Jonathon Dickinson, and Markum Park in Broward are great

Review:

Nice section recently built along the eastern canal edge which added some excitement to the trail. The entrance to the new trail is where it says bypass. Sandy and flat at the end but overall much better and less sandy than old Cholee. Fun on a weekday afternoon. Set up for all ages and levels with bypasses around the palmetto roots sections which are pretty technical.

I recently revisited this trail, after some time off my bike. Why I was off my bike, still has me confused. Anyway, Some people have written that this trail is slow, too much sand etc... I tried this trail out before it technically opened, and your right, It was slow. Branches hitting me in the face. I swore I'd never go back! Until that day I cleaned the long section of Palmetto trees and now I'm hooked. If you can make it through this trail,X-pert sections and all, without dabbing, you are skilled my friend. This is not a fast trail, but it has less roots than Quiet Waters. It flows better now than a couple of months ago because of unrecognized trail maintenance. Props to the guys who build it. So You think your bike handling skills are pretty well mastered, do you? If that's the case, go ride this trail. Beginner trail, ahh......not really. Go through 3 times, and then collapse at the head of the trail. You know, so people can find you easier.

If you like roots and fallen trees and logs to ride over, this is the trail for you. This trail is very narrow in spots.First part has a lot of roots and is very tight. The last half has a lot of sand and many fallen trees to ride over. The trail is mostly flat with one nice 8ft drop. There is also some sand ridges along a canal the trail follows. The trail is not much fun and has a lot of deep sand. The trail seems not to have any maintenance done anymore. It needs work on sandy parts(mulch).

This was a fun little trail that was somewhat perfect for the person just getting into the sport. Its fairly new so who knows what it will blossom into in the future. There are some fairly tight sections and switchbacks, followed by elephant trunk type roots. I really enjoyed riding it for the first time even though I was not totally challenged. I love any kind of new trail, no matter how easy or difficult it may be. Its not very long but all you have to do is two laps and you are sweating. I give this trail a 3 star rating. Any one who wants to try trail riding, this is a great place to start.

Take Forest Hill Blvd. West to Pinehurst Road and go South. NOTE, you can now park in the new Freedom Park which is South of Okeeheelee on Pinehurst. This is much closer to the trailhead and a good place to wind down after a ride.

I decided to post an update to my first review since there is some news about the trail. Good news is that the park just North of the trail finally opened and has ample parking. The bad news is that in building the park, the bulldozers leveled a small (but noticeable) section of trail. As others have said, if the trail were longer and more challenging, this would probably go unnoticed. But this trail is short and flat for the most part. The section that got leveled had some of the more challenging sections. I hope the trail builders can reclaim some of the trail! Drop me a line if you need some help.

This is a update on the trail since my last review. As of today about a 1/4 of trail has water about 2" to 3" deep. There is no mud, water is over white packed sand, you can see thru water and still follow trail.Rode the trail and did not get my feet wet.Rest of trail is hard packed from the rain and is fast. There are a few more small trees that fell across trail but you can ride over them. The new Freedom Park to the north looks open so you might try to park there.

i rode here yeterday morning after not riding my bike for almost a month due to illness and travel. I was stoked when i first heard about this travel since we lost k mart and cholee simultaneously. Its a good trail for its length but i'm worried because after riding yesterday i see that it has become shorter since my last ride here. The part of the trail that used to exist after the tailwhip section is now destroyed. a relatively boring and flat trail has been rerouted around that section and leads to the opening in the middle of the trail. does anyone know why the trail was destroyed? It wouldn't seem so significant on a 15 mile trail but length on this trail is limited and every extra foot counts. anyway i hope this trail doesn't meet the same fate that k mart and cholee met. I'm moving to kansas city this week. i hear the trails there are pretty good. I hope this trail is still here when I come back to town to visit

Its a pretty good trail, very technical at the begining with a few spots to pick speed up, it's pretty flat but there are lots of logs and roots to go over with plenty swich backs, lots of fun and a great place to train. when it's dry sand it's pretty bad, but so is J.D. and quiet waters. Have fun

Well since this is the only trail i have ridden on, I dont have much to compare this too. Lots of tricky root sections and tight turns. Not much elevation changes, and the few there are tend to be right next to slopes into the water. Probably not a big deal for more experienced riders, but I almost fell in a few times heh. My enjoyment of the trail is pretty dependent on the condition of the sand. Rode it yesterday and the back tire was constantly fish tailing throughout the ride. If anyone knows how to contact the people responsible for maintaining the trail, shoot me an email. I would be glad to volunteer.

Review:

Open only a few months ago, its well marked trails span all skill levels from beginner to expert. The theme here is log jumping, so if you can't handle difficult log hops you'll have to stop and straddle multiple hazards. Even the beginner trail has a couple of tough log jumps. The advanced trail is tight and technical with turns, elavation changes and multiple hazards that will challange all but advanced riders. My riding skills have improved significantly from riding this trail and I used to ride K-Mart regularly. Between hazards there is plenty of room to open up and carry some speed. The expert trails have extended palm root trails that are very tough. Out of my league but I'll keep working on it.

There is room for improvement. To make it a premier track it could use more length and more elevation changes. (I really miss K-Mart). The last 3/4 mile has most of the sugar sand and is rather mundane. It consists of simple S-turns in fairly open terrain.

