This trail is very fun. You can make it as difficult as you would like. From beginners to experts. My wife rides with me most of the times-she is able to take on the trails at her own pace and finds it challenging. For me, I take it on lil more aggressively and find the trail to be very technical at times, keeps you on your toes with all the roots and unexpected muddy areas (watch for mud after there has been recent rains). Very fun course. Hit em hard and have fun doing it!!!!

Snow Hill is where I learned to ride and is still my favorite. It is a great course for the beginner to the pro. The course has alot of single track with some open fast spots. There are small climbs and downhills with some technicle areas as well. You can make the track as hard or easy going as you want. It is well marked and maintained. Weekend can be crowded but weekdays are very enjoyable.

Hi folks. I really enjoy reading the reviews of the trails. I just want to tell you guys whats happening. If you don't know, my main missions with the forest are preservation, conservation, and restoration. Being a multiple use forest, recreation is the mix also but only to the extent that the forest can actively handle. Having said that, please stay on the designated trails and tell everybody you know the same. Enjoy the trails and be safe. - Wil, LBESF

I ride this trail more often than any others because it's the closest thing to my house in South Orlando. It works for me because you can get out there and pound it for two hours and not need to worry too much about having to wonder if I should take the crazy downhill or not (there really aren't any), its just a good XC trail with some technical manuevers to negotiate. The other day an armadillo ran right underneath my front chain ring, did the stop, drop, and roll and finally dipped out. His buddy the snake tried to do the same thing a few minutes later. I've also had a deer sprint in front of me on the trail, that was pretty neat. Not bad for wildlife.

razorback in ocala is supposedly the best place in florida to go... still no mountains... or even hills...

Review:

Nice little windy trail that includes very short ups and downs, many roots, very narrow in most places. There are many trails and you can get lost if it's your first time. This is a good trail to practice using your mountain bike on with the exception of mountains. Obviously there are no mountains in Florida but you gotta give it to them for making a trail for mountain bikers. Florida doesn't even have any hills for like a 100-200 foot climb on your bike which would be standard in most XC mountain biking trails. Overall a fun trail dedicated to mountain bikers.

From Deltona, proceed to S.R. 415 (via any of the major E/W roads... Ft. Smith, etc.), then turn right (S). Follow 415 to 46, turn left on 46. Proceed down 46 until you reach an intersection with a Handy Way-- turn right off of 46. Look for Snow Hill Road on the left, it will veer away at a 45 degree angle. Take Snow Hill down to the Jones East Trail Head.

Just rode this one on 11/10/02, and it's in great shape. A little sandy in places, but totally manageable, just keep it in mind when you come down slopes into twisty rights and lefts. This time of year it's getting dark about 6PM, so go a little earlier than you might normally if you like going in the afternoon. Do not miss the map posted on this site!

It's a lot of fun. If the weather is really dry, then the sugar sand can get pretty bad. If it rains a lot, then the trails can get awfully muddy. Other than that, it's a great place to go. There's roots, fun little hills, s-curves, and a nice view of the econ river- just don't fall in the water. If you are going out there early in the morning before any other bikers arrive, expect to go through tons of spider webs.

This trail is good for bikers of all levels.

From downtown Orlando:
* Take East Colonial (SR 50) almost into Bithlo and turn left on Chuluota Road (419).
* Go north until you hit SnowHill Road, turn right.
* Go around the bend, about a mile after that on the left is wooden-fenced parking (Jones East Trailhead).

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Hard Rock in Ocala is worth the drive, and under new management from what I understand (since Oct. of 2001). Very technical, though, not for the faint of heart or beginners.

Review:

Weekend riders when we get a chance, just moved to Oviedo when we found out we had a great trail just down the street! Had a blast riding through in the mid-afternoon summer rain. Dense trail very narrow in certain places, not marked well in some places - easy to end up circling around if you're not familiar with the trails. Fun trail, though.

New to experienced riders will have fun here. If you're new to the trails:
* most ride fast through here, so be alert
* watch out for the poison ivy
* just be aware of the drop-offs into the water

Alot of people complain of sugar sand at the entrance. The only sugar sand is if you go down the wide car-trail. Try going to the right (from trailhead) down the winding singletrack. No sugar! This leads you through some very very twisty stuff for about 2 or 3 miles to a few Y's and eventually to the river.

