Santos is undoubtedly the best I have ridden yet in florida. The range of trails to choose from is AWESOME! Even when the parking lots are packed, you can ride long intervals without seeing anybody. If you park at the temporary trailhead you have easy access to all the trails. Happy riding.

Review:

Santos is the perfect place for any newbie to cut their teeth. Rides range from smooth singletrack to technical climbs and descents to a monster known simply as the VORTEX. Depending on the route you take, the trip to the bridge over I-75 can be 20+ miles round trip. The west side of the bridge is not the easiest to navigate, but I beleive that is being adressed. There is no water supply so be prepared. The trails are clearly marked and color coded and are a good litmus test for your abilities, offering variations in difficulty for you to adjust and improve. The Santos trail is the benchmark by which other Florida trails should be measured.

Directions to Temporary Parking:

To reach this parking area, keep traveling west on 80th Street until you reach 25th, and turn left onto 25th. For those of you used to riding your bike from the Santos side, to “the Other Side” trails, 25th Street is the road that you cross between those 2 trail systems.
The trailhead on S.E. 25th Street will serve as the temporary parking area.

The gate will be open, and you may park your vehicle on either side of the road leading into the gravel pit area. Please don’t block the roadway leading into this area.

AWESOME!!!!!!!! This place is great day or night, hot or cold, and there are trails for everyone skill level, have taken my son out there on the yellow trails a couple of times until he decided he wanted to try a red trail and kicked my butt, now he is not allowed to go with me anymore, lol! I will be back out there as soon as I get the 21 stitches removed from my rightleg (done on the same red trail my kid smoked me on)!!!

There are trails for everybody in this lovely area. If your 4-year old just learned to ride, take them here. If you've been riding offroad since the early 80's, visit this place. I live about five-miles away and whenever I'm in town, I hop on my Gary Fisher and ride to there. From the quarries to the, easies, this trail is the best.

Trail Ridden: Once a week
Recommended Route:
From Apopka, take 441 north towards Ocala. About one hour later, you should be entering Belleview. 441 will split for about a 1/2 mile. Make a left at the police station, Crossing 441 south. Make a left at the sign that says "Santos Trailhead", of course. Then find yourself a nice, shady parking spot.

Review:

This is undoubtly Florida's nicest mountain bike trail. It has forty miles of singletrack. Trails are "color coded" according to skill level. This is a very popular area. The trails weave through a pine forest and around abandoned phosphate mining pits. It seems as though it is a never-ending looping maze. You WILL get lost if you don't have a map and are going for the first time. So pick up a map. There are rocks, clay, sand, roots, and a lot of trees. The "Spider Kingdom" is being expanded west and eventually it will reach the Gulf of Mexico. There are a lot of great climbs and decends. Too bad the park closes at sundown because night riding would be great. There are bathrooms and a nice picnic area in the center of the parking lot. There is a lot of variety and obstacles, and a lot less sand than Snohill.