That being said I see improvement every week. They continue to mulch the sugar sand areas and since my last ride they added more advanced and expert sections with elavetion changes and more technical stuff. I commend the architects as they are doing a great job. Of course I may be biased because Pinehurst Trail is basically in my back yard.

OK, you boys want some cheese with that whine? I'm sick of you pansies always complaining about trails. notice it's the guys who complain who never ever help build that damn trails in the first place. Then they leave trash all over the place to boot. "....surgar sand, blah blah blah, too tight, blah blah blah..." SHUT UP!!! at least we have a trail to ride! so there's sand, THIS IS FLORIDA! FLORIDA IS SAND! so there's no elevation, FLORIDA IS FLAT YOU DOLTS! if you guys think the trials suck so bad around here why don't you move. Other wise, learn how to pedal smoothly, it makes sand no sweat. As for the trail itself:
I think it's a good start. I really like that fact that i can't go a bajillion miles an hour, it's nice to have to WORK on my ride for a change. tight is nice, or don't you guys surf porn sites....

2words sugar sand
WHAT I LIKED
no rocks so you can leave the knee pads in the car, some tight twisty sections, nice logs to go over, section on south near the river.nice signs, mulch
WHAT I DISLIKED
if your a big rider your going to have a hard time getting in between all the tree's the trail are very tight, sugar sand hill climbs, logs to big to ride over cassette keep hitting hard,no open strecthes to build alot of speed,no sick drop offs,no jumps,no brigdes,if your bike breaks it's a long walk back to the car,
WHAT NEEDS IMPROVEMENT
more mulch, maybe a bridge or see saw, nice big drop and ,maybe a water hose or water fountain??closet water is the river going to water plant(scared to see whats in it)??or at tennis courts at okeehele park just an idea..ifeel after time this park will get better

OK, I finally found the trailhead! The first 20 minutes of the trail were very tight...not a lot of places to pick up much speed. Whenever given the chance, I always took the Advanced or Expert route. Even so, not very challenging. Second half of the trail had more variety and more room to pick up some speed. Somewhat of a disappointment considering what Cholee used to be. But, hey, it's only 10 minutes from my house so I'll be back.

Starting off in the open and fades into the tight twisty trails such as "knee Banger" "Green acres Point" Lightning trail is just as twisty if you get in the proper gears!!! Reports of this trail being slow are not quite as accurate as one would think, speed is relative in these woods friends very tight and highly technical turns and obstacles lie in wait this is true but as well there is some beautifully sculpted singletrack dragstrips that gradually blend into the pucker phactor sections again. Not a bunch of elevation changes here but after all this is Floriduh. Truly this is a locally maintained trail and needs the riders that K-mart once had as well as the support, Ride it, build it, and tell your friends and tell em again Palm Beach County is back on the map my friends.
4 miles and growing!!!!!!! I give it 3 tires only because im honest about the trail itself i give it 10 because it is super close to my house!!!!!!!!! Ill probably upgrade my ratings to 4 maybe 5 after i live it and love it a little more

I missed the trailhead the first time too but luckily there are arrows every once in a while so the side entrance I found (past some burning wood) let me know I was going the right way. The trailhead is about 500 feet South of the locked up park gates. Look for colored flags strung out parallel to the street. About 15 feet in is a sign with trail skills levels. The trail itself was OK. Nothing too difficult except a couple places where the roots get a little crazy (the section in the SW corner is a lot harder). Not too hard to pick up some speed and the sand was navigable thanks to some mulch.

I rode this trail with my wife and one of my friends 2 weeks before its grand opening and to be honest we were kind of bummed. I hit the x-pert stuff with my friend and we cursed those damned ground palms, gave blood and went over the handlebars a couple times. But wait. I just got back from going there by myself and you know what? Every section of sugarsand has been mulched that needs it. The trail is faster than before. You might want to invest in a rock ring if you don't have one, or you can go to Hans Rey's site and he'll teach you how to hop all that stuff. Anyway, I must take my hat off to the guys developing this trail as it will make you really work to get through it. If you don't dab going through it at least twice I want you to show me the way. Oh yea, I got through one of the X-pert sections and I'm wishing I was back on that trail right now. Can we get one of those cool 3 ft high bridges that JDSP has? Five stars for the technical adventure.

This trail is very well put together and has alot of action for the short distance. Tight turns and narrow single track wont allow you to speed through this trail. I only hope this trail stays and dosent get bulldozed like cholee or 441. I can tell when the sugar sand gets soft this trail will be a workout. Pinehurst is worth checking out because it is tricky for 3.8 miles

The trail was at least 5 miles and it looked like there was more to come. There was a selction of trails for beginners all the way up to expert. Being a beginner, I found the beginner trail just as difficult. The course is very tight with ultra tight turns. There are billions of roots and logs along the way. Towards the end the trail leads into soft sugar sand that is unforgiving after you've been riding for 4 miles. It is well marked and some of the trails have names like "Thunder road" or "whip turn road" This course definetly tests your skills and believe me by the I made it out of there I was wishing I was a little more skilled. I spent most of my time bleeding. If anyone wants ride this trail let me know.