Well, I went out there for the first time on friday.. I went back on saturday and sunday, so that tells you something. This is really my first trail to ride, so I cant give it 5 chilis, but I can give it 4! I have had a great time each time I have ridden it. The trails running along the riverside are the coolest. Its especially neat to look to your right or left and see a good 30 - 40 foot drop off into water. If you make an oops, your swimming. I have yet to explore much of this place, but I am going back this week! There are some very easy flat singletracks and some ups and downs near the river. Anyone from newbies to experienced riders can ride here. I am a decent rider, and ended up endoing into the palms once, and having to unclip a few times to avoid braindamage.

Good singletrack trails. The trails at the very beginning may get a little sandy in the summer but as you go deeper into the forest the conditions are always good.

Not highly technical but some good single track. The best single track is on the two bridge trail (2 1/2 miles) and the outback trail. Then the river trail and the trails that paraller dead deer creek would also be quite good. A lot of the trail will follow the Little Econ river making it a scenic ride as well. Keep an eye out for one of the many gators that you may spot.

Great trail. Its kinda confusing on your first ride, but once through, its easy to remember. There are several other trail steming out of the main path, these trails are not marked so be wary of your map,if it is your first time. The first leg of the trail is sandy and during dry spells can be tricky to manage, but the backside of the trail is hard dirt, roots and small tight whoopty whoops. Its a tight trail in the begining but opens up later. I would definately recommend this trail to anyone.

Been riding this trail twice a week for awhile now. Still not bored with it. Great flat out endurance riding with tons of trails not on the map. The front end has most of the sand. Some of the loops will test your "seat" out with the roots. ( we avoid these loops now). If you can work toward the river and try the trails out around it. These can be faster with some mild "air" opportunities. We ride here mostly because it's close but we still haven't gotten bored either.

From UCF, Take Alafaya Tr. to McColloch and take to the end. Go right and take the next right onto Lake Price. Follow Lake Price over all of the crappy Speed Humps to Lake Picket Road. Turnn Left onto Lake Picket and take to the end and turn left again. This road will take you through the dinky town of Chulouota. There wil be a newer looking road on your right (This is snowhill, I think) follow this about two or three miles and you will see a Jones East Trail sign on your left. This is easy to pass so be prepared to turn around.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
lake Picket road is a great place to Road Bike also

Review:

This place is a great all around trail. I have used this trail for training quite often for the last few years and I am still not tired of going out there. There are great speed sections quickly followed by steep and technical turns. There are sections of Sugar sand and roots but any respecting biker can manage without a problem.

Try an evening ride, it stays light enough until about 6:15 or so and it is a totally different ride. Don't worry, Bigfoot spends his summers in the Keys

This trail is fast. Some minor drops and climbs and some great scenery. Stay on the trails by the creek for the most challenging riding. There are lots of singletrack loops off of the main trail that you can take. If you follow the trail you will come to a suspension bridge that is very cool. Unfortunately there are no bike trails on the north side of the bridge but there are some hiking trails.

Pretty much a beginer/intermediate(some parts by the river are harder. LOTS of sugar sand, theres more sand here than at a beach. My advice is to get your weight off the front wheel and haul but through it, this trail can be a lot of fun in places, some wildlife can be seen here. Mainly armadillos. Some areas are incredibly rooty. There are also some sections that are fairly clear and a lot of fun to speed through. Takes about 2 hours to explore the full length, trails are VERY badly marked, some spots intersect horse and maybe hiking trails, if you find yourself on a large sugar sand road, thats all sugar no hardpack then your in the wrong place.

It can get a little bit sandy at times, but it is a great intermediate trail. They just opened up a new loop that goes right alongside the bank of the Econlockhatchee River, great to kayak too, and it is a blast. Go along the trail and take a swim at the foot bridg if you want.

Guys please do not step foot on the footbridge across the river if you are not a member of the appropriate orginization, and there is one.

Also DO NOT crsoo the bridge and ruin the hiking paths on the other side of the lake. This is very illegal if that matters at all.

