up tenderfoot and via railroad grade. then ride up eldridge grade to the top of tam. then go back down the way you came up.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
just ride whereever you can when ever you can and be happy that you're healthy enough to ride.

Review:

yes, HHEK is kinda boring. tam in general is'nt the greatest, but one must appreciate the historical significance of this area and ride it from time to time to pay homage to the Mountain Biking Powers That Be.

i don't remember HHEK as being all that fast. (why should it be with all of the HOHA's on tam?) i do recall it as being rolly in places and having goatfuXk climbs at the beginning and end. the climb at the railraod grade end is rocky, if i remember and the eldridge grade climb was smooth and steep. forgive me if i'm wrong, but i hav enot been on this fire road in a few years.

there's not a whole lot more i can write about HHEK. i live in the city, so i'm not particularly enamoured of the locals either, but my personal policy is to simply ignore them. if somebody has a red hot stick jammed up his or her butt, it's not my problem.

Mt Tam is an excelent place to ride but the hoo koo ee koo trail is probably the worst the Mt has to offer, it just sucks, and those big flys they have there bite wickedly. the locals are arrogant snobs, but thats just Marin.Ride Mt Tam but forget hoo koo ee koo.

Find your way to Mt Tam and get on to the HKEK fireroad. Look on a map, for the singletrack, you will see it is illegal to ride a bike on it.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
The trail immediately on the otherside of Corte Madera Fireroad, I think its HKEK meanders down to Larkspur. In the winter, waterfalls and more of that singletrak goodness. Also try Wagonwheel and all at Tamarancho. Try ZigZag and Tenderfoot off of Railroad Grade. Try China Camp.

Marin has the goods but you have to look.

Review:

If you aren't a ego-driven fool and can find the overlook on the HKEK fireroad to this beautiful singletrack you can see about 80 percent of the trail and the Corte Madera Ridge fireroad that connects the otherside for hikers. I am not endorsing this, but timing is important....(think about when no one is around)

Also remember that there are some very vocal hiker a$$holes in this area. Be courteous on the trails and ignore the snobs who can't ride anyways. The rangers are nice people, but will give you a ticket for this.

Get off 101 at Blithedale, if heading north on 101 go left over bridge and take Blithedale into Mill Valley. Keep going through town and look for a place to park.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Climb railroad grade to westport, and go west to route 1, follow route 1 south to Muir Beach, and go over the Ridge up to Tennessee Valley Beach. From Tennessee Valley take the road back to Mill Valley. Long ride but great views

Review:

The hoo hoo ee koo is an excellent ride - it gives you a taste of the headlands... I have been riding Tam for the last ten years and have just scratched the surface.

Recommended Route:
Follow Hw1 from SF. Follow signs to Mt. Tam.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Start early to avoid the hungover Mill Valley elitist snobs, hah, try buying a house in the city, friggin hicks.

Review:

Like the reviewer entertainingly described, the locals are a gritty lot. Rude, wholly unpleasant and for a bunch of wealthy country hicks not very friendly. Never mind though, during your decent from firewatch (old railroad grade?) station act like you are taken by surprised. I lock my front wheel and act offended that I almost plow into them. Lots of climbing. The chicks are really friendly (ask for directions). It is hot and sweating.

You can get a ticket. Follow the rules posted at the trailhead. you would be amazed at the arrogant bikers that act like they own the whole damn trail when decending! Whats there to be pissed about if you know the rules. As with most decending situations, look in the mirror when pointing your finger. I like to fly but I am wary on the sharp turns. All the trails are marked 15mph, 5mph around hikers and on the turns.

From the south (S. Francisco): Golden Gate Bridge.
From the East (Berkeley / Oakland): Richmond San Rafael Bridge. From the north (Oregon): come down US 101. From the West (Pacific Ocean): you can't ride the waves on a hardtail, stupid!

Review:

Despite previous reviewers' comments, this trail boasts some of the finest examples of sub-temperate native coastal vegetation south of the Cascades. The local variety of Xenocanthos Sporotracheus (wollybut gum tree)is, to put it mildly, awesome. And those green bushes withthe purple stamenotropes? Those are none other than hybrid dwarf Funucularis Titonopulus (sleepy-eyed bungweed). Breathtaking.

Careful on the southern downslope near the watertower -if you blink you will miss the magnificent grove of Suryioatropos Kumarensis (curryberry tree).

All in all, this trail rocks, and for all the right reasons. And by the way - you Marin natives could use a few lessons in manners. Or better yet: go back to Massachusetts where you came from, you posers!

If you say Hoo-Koo-EE-Koo sucks, you suck. The fire road with same name is where your weak ass belongs. Better yet, stick old railroad grade you twit. The only minus as far as the sinlge track goes, is its length. I hope people who don't belong in Marin in the first place never find this trail.

Review:

I The other review on this trail is bullshit. He is riding the firetrail, which is boring and un-exciting (redundent). But the actual HooKooEKoo, which the bike is named after, is awesome. Its got some cool drops, lots of places that beg to fling you off the side of the mountain, some sick bermed turns, high speed jumps, killer switchbacks. The only thing wrong with it is the $70 ticket you get if you ride it. Do it on a weekday, afternoon on a cold day.
