path. There are several entrances along the path (Log Road Trail, Fruit Loop, Little Loop) They are all part of the Fruit Loop trails and eventually take you back to the RR Track path.

Fruit Loop:
A good trail for riders with advanced skills. Beginners may want to use caution on some sections. There are lots of hills, usually with roots, and some good tech sections. There is an extension to the trail (unmarked) that winds through a wooded area not owned my the University.

Little Loop:
This is a section of the Fruit Loop used by joggers and beginner Mtb riders. For the most part, it is fast and fun. I can only think of two areas on this section that may give a beginner some problems.

Log Road Trail:
This is a wide dirt road that connects the two ends of the Fruit Loop Trail. It's a great work-out ride and it runs past a small lake.

Park by the Whirlpool truck entrance off Old Taylor Rd. Enter the trail there at the power line and follow it to the railroad tracks....take a left onto the old tracks and go till you come to a trail that drops down the hill to the left...

This trail is better than I remembered...I was told it had increase to about 10 miles but its still only about 6 unless I missed something...enter to the left and then hang another sharp left and follow that trail (its new and twisty and tight) it brings you to the railroad track again...down the track and enter the trails again...eventually you loop your way back to the same tracks...its a great loop trail...dont ride it in August...its HOT HOT HOT!!!!! but still worth the effort...Fruit Loop is one of the best in the south...

These trails are responsible for my addictoin to mountain biking. Well maintained and constantly being expanded by local riders and the friendly guys OBC, this trail offers hours of fun for riders of all skill levels. The entrance to the trails offers ample space for riders to warm up and stretch out. The traffic consists of mountain bikers only (no rut-digging motorcycles). Portions of the trail system are fast and smooth. The climbs and descents are adrenaline pumping. Other parts of the trail are fairly long and tortuous.

From Oxford, turn S off Hwy 6 on Old Taylor Rd. After .5 mile or so, turn right onto Whirlpool drive and park under the power line. Ride SW on the power line until you reach the old RR. Turn Left, (S) on RR, and continue to the trails.

The trail network is about 10 miles of singletrack, all off the RR. If you continue straight on the RR for a few miles, you can connect to Thacker mountain which has a good climb and some nice views.

For a more detailed trail description, or to hook up with someone to ride with, contact the Oxford Bicycle Company.

These are some of the best trails in the state. (Build more trails!) Trace State Park near Tupelo is also worth checking out if you don't mind motorcycle/ATV traffic.

Review:

These trails are well maintained and constantly growing. The singletrack is tight and windy with many short technical problems; these trails will be considered hard by any beginner. They are very fun, created from scratch by biker's. The only other trail users are, occasionally, joggers.

At the trailhead take a left on the old railroad bed...go until the rail bed runs out and take a right onto the single track...the trail brings you right back to where you started.

I road this trail at the end of a weekend trip...well worth the effort finding it...its one of the best in mississippi...very fast...very smooth...pristine single track...some places the ride gets so tight you only have room for handle bars...no serious climbs...but ridden fast and deliberate will give a serious workout.