1st - The newly payved Snowhill road now intersects SR 419, just keep going past 2nd ave another 1/3 mile or so. I beats the speed bumps on 2nd ave. THis is a fun trail, but I was glad it had rained the few days before I went. This helped firm up the sugar sand that is on the 1st mile or so of the right / north side entrance of the trail and several long stretches and turns on the rest of the trail. Although I'd prefer fewer roots on a lot of the trail, I really enjoy the trail, I have a blast, and keep going back. In the back side of the trail the north leg that comes off the horse trail is not marked and you can miss it if you don't know which way to go. It's a long way back going back the south leg of the trail, (f you took the long back leg to the back side of the trail). Some of the trail if just wide enough to barely get your handle bars through, so if you're new at this stuff watch out for the clearance (yes you'll fit)and the roots or stumps that will be in front of you. All in all I wish someone would make the same trail with less roots and more trail that you could really cruise on, I have friends that went with me several times and now will not go back because the trail tried to beat them and their bike to death.

most people star of at the parking area and ride thru the scrub brush area, however all that soft sand is a real hassle, try riding up onto or along the road, over the overpass that goes over the econ river, look to the left right before the barb wire fence starts, theres an entry way/trailhead that leads you thru some very nice singletrackinto the woods were it gets real fun and rooty..... this will lead you in and out of the wooded areas and eventually up onto the horse trail part that leads up to the suspension bridge..try going to your right and enjoy some real good drop offs further down the trail, then go back and cross the bridge and go to your right (along the river)theres a real good figure 8 loop back there that has some good drop offs and climbs as well as some speedy areas.....give that a few laps then head back to the bridge and go any way you'd like theres a good selection of trails from that point, just remember to turn around at some point and go back the way you came in(other side of the bridge) it's well worth it to skip all that soft sand!!!!!!

I have been riding this trail for about 2 1/2 yrs several time a week. This trail was difficult for my wife and friends who don't ride often, mostly due to the soft sand. Beginners should take it slow and easy.

Review:

The trail can be very difficult when the sand is soft and dry. Once past the sandy parts you will find some very nice rolling slopes and the ride to the bridge along the river is a nice sight. This trail is a good work out and fun at the same time. On the weekends you will find a variety of people from the hard core to the family enjoying a nice weekend ride. My wife and I enjoy riding it everytime. Night time rides during a full moon are very nice as well. I was told the name Snoll Hill comes from the reflection of the white sand on a full moon night which looks like snow caps.
The whole trail can take almost 2 hours to complete but don't try it the first time and you can get lost if you're not paying attention.

Visiting from Colorado, this trail was a treat. It was very different from our riding. The twisty singletrack and the hills near the river were fun. If you are visiting Orlando, go to A.J. Barnes Bicycle Emporium in Winter Springs and rent bikes. They are very cool and will give you directions to The Little Big Econ State Forest. This is a ride where you can hang out and have fun, it's pretty easy and would be excellent for beginners.

The environmental center is probably the closest thing to snow hill in Central Florida. It is technical and has a nice loop that can take about 20 minutes to cycle through. Wear a helmet and go all out and any of these are awesome.

Snowhill is good for going on a 2 hour ride or an all day ride. There are enough trails to keep you occupied without getting bored. Near the river(creek) is probably the best part, nice rolling hills and some good lips to get some air off of. Following the trails back will lead to a suspension bridge, on the other side are some drop offs/jumps and a place to camp.

I like this trail. It has really cool dips and drops here and there. I rode Morris Bridge in Tampa for Five years, and this trail is at least twice as fun. You might even find some of those huge 15 foot florida downhills! (fun for the moment).

If you do live along the eastern coast of FL between Flagler and Brevard counties, you might want to try Sugar Mill as well. A great technical trail with a few surprising downhills.

Review:

I used to ride this trail about every other week. It's the closest trail that's worth a darn to Cocoa Beach. Snow Hill has always been a fun trail and a great one to learn on. It's easy enough so that a beginner won't break their neck, yet challenging enough so you won't get bored. There are also other sections of the trail that can be found on the north side of the bridge. These trails are very rooty in some parts and they have a few pretty good drops. Until recently, the trail was getting pretty sandy but some maintenance has been done on it and it's in excellent condition (especially for Florida). Sure, it's no Bellview or Hardrock, but for people living in east, central Florida, it's the best we've got. One more thing. Some people have felt it necessary to do their part by removing or "dumbing down" obstacles. Please knock it off. There aren't that many "technical sections" out there and with you boneheads trying to make it easier, you are ruining it for the rest of us. The obstacles only make you a better rider. If the one's at Snow Hill are too tough for you, perhaps you should sell your mountain bike and get back on the road where it's nice and flat and you feel safe. Overall, I have to give the trail 4 tires. It's not perfect by a far stretch, but for what it has to work with, it does a great job. Kudos to the people doing the trail maintenance. Please post the next time you are doing this so some more people (myself included) can pitch in and lend a hand. Keep riding.
