    Duration Product Used:2 Years
    Price Paid: $2000.00
    Purchased At:Randall Scott
Strengths:Great mix of parts. Strong frame, can handle anything, very surprised by how nice of a ride this has been. Rides more like a hard-tail (very efficient) but provides just the right amount of rear suspension.
Weaknesses:Although I can climb very well with the bike, the higher front-end makes steep, loose sections tricky. The front end wants to lift; if you move weight forward, the back-end doesn't want to hook-up. This is ONLY on REALLY steep areas.
Similar Products Used:Stumpjumper FSR; GF Sugar
Bike Setup:Stock mainly. X.O shifters, Thomson post and stem.
Bottom Line:IF you can still get one, I HIGHLY recommend it as a XC/AM ride. Rather than my back hurting after a ride, now I'm able to tax my muscles and lungs (the way it should be)! My descending skills have greatly improved as well as I no longer get bounced all over the trail.
Compared to the other designs out there, the Linear Link seems to work as designed; meaning no pedal bob, but engaged suspension when needed.

Strengths:Light (26.0 lbs medium) and good components. Climbs great. Quite fast. Very little pedal bob under the most taxing conditions. Kinda feels more like a HT with forgiveness rather than a squishy FS bike. After break-in, I've had no maintenance problems with this bike. Just right for XC.
Weaknesses:The R7 front shock spring seems light (I'm 170lbs), and I have to keep the air pressure a bit high to avoid brake dive. Other users haven't reported this, but although I think this bike is faster than my Razorback overall, I don't feel as fast in corners.
    Similar Products Used:Razorback, Titus Motolite
Bike Setup:Stock, except for Panaracer Fire XC Pro 2.1 on the rear wheel.
Bottom Line:Great bike, especially for the price! Recommended for XC or light AM use. It's really unfortunate that K2 dropped the super 4" travel Apache for the 5.5" travel Factory. Many of us prefer light and responsive over long travel! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this bike at it's current price ($1700 or so for the few that are left out there).

    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $2400.00
    Purchased At:REI and then upgraded
Strengths:Name it! When doing a complete review, I tend to lean toward reviewing the frame and how it mates to the front shock. The components can be tuned/upgraded by the individual. But, stock, I must say, the bike came with a top-shelf selection - the only skimp was going X9 on the shifters instead of X0 and a little heavier crank - but perfect if you want to ride hard.
The linear link really works - better than anything else out there. It keeps the rear hooked up in the gnarliest stuff yet allows climbing with ease and NO bob!
Weaknesses:Geometry is slightly off for me. I chose a size Large and still needed a 135 stem. I put on carbon flat bars as I'm not into the more casual riding set-up. With the large, standover can be an issue on an uphill dismount.
Similar Products Used:Turner Nitrous, Ventana El Salty, Titus Racer-X, Specialized Epic and a good ol' hardtail for climbing comparison
Bike Setup:Size L, X0 througout, AC350 disc, Juicy 7, WCS carbon bar, Syntace stem, SLR saddle, E-bones crankset
Bottom Line:As built, my size large weighed 22.9 lbs without pedals. It went over 23 with the peds and bottle cage. 23 lbs for a F/S that just rocks and is bomb-proof! Amazing. For the first time, someone (me) made it up a steep-twisty section on a local favorite ride. My buddies couldn't believe it! Neither could I as there big drops and roots and loose rocks and sand and, well, no one that we knew ever made it up in the 4 years we've ridden the hill. The Apache did! The bike helped me "cheat" the big lurches as I could compress the shock and use the rebound to help launch up the drops. Coming back down from the top was just as fun - although I was almost spent!
On a local 1 mile loop we use for time-trialing, I was able to drop under 3 minutes. This bike is just so smooth and easy to crank hard on. The best all-arounder I've found that can climb and go fast!
If you're into hucking, this probably isn't the bike. If you're into going fast and doing things you couldn't do before. Get one!

    Date Reviewed: March 20, 2007
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $2000.00
    Purchased At:Thru K2
    Strengths:Lightweight, component spec, lockout, brakes
Weaknesses:Fork is a little soft for me, but I think I need to upgrade the spring for my size (220lbs)
    Similar Products Used:2001 K2 Razorback, 1998 K2/Proflex 2000, 1999 Gary Fisher Paragon
    Bike Setup:Stock
Bottom Line:What a fantastic bike. I compete in adventure races and what a dream ride for those. Blew away the Razorback as far as comfort and agility in the technical terrain. Nothing will ever climb like the Razorback, but this one does pretty well. I would highly recommend this bike to any cross-country/weekend warrior.

    Purchased At:Bicycles Unlimited Greenfield, MA
Strengths:Incredibly effient, quick, elegant simple design. Aecthetically good looking bike. Climbs with the best oof the xc dualies, and descends better than any other xc dually I've been on. Really focused, intelligent parts selection-especially the juicy 7's and the am classic 350 wheelset
Weaknesses:none yet-durability can only be assessed over time-so we'll see. But so far the bike handles xc/technical xc with agility and aplomb
Similar Products Used:K2 razorback, Giant Trance, Iron Horse MKIII and Azure,
Bike Setup:Stock except I am using schwalbe Albert 2.25 tires and I swapped out the Manitou S-type Shock for a Cane Creek Cloud Nine (awesome with this low leverage design). oh, and I use shimano 540 pedals
Bottom Line:It's just nice to see a bike like this reach the mass market--simple effective, unapologetically "xc" bike with a stiff, clean 4 inches of front and rear travel. In the wake of countless multi-pivot virtual, imaginary, theoretical suspension wonders with their erector-set like appearences, I really applaud a bike like this that trumpets simplicity and precision and just plain looks like a bike (it looks great-much like a clean-lined racer x).

And though we're often chided these days by magazine market shills to not be weight weenies-my medium on the shop scale with pedals rang in at 26.3 pounds-and yeah, I notice the light weight going up hill and I appreciate it! With a stan's notube set up, and carbon cockpit parts you could get it sub 25 (but I'm stoked where it it is!).

It's as quick uphill as my razorback (which was a stellar climber) and it descends with confidence. Wonderfully balanced in slow, technical muddy-rooty rock sections. Great angles for hilly technical xc riding. Anyone looking for an all-purpose 'bike'-to go fast with should definately give the apache 6.0 a seriously look. It's what a bike should be--and not enough companies are putting out bikes lke this anymore! kudos k2!
