$1200.00 | | Purchased At: | Jakarta | | Strengths: | its single pivot so less maintenance... | | Weaknesses: | the weight compare to my previous giant XTC hard tail...but i am to0 (200kbs)
| | Bike Setup: | Front Shock: Rock Shock Tora 85 - 130 travel
Rear: Rock Shock Bar 2.1
XTR : shifter, brake lever, crank, RD
XT: FD, Hubs, sprocket, Chain, rims, brake rotors
Brake: Tektro mechanical
Frame size: 17
| | Bottom Line: | in my favourite tracks it ride a descent track with an ease (compare to my hardtail giant XTC)and I can still using it to go uphill by turning the front shock to 85mm travel.
It support my weight quite well and i still have confidence in hooping a small bump along the track

$600.00 | | Purchased At: | Biketown | | Strengths: | Great entry level XC full suspension bike. I got a good deal because it was an 06 model. Handles well and is reliable. Did lots of research before choosing this model. Upgrade of rear shock is recommended. | | Weaknesses: | Kind of heavy for an XC but what do you expect for 800 bucks. Front brakes take a lot of force to stop, which is why I replaced with some BB7s. | | Similar Products Used: | None | | Bike Setup: | -06 Haro Shift 3 -BB7 brakes -Rockshox MC 3.2 rear shock -Revalation front dual air fork -Specialized G2 saddle -Weirwolf 2.3 tires
| | Bottom Line: | I purchased this bike as a starter XC bike. As you see on my setup, its a total different ride now. Next upgrade will be a set of Mavs. This bike takes a beating and keeps rolling. I would recommend utilizing this bike as a good starter and upgrading the components slowly. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$770.00 | | Purchased At: | matzman-merutz | | Strengths: | Strong frame, good level components, great for XC beginners. | | Weaknesses: | Lousy fork (RockShox J2) - no adjustments at all and is very heavy (some parts are steel), lousy mechanical brake at the front (need to apply large amount of power for braking). slightly heavy for XC. | | Bike Setup: | Haro Shift R3 set up, see Haro's website for 2006 model | | Bottom Line: | Bike is great for beginners who want full suspension XC bike and are short in money. Bike are very fast and sometimes when riding with others I didn't know whether it is the bike or my good fitness (when trying others bikes - I guess it is both...). After few months I replaced the front mechanical brake to Avid Juicy 5 (hydraulic) and the fork to RockShox Recon 351 that improved bike behaviour dramatically when riding singles. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$700.00 | | Purchased At: | Zamboanga Traders | | Strengths: | It is a single Pivot All Mountain bike, strong and versatile. No Ghostshifting, it is not a hydraulic-i hate hydros no offense to hydro users but it is good for cars only. Nice paint. It is a hydroform frame meaning it is very strong yet light. | | Weaknesses: | The Pedal, must be replaced by a BMX type platform pedal I guess. The rear shocks must be tuned up well to your weight to avoid pedal bobbing. | | Similar Products Used: | None so far, a newbie except for my few first mall bikes. | | Bike Setup: | just like the others, see haro Shift 3 set up on www.harobikes.com | | Bottom Line: | I'm a newbie in the world of MTB and this is my first babe, for almost a year of riding it, I haven't replace any parts of it inspite that the trails I'm riding with is a Hell Trail. This might be my beginners bike and also my semi advance bike, still running, rolling, climbing and sometimes, jumping. Hurray!!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$650.00 | | Purchased At: | Cartimar LBS | | Strengths: | The set up is perfect for the job, not expnsive but can do the XC job. Easy to pedal and is a good climber and descends smoothly. | | Weaknesses: | It is a heavy XC bike. ( But who cares anyway ) | | Similar Products Used: | NRS 3, BIXS Hardtails, Jamis Komodo FX | | Bike Setup: | R3 Shift set up, see Haro website for details | | Bottom Line: | If you're on tight budget and wants to pedal the XC way, well I highly recommend this bike, it is very reliable, easy to maintain and nice to ride. A real "good friend" on the or off the road. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$760.00 | | Purchased At: | piek performance | | Strengths: | light, easy to handle, exellent bike for a begginer | | Weaknesses: | not strong enough for all mountain riding, brakes are noisy and jumpy | | Bottom Line: | If you are just starting to ride its a good bike but you will eventually need a tougher bike. the price is far too much for this bike so a begginer should not go for this bike. i would recomend an iron horse worrior | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

from Single Track, NC, US of A Date Reviewed: October 19, 2006 | | Favoriate Trail: | The next one... | | Duration Product Used: | Tested or demo'ed only | | Strengths: | Comfort in the saddle, ability to handle rooty single track, responsive handling | | Weaknesses: | Brakes were jumpy and loud, noisy headset | | Similar Products Used: | Giant Trance, GT Zaskar, Specialized Stumpjumper | | Bike Setup: | Weird LBS set-up: Manitou Black fork and Radium rear shock, Shimano XT grouppo, stupid platform pedals (thanks for the shin dig, guys) | | Bottom Line: | I purchased a Haro Sonix VL120 based on reviews and a test ride around my LBS parking lot, but I had to order a 16" so it's not in yet. For the heck of it, I took out the Demo Shift for a very wet and muddy day at a local municipal. Anyone that rides in North Carolina knows that we are the freakin' Root Capital of the known universe, and the Shift was surprisingly well suited for the day's ride. I love my clipless pedals. I cringe every time I get