Review:

This is a great trail especially for Florida. These guys have really worked hard to make some technichial riding in the sandbar state. The playgroud area is freeride city not my bag (I still ride a hardtail) the trails are really cool, real short hard climbs. It is like a series of tight rollers.

If you are going to be in the area get in touch with the ridgeriders and ride the trail. If you are an egocentric snob from Psigah, or Moab, or someother wonderland... just go ride at home this is florida no mountains. Besides it would be a shame for you to come to florida and go home with a broken arm, or somthing... and the Toe might just kick your...

This place has a good deal of hard work go into it.

tight place. Some bad freeriding in stuntland and the jump park. the jump park has some pretty intense jumps. Stuntland has some drops that will turn you into a women real quick. Haven't finished ridingthe trails yet, due to a trip to the hospital for a friend (concussion and broken arm) but from what i have ridden they are some pretty fun and technical trails, definetly ride the trails as soon as possible.

Great place. The freeride park(stuntland) and the jump park are sick, the spot for freeriders in central florida. Haven't made it all the way around the trails yet, but from what i've done its insane. The reason we didn't finish them is cause my friend had to take a trip to the hospital. Some huge drops in the freeride section and some tight jumps in the jump park. If you freeride, you have to make a trip to the toe.

This park is the BOMB, thanks Paul, James, Scott and Dave (The Locals). If you step into the State of Florida go to the TOE. In your face from the get go. About 9 miles of PURE RUSH. I hope you can Ride. Private Park call the Ridge Riders for a guided tour or else your up the creek without a bike. By far the best Park I've ridden. All I do at nights is dream about this Park. The locals have skills and lots of it and the funny thing is they don't even know how good they ride or they’re just as humble and cool as I found them to be. They'll teach you how to treat visitors. They breed them different over there as apposed to Miami. Faaast drops and steep tallll climbs on skinny ridges. Free ride park is also exiting. I can't say enough.

I'm extremely lucky to live 30 minutes from the best trail in Florida.
I started at Carter Road, Lakeland, and have travelled all over the state to ride. So far the T.O.E has been the best experiance yet.
Not to discredit Santos and Razorback, because they are awesome trails, but the T.O.E takes all of the excitement of those trails, and puts it in one location.
You don't have to ride 2 miles of boring flatwoods trails to get to the "good" stuff. Just kick-ass drops and climbs around every corner.

Must be a member of ridgeriders (http://www.ridgeriders.net) Even if you only get to ride the trail two or three times a year, the membership is worth it (only $30.00). The Toe is an absolutely outstanding trail. I was lucky enough to find some weekend warriors who showed me around. You definitely want to ride with someone your first few times. Easy to get lost, but you can eventually find your way back to the parking lot after riding awhile. I got lost after I had to stop to fix my chain which came off. The trail is extremely technical with a lot of obstacles, roots, drops, etc. Not for the faint hearted or the beginner. I ride Markham Park in Davie, Fl every weekend and I can say that The Toe is maybe a little bit more technical than Markham's advanced trail, but the elevation in Central Florida is much greater, making The Toe a killer stamina builder. Where Markham's advanced trail is only a little over a mile (the real advanced trail, not the other ones that were previously marked intermediate, but now marked advanced), The Toe is one big 7 mile advanced trail. Bring a lot of water, do it in the morning before it gets hot, and ride with someone who's done it before or prepare to get lost.

Hi everyone. I'm a mountain biker currently living just outside of LA (Hacienda Hts). Ive been riding all over the Southern California area on and off for almost 10 years and have never ridd'n outside So Cal. After I complete my teaching credential here, I might bring my family to Florida to teach (My wife has family in Lakeland). The one thing that haunted me about the move was the thought of no more mountain biking (Florida?). You could understand my elation upon reading about all the positive trail reviews for the two Lakeland trails (If we move I can still mountain bike!!)

My question is for those from the So Cal area who have ridden these Floridian trails. How would they compare to... say, Carbon Canyon State Park, San Juan trail, Whiting Ranch, Shabarum..(some of the more popular "local" rides ) ect. Im not asking if they compare in length, but rather... riding enjoyment. Again, I was very pleased to see all those 5's knowing that, out of all the cities that my wifes' family (her sister's family and parents) they just happen to live in Lakeland....... which, according to many of the reviews, is home to two of the best singles in ALL Florida (There IS a God).

Thanks for any help.

Steve

On the up and up, you do not ride here until you have logged in 500 hours of offroad. You will not enjoy it. The climbs and descents are continuous. Many tracks offer some places to chill out, not here. When you can ride the most of the spines at Carter Park, then give this place a try but go with a good friend who can help you improve.

