45NRTH Arcwelder Tire

DESCRIPTION

When there's snow and ice between point A and point B, 45North's Arcwelder is the tire you want. At 2.1 inches wide, it's just the right size to push through the powder and find grip. That's where the 268 studs per tire come in—they bite hard where a regular tire would slip. And, the tall knobs are widely spaced to reduce snow and ice buildup.

Strength:

Wonderful tire, wonderful stud pattern, wonderful stud count. The grip starts impressively.

Weakness:

Stainless steel studs wear out in about 250 on mixed snow/ice and paved conditions.

Quite simply, there is NO reason to buy a tire with stainless steel studs. I didn't know any better and was thrilled when I got these. 270 mi later, they are just barely better than rubber as most of the studs are near flush. I'm considering replacing the studs with some Nokian Carbide tipped studs, but for the most part its cheaper to just get whole news tires. What a waste of money and waste of a great product with a fatal flaw.
