Description:The ultimate full-suspension racing bike is here. Using Orbea’s incredible knowledge of composites and alloys we have created a bike that gets 3 inches of travel and weighs pounds less than the competition. The Oiz front triangle is built from a proprietary scandium-enhanced tubeset that is tuned to balance weight and efficiency. The rear uses an amazingly light carbon chainstay that flexes to give the Oiz its travel. It is a design that uses the natural properties of carbon to minimize drivetrain and brake influence on the suspension.

Duration Product Used:1 Year
Purchased At:Get a Grip Cycles
Strengths:Light weight, great handling, unique
Weaknesses:Integrated headset, no full carbon in the US that I can find
Similar Products Used:Felt RXC
Bike Setup:REBA Team, X.0, DT Swiss wheels
Bottom Line:I love this bike. I've gained much needed confidence and speed since getting it. It weighs about the same as my Felt, but has 3 in of rear travel to smooth out the trail.

I absolutely love this bike. The only thing I'd change when purchasing would be to get the full carbon model.

Thanks to Get a Grip Cycles in Chicago for sponsorship!

Date Reviewed: January 18, 2007
Duration Product Used:6 months
Purchased At:Paradigm Cycles
Strengths:Very Light and laterally stiff.
Weaknesses:Not as smooth as some designs. This is not a trailbike.
Similar Products Used:Intense Spider, Specialized Epic, Ventana El Fuego
Bike Setup:Manitou R7, Crossmax's, flat bars, V-brakes
Bottom Line:This is a lightweight XC racing bike with 85mm of travel. It is great at what it is designed for, racing. My bike built up a little over 23 lbs with pedals. Which is only about a pound more than my ti hardtail. It climbs as well or better as any XC bike I have ridden. With the rear suspension active, there is very little loss to bob, and if the climb is smooth, lock the handlebar mounted lockout and climb like a hardtail. It will handle any descent you're going to find at your typical XC race. The cockpit is long and the handling stable. 85mm of travel soaks up the smaller chatter and takes the edge off the bigger hits, but won't eliminate them. Some people want to compare this to the Scalpel because of the flexing carbon main pivot, but note that the OIZ has a Horst link (rear pivot on the chainstay in front of the rear axle) and thus a more linear and slightly rearward travel path, like a Specialized 4-bar (FSR). I like this system much better than the Scalpel's "single pivot." A great race bike.

Date Reviewed: December 16, 2006
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
Strengths:Lightweight full suspension bike, excellent climbing, excellent acceleration for a fully, good stability, stiffness of the frame, no pedal kick back
Weaknesses:Limited slope of the frame, limited space between rear tire and the frame
Bike Setup:XTR, reba race poplock, XTR wheels, XT disk brakes
Bottom Line:The stiffness and the acceleration of the bike are superb and with the 85 mm rear suspension you can remain seated on technical trails. This is an excellent bike for marathons or technical XC racing. In addition you have lifetime guarantee of the frame.

I have always had excellent service of my LBS and I cannot understand the complaints of the Greek bikers.

Purchased At:Contender Bicycles
Strengths:Very lightweight, less moving parts. Climbs extremely well. Fairly stable descender with 100mm Fox fork and the addition of Gravity Dropper post. This slackens the head angle by a degree and makes the bike a bit more stable. I'm not a fan of Manitou, but the S-type rear shock's adjustments work very well and seem to have a wider range of adjustability than an RP23. This frame is made in Spain and not shipped over to Taiwan-a very nice touch.
Weaknesses:Zeus carbon bars scratch very easily as do any carbon parts. Headset isn't sealed very well and is integrated so options are limited.
Similar Products Used:Santa Cruz 'Superlight', Ellsworth 'Truth', Rocky Mountain 'ETSX-70', Titus 'Moto-Lite'
Bike Setup:'06 XL frame, '07 Fox F100, Manitou S-type shock, '07 XTR crankset and SRAM X0 shifters, cassette, chain, Mavic CrossMax SL's, Kenda 2.1" tires, Avid Juicy Carbons, Gravity Dropper 3" drop post, WTB Devo saddle.
Bottom Line:The bike really moves and with the addition of the 100mm fork it is fairly stable on steep and sketchy terrain. Responds very well to out of the saddle sprints. Doesn't have the feeling of any slop in the rear end, I don't feel any side to side flex even at 200lbs fully geared up. My only real complaints are I don't care for integrated headsets and would like to have the option of putting a King headset on the bike. The marring on carbon products can take away from the bling factor of a bike of this caliber.
It's also nice to be able to order derailleur hangers and other parts online from Orbea. The lifetime warranty on the frame is a nice addition as well.