Is this the raddest of all - no. But the timid will not enjoy themselves. Also, you better enjoy going up. Funny how almost every drop is associated with an up. We rode the course each way and there seemed to be little overall difference - it was not easy going in either direction (but we enjoyed it all).

If you are accomplished, find yourself in central FL, contact the ridgeriders.net. They are wonderful people and all are good riders. Great time.

The only thing missing in this park is the loop d' loop. UpDownUpDownUpDown, 40% of the time on ridges, a few bridges thrown in, spanish moss & palms & ferns in the chainrings, and wonderful scenery. If you like the waves, you will love this place. I am an XCer who loves to ride at pace. You can't open it up here. However the pace ride here is like a tight giant slalom race course. The G's are ripping the bike from edge to edge. Have fun, meet the members, this track is worth the membership. I want this track in my backyard.

The best Florida has to offer. This trail is the next level up from Carter Rd, and I think Carter Rd is great as well. It is well worth the membership fee, and the club members are very supportive to one another. This place is definitely not for beginners, people lacking testicular fortitude like the wildboar, and those who can't climb and descend at rapid speeds. WILDBOAR SIGHTED AT THE TOE !
Description: Rides a shag carpet-trimmed beach cruiser with peach colored tassles. He is often seen on his bike wearing nothing but a superman cape and a leather jockstrap. I was told he has spent the last 5 years as Elton John's gimp, so we all know what he enjoys in his free time. He was last seen molesting a pot-bellied pig on top of an overpass while singing Michael Jackson's "I'm Bad" This beast is an embarrasment to our country and the great sport of mountain biking. Please disregard any of his opinions, consider them unjustified and loony. If you spot him, report it to the local authorities and seek therapy yourself.

It looks like the wildboar who rode the TOE couldn't handle the terrain (not for panzies). The reason the trail is for members only is simple. We leased the trail under our club name and carry liability insurance up to a million dollars per rider ,plus we make lease payments.(insurance only covers members) This is the first person to have a bad opinion of the trail out of hundreds of real mountain bikers. Hopefully the next time he will upgrade his Huffy and have a better time. By the way there is no comparision between a highway overpass and this trail. Seven miles of thick wooded single track with with dozens and dozens of climbs and drops. Wild boar was probably trespassing because no guest are accepted without prior consent.

It's a private trail to RidgeRiders and their guests only. Either that means its a great trail and the members want to keep it for themselves or that the club wants your money to join to ride the trail. Call them up and ride the trail yourself to decide. After I rode it I wondered how many people join the club after the ride. Carter Road is so much better it's a joke. Hydrate or die. Food might help too - I went out the other day feeling subpar and suffered greatly, walking most of the climbs and panting like a dog at the top.

Ridge Riders have added some woodwork lately, as mentioned below, and as usual the drops are incredible, there are so many and most of them require great attention unless you want to buy some real estate at the bottom.

As an intermediate rider, the whole trail is ridable, I don't have to worry about wrecking, but you just have to be careful and keep hydrated.

Enjoy the few flat areas and short drops/climbs and bear down on the big stuff.

Even if you have to travel far, joining Ridger Riders is worth it so that you can help fund their cause.

First: Hydrate! Be prepared and rested. Should you ride the TOE first thing in the morning, don't eat a large portion of biscuits, eggs and sausage gravy. You may see again, on you bars and top tube! If you are out of shape (like me) dont try to blast right away.

This trail is unique. It is the result of careful planning to take advantage of some 50 to 70 year old phosphate pits. The woods that have grown up around the pits look very natural and not the result people digging large holes. There is little visable evidence of a commercial mining venture having taken place there. Kent and his crew at Ridge Riders have done a great job at taking advantage of every ridge and drop left over from the pits to make one of the coolest places that I have ever ridden (outside of the real mountains). There are quick steep climbs that will test your ability to maintain rear wheel traction, as well as your leg strengtn and endurance. The trail has and abundance of short and long steep drops for all of you adrenalin junkies. The TOE also has its share of exposed roots and some logs. The Ridge riders have built a few cool bridges and stunts (no teeter totters yet), but you have to be alert to set up for them. The TOE is one of the coolest places to ride in Florida, it is not a wide open, big ring trail, it is a technical trail that requires some fitness.THIS TRAIL IS NOT FOR BEGINNERS!

