Park on Sir Francis and ride south along ridge. Tip the cows on the way. Love them, squeeze them!

Love this ride for some reason! Nothing great about it. But little traffic, very little traffic, makes it nice. Out and back ride. Start at S.F.D., and first half will be climb and second will be decent. Lots of quick, steep climbs, which for some reason aren't depressing. Worth the trip.

Review:

i have not been on the bolinas ridge since we did a sixty mile epic from tam, which incorporated the bolinas ridge trail. i think that might have been two years ago.

bolinas ridge is nothing but a long up-and-down fire road ride. there's really nothing spectacular about it. there's a few descents on which you will gain a good enough amount of speed to crash hard, if you really want to.

don't mess with the cows, either. i've heard of riders being chased by angry bulls.

as i wrote, this ride can be included in a loop starting in mill valley which will include a tenderfoot and a long, grim road ride from the northern end of this trail into fairfax. all in all, bolinas ridge is just an "ok" ride.

Started off Sir Francis Drake at the trail head 2 miles before Olema.

China Camp offers a better riding experience, but not as much climbing.

Review:

My wife and I had heard about the great views on this ride, plus it was over 20 miles, so we drove out from the East Bay.

The ride to the park is mainly up hill - all fire roads. There is a section where you are riding in the redwoods, but still fire road. There are no technical sections on this ride. The ride is just an out and back, so riding back you are going down hill.

This is not technical enough to be considerd mountain biking - I would call it a trail ride.

Regarding the "views" - I guess when people talk about the great views, that must have been when the trees where shorter - there are only a couple of places that you have any view at all.

I would not recommend doing this ride for the "views". It can be used as a good training ride if you are looking for a long steady climb without any technical riding.

Start at Samuel P. Taylor campground take bike trail west exactly 2 miles then open cattle gate (be sure to close gate behind you so you don't kill a road rider) oooops! Head up the Jewell trail straight up and up and up til you reach the ridge then let your breaks go as long as you can until you absolutely have to. ENJOY!

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Head the same bike route but eastbound 2 miles and you will reach the ultimate swim spot The Ink Wells.

Review:

Bolinas Ridge and Jewell Trails offer awesome views, shady dell riding and great downhills that make you forget the demanding uphill trek.

down hill? duh.

Review:

Hmm, lets see, slow downhill, enough uphills to kill momentum, and technical sections provided by cow crap. Plus my friend wrecked his frame when his wheel got snagged by a rut. Not very fun.

Start at the top of the Olema hill or in S.P.T. state park and ride the ridge to Fairfax-Bolinas rd. Then go twards Fairfax on the paved road until you hit Azalia Hill fire road that connects with the pine mountain trail. It's a nice long ride for a Sunday. Takes me about four hours of good, steady riding.

TOO MANY TO LIST!

Review:

This trail is not technical but offers great views and a bit of distance riding. Once you hit the forest canopy it gets a bit more interesting.

Easy ride, good for beginners, great views of Tomales Bay. Good uphill to go fast on since its not very steep. Fun and fast to go downhill vith a fun little jump at the end. Look out for some ripped pieces of denim where some fool made the pants to shorts conversion.

other routes: if you want to extend the ride- instead of starting on top of the hill...start at the ink wells. after you pass the lauganitas store driving down Sir Francis Drake, pull over at the first green bridge you come across. On the right and left sides of the bride are fire roads (these take you to kent lake). Take the one to the right, at the first fork go right, at the second go left then immediatly right. Long ass gut burning ride to the top of the ridge. Drops you off at the redwoods. From there you can ride down the ridge back to SFR, or turn around and go back down the way you came for a very fast downhill.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
Tamarancho, Mt Bald, Deer Park

Review:

great views on the ridge, sunsets and sunrise's are amazing...especially when the fog is rolling in over Tomales Bay. Some nice fast sections.

From San Rafael, drive out Sir Francis Drake Blvd. towards coast. Trailhead (left side of rd.) starts right before you get to the town of Olema. Takes about 30 minutes from the highway 101.

Other recommended trails in the same area:
You can start from Samuel P. Taylor park too. There are a few trails that drop off the main trail...haven't checked them out yet..

Review:

Ride starts with a series of uphill cardiovascular work-outs...Steer clear of the dairy cattle..be sure to close the gates behind you. Exposed fire road with great views of Tomalas Bay and West Marin hills. After about 5 miles, trail enters Redwoods. Continue riding through redwood grove until you reach the southern edge of the Bolinas ridge...with views of, as the name would suggest, the town of Bolinas. Trail begins to descend eventually reaching a parking lot...(I turn around once I reach the viewing area of Bolinas...no reason to continue the descent.) Double back the same way...a nice long ride...with some fun fast sections in the redwoods...and that uphill beginning becomes a great screaming downhill finish.