Date Reviewed: September 26, 2006
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Cheaper than the Scalpel. Suposed to be light
Weaknesses:Unstable in cornering. Easy to break (mine has and no support from dealer).
Similar Products Used:Ideal Race Pro, Specialized M5 HT, Specialized Epic
Bike Setup:Shimano XTR, Mavic Crossmax, Ritchey components
Bottom Line:Looks very much like the Cannondale, but from a brand that has only made a little name in road cycling. Those guys have no experience in MTB or XC. After having tryied both Oiz and Epic in same course i was much faster and stable on the Epic. The weight even though the Oiz is claimed to be lighter it was the same. My Oiz frame broke by a little rock that was lifted by the wheel at the carbon part and is not covered under warranty.

I give it 1 chili for the value as it only last a period and is not a serius brand and 1 chili for the support and handling.

Favoriate Trail:St. George at Parnitha mtn.
Duration Product Used:6 months
Price Paid: $1700.00
Purchased At:www.cycliststore.com
Strengths:Great rear end stifness and no bobbing. The bonding of the rear carbon chainstay adds to the coolness factor of the frame. Light for a full sus bike.
Weaknesses:None that i can think of.
Similar Products Used:Specialized Epic S-works, Giant XTC, Scott Genious RC.
Bike Setup:Full Sram X.0, Fox 100RLT fork, XTR crankset, DT wheelset.
Bottom Line:Bottom line is that while i tested many bikes and reviewed several others, the guys at www.cycliststore.com were more than helpfull to fit me properly on my new bike. As they are cyclists themselves, they really know what they are doing and most important they have respect for the customer. IMHO its the best bike shop in Greece!

PS. as far as to the unhappy customer all i can think of is that he must be some really angry competitor

Favoriate Trail:Boulder
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $3500.00
Purchased At:Colonels
Strengths:Climbs like a space shuttle
Weaknesses:None that I can think of.
Similar Products Used:Bontrager Racelite, Santa Cruz Superlight.
Bike Setup:Avid-Truvative-Sram, Mavic Crossmax SL, Manitou R-7
Bottom Line:The guy from Greece is entitle to his opinion, and every story has two sides, but I am extremely impressed with this frame. It turns like great in tight stuff, and decends well enough to give plenty of cross country racing confidence. I have noticed the way the rear end is set up it tends to foster no suspension bob out of the sandle climbing. The only thing that bumbs me out is that they are about to release a full carbon version. It is not a comfortable suspension setup, but I did not want comfort, I wanted and efficient race bike and that Orbea has more than delivered on my hopes.

Date Reviewed: September 6, 2006
Duration Product Used:3 months
Strengths:Very light and perfect for XC racing. Climbs very well.
Weaknesses:Remote lockout for rear shock difficult to use. Not alot of standover for 17" frame size.
Similar Products Used:Yeti AS-R, Titus Racer-X
Bike Setup:OIZ frame, Reba Team 85mm, DT Swiss wheelset, etc.
Bottom Line:I think the other reviewer may have an axe to grind with his local dealer. That's a shame, because this is an excellent frame for XC racing and it is plenty stiff for what I have ridden so far. Can't speak for long-term durability yet, but will post a detailed review after spending more time on it. This bike climbs great and responds very quickly in tight singletrack. It is not quite as confident downhill as my Yeti AS-R, but climbs better in most situations.

Favoriate Trail:Tatoi - Vasilika
Duration Product Used:1 Year
Price Paid: $2500.00
Purchased At:www.cyclist.gr
Strengths:It is light
Weaknesses:Expensive, Flexy, unreliable
Similar Products Used:GT arrowhead, GT avalance, Raleigh, IDEAL RACE PRO (way better than ORBEA)
Bike Setup:Asw it came from the shop (ORBEA's dealer in Greece)
Bottom Line:This bike is just for the shop window. Ok, of you are a poser & you have the extra cash go & get it.
But in the real world this bike just can't handle the abuse of a XC race, especially in the rocky terrain of Greece.
The bike is handling like if the whole frame is twisting from every axle possible.... Thisis especiall notisable when turning hard in high speed or if you'll try to clear a rocky section.
Also, very Imporant:
ORBEA's dealer in Greece should be your last choise of a bike shop. These guys have nothing to do with... biking!
Bad (really bad) altitude
Bad service
No support at all for the products they import.

My advice.
IF YOU HAVE TO HAVE A ORBEA JUST DON'T GET IT FROM CYCLIST.GR. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED!