A must-ride for all adrenalin junkies. Intermediate to experienced riders only. NOT for begginers!!! STEEP drops from 20-60 ft. high, technical single-track through lush oak and pine forest, hard climbs, several small bridges over a running creek and the most fun you can have at a Fl mountain bike park. With the newly cut trails, the whole loop is about 4.5 miles.
North loop is alot of moderate climbs and fast descents winding through the woods (some sections pretty technical).
South loop, however, is like a roller-coaster gift from God! The first section is all rhythm. You hardly have to pedal! But that doesn't mean it's easy. Get a little squirrely, and you'll be well on your way down about a 50 ft drop. But to fully enjoy it you have to stay off the brakes. (First-timers, take it slow the first time so that your ABLE to enjoy the full effect the next lap around.)
The second half is all about altitude! The most wicked drops I have ever seen. You approach the lip, expecting to see 'some' ground at the bottom, but you don't see it until your half way down. It is steeeeeep!! But wait, once you reach the bottom, it's right back up again! There are about 3 or 4 of these crazy drops and they are all set up a little different so check it out before you go barreling over the next lip.
Thanks Ridge Riders for the super job you did on the new trails.
Get to The TOE and go nuts! (Don't forget your brain bucket.)

I've been to Reddick and Santos a few times each, and, yes, they are both great rides, but if you live in the Tampa Bay area, TOE is the place to go. Shorter drive, KILLER RIDE!

Please note that it is the only trail in FLA with a perfect 5.0 rating. As well, note that it is not for everyone. If you ride Toe, and survive, feel free to add another 5 to its rating stash. Any other rating and we'll all assume that it sent you away, whining and whimpering, with your tail between your legs, never to return. If that's you, please don't rate the Toe. If not, then you know that the Toe is simply the Best Singletrack Loop in FLA!
Major props to all of us in Club RRMBA-(open to anyone by the way).
-See you at the trail...

THE TOE HAS TO BE THE BEST TRAIL THAT I HAVE EVER RIDDEN. THE MAIN THING THAT I TO EXPRESS WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE TOE, IS TO SIT ON YOUR BACK TIRE AND DON'T HIT THE BREAKS BECAUSE YOU ARE GOING RIGHT BACK UP. I LIKE TO THINK OF "THE TOE" AS A HUGE ROLLER COASTER. ALSO EVERYONE THAT CAN JOIN "RIDGE RIDERS" IT IS THE BEST CLUB AROUND WE HAVE GREAT GROUP RIDES, GET TOGETHERS, AND THE MOST IMPORTANT WE HAVE TTHE BEST MOUTAIN BIKE LEADERS THAT ANY CLUB COULD HAVE. SO THANKS TO KENT AND ALL THE ONES THE MAKE THE TOE AND CARTER 2 OF THE BEST TRAILS IN FLORIDA!!!!!!

Wow! I ride mostly in north Georgia which has some great trails, but I think that was one of the coolest trails I have ridden. Several small bridges fun fast drops, high ridges, totally enjoyed my ride. The Ridge Riders have done an amazing job with this trail. Thanks guys

This is a true mountain bike trail!! I live in Tampa and Tampa's trails are for beginners on single speeds. You must be comfortable riding big drops. You are either going up or down. One of the best trails in the state. Oh yeah you must join the Ridge Riders to access the combo. Great Club awesome trail. Bring your helment!!

i started at carter park and fell in love with the sport, and traveled on to ocala, bellview and such..i then joined rrmba, and got my key to the TOE (trial of experience)(inexperinced riders not recommended) i havent been back to ocala since. i have been to the local emergency room with a broken wrist and seperated shoulder...this trail is great, really fast and can be really scary. a new loop was recently added, which is flater for the less experinced rider. if you are in the area, i highly recommend it., it is private to rrmba, so you must join the assoc. or get invited. membership is only $25, if i remember correctly. hats off to kent hickman and all the memebers who help maintain the TOE and carter road., the assoc. is great...

Fast, fun. Not for those who are afraid of steep drops and hard corners. This trail will keep you heart rate up from start to finish. only a few flat spots. 90% of trail is under the cover of the trees, lots of shade for those mid-summer rides. The scenery is awsome, but if you take your eye of the trail to enjoy it, you'll end up alot closer to nature than you think(if your friend is a doctor bring him with you). Not for beginers. Without regard the best trail in florida, definitly worth the membership to ride.

i found this trail to be extremely fun and fast. no major ups or downs but there are well placed steep short climbs with switchbacks at the top. plenty of roots to make the trail fairly technical and the scenery is fantastic. my hat is off to the club who maintains this trail, conditions were excellent.