on a bike without them, but I rode the Demo with platforms. My mistake, as the first thing I did was hit a bump and catch a few feet of air time. On landing, I painfully realized I had lost footing on my drive side pedal and BAM!!! - shin dig. Nice little souvenir to show the guys, though. At any rate, I didn't once have any saddle issues as the bike offered a pretty darn smooth ride and the suspension ate the technical rooty single track up. Even though the bar was about a half inch long for me on both sides, I was impressed with how responsive the bike was. This is a testament to the geometry. Bummer about the Avid Juicy brakes, though. They were ultra-grabby and a bit scary at times (though I concede if I had more than one afternoon to get used to them, they would have done the job just fine). The Aheadset steerer unit was screaming like a noisy cricket practically the whole time. That sucked. At any rate, I am stoked knowing that I purchased and will soon ride a bike that's WAY better reviewed and spec'ed than this one. I like the Fork and Shock, and that's what's coming on my ride, so... cool! I wonder if the Magura brakes I have been reading so much about are worth the money - anybody know? Later... | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$750.00 | | Purchased At: | Sun & Ski | | Strengths: | Heavy duty but light, quality components, and takes a beating. | | Weaknesses: | No lockout on front fork or rear shock. Stock tires do not handle mud very well. | | Similar Products Used: | None. | | Bike Setup: | Stock setup with the exception of a larger seat for my fat butt. | | Bottom Line: | I had not rode a bike since 1987 when I was a teenager and in the time since I have become quite fat. I like to run but with my new set of tires around my middle I find it hard to hit the track for very long without my knees taking a beating. I remember enjoying riding my old Redline BMX bike and figured I'd give riding a shot. I knew up front that I wanted a bike that could ride off roads as well as on the street and would be able to support my 240 pounds. I'm not the type of person who buys cheap components but I also didn't want to spend tons of money on a bike until I was sure I would enjoy riding again. I checked out all the stores around town and read every review possible before I settled on the '06 Haro Shift R3. It offered all the amenities I wanted like a rear shock, disc brakes, and a sturdy frame all for less than a grand including tax. The local Sun & Ski had a sale and I liked the fact that they offer free tune-ups for as long as you own the bike.
I've since owned the R3 for over 6 months and I've been extremely impressed with it's performance. I've tackled beginner, intermediate, and even a super technical trail (by accident!) and it's taken it all in stride. I have yet to actually crash even once and I have to admit it's not due to my riding ability but more so to the fact that it stops on a dime and will go over most anything I throw in it's path. Many times I've gone the wrong direction on a trail to be confronted with a good sized drop that I'm not comfortable hitting. I'm sure my landings are not up to spec but the bike absorbs the hit and keeps on going. I keep waiting for my 240 lbs to destroy this frame but there's not one sign of stress anywhere on the bike. The rear X-Fusion shock does a great job of keeping vibrations off my butt which allows me to ride much further than I ever thought I could without soreness. The front Judy J2 fork is obviously not designed for a rider of my weight but still performs exceptionally well. I only wish the J2 had a lockout feature for when I'm riding down the street or on a flat, easy trail. The rear shock does have a rebound adjustment but a complete lockout feature would be nice. Going up steep hills there is some minor pedal bob but againt that could be due to my heftiness.
I would reccomend this bike to anyone who's interested in riding beginner to intermediate trails but probably not for very technical rides. I'm no expert but I don't think the R3 could handle 4' plus drops unless the rider was a lightweight.
So far not one component has offered any trouble and I have rode it daily and logged at least 1000 miles. Only the occasional flat tube have kept me out of the saddle and only for a few minutes. If and when my skills allow me to try XC racing I will buy a higher end Haro for sure! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$669.00 | | Purchased At: | Tempe Bicycle | | Strengths: | Am a heavy rider, 250 lbs, and have had no problem riding over rocky terrain and short, 2.5 ft, drops. Feels stable going down hill over Arizona's rock laden trails. Good value for the money. | | Weaknesses: | Bike's heavy, 30 pounds, but what the heck, so am I. Have had to take back to LBS to several times to have derailleur adjusted as I get chain skip under torque. They assure me it's because cables are new and stretching. | | Bike Setup: | Stock: Aluminum frame, J2 Judy RockShox, X-Fusion coil rear shock SRAM X.7 9-speed trigger shifters Hayes disc brakes
| | Bottom Line: | Needed entry level mountain bike, under a "K", to satisfy my adrenaline craved midlife crisis, 46 years old. Am just a beginner but that doesn't last long on South Mountain trails here in Phoenix, AZ. Am getting more aggressive and after 3-months, bike is hold in up well. Have hammered her pretty hard over rock-gardens, and short drops, during hot dusty rides. Other than typical adjustments, derailleur, brakes, tires, bike is stellar. Will report back in 6-months. Recommend this bike to anyone just starting out who has delusions of Red Bull Free Ride Championship. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
