use the directions i've provided on my trail listing. my apologies for posting this trail three times, MTBR must not like the hill 88 name. the trail leading up to hill 88 is legal for mountain bikes, the wolf ridge descent from the top is not, but we ride on it anyway.

the best thing i can recommend to any riders interested in trying this trail is to buy a map of the marin/mt tam area at thier LBS.

Review:

this is not a climb for novices. there are two or three particularly gut wrenching technical sections during the climb which may or may not keep even the most experienced riders off the bike. stay on the trail, as there is poison oak EVERYWHERE in the underbrush. this climb also includes a nice steep stairway which you must carry your bike up which is followed immediately by a short, steep loose climb that will give your anerobic fitness a true test. once you reach the top 9after a grueling steep road climb) you will be reqwarded at the top of hill 88 with sweeping views of the bay area and the pacific ocean. (we call this place Ice Station Zebra because it is very windy and cold most of the time) hill 88 is actually and old abandoned nike missle station, a decaying remnant of the cold war.

riders can connect hill 88 to the miwok stables by using the wolf ridge fire road to connect to miwok/old springs, but keep in mind that the wolf ridge fire road is CLOSED TO MOUNTAIN BIKES for no apparent reason, so ride down wolf ridge at your own risk. don't bring any novice riders along for the wolf ridge descent either, as it is steep, looose and riddled with huge waterbars. this is an ideal night ride.

Ice Station Zebra/Hill 88 merits my four star rating, due to its difficulty, the view at the top and connectability with other marin headlands rides.
