$1099.00 | | Purchased At: | Richardson Bike Mart | | Strengths: | Great frame (Platinum Series ZR9000 Aluminum, and carbon seatstays), good components mostly Bontrager and Deore, and it looks as smooth as it rides. The brakes (Avid FR-5) though not Disc will get you out of a moderate jam. | | Weaknesses: | The Manitou Splice Comp, 100mm is in need of an upgrade. The adjustable levers on the shock are made of plastic rather than aluminum. The bike could also use Disc Brakes to bring it up to date with other mid level full suspension bikes. | | Similar Products Used: | I seriously looked at the Jamis Dakar Sport for 1,100.00$ which is a great bike and a great buy, but I can't say much for the color choice... But in the end I liked the Fisher better than the Jamis although the Jamis had fox rear suspension and disc brakes. | | Bike Setup: | I'm upgrading the Splice fork to a Fox F100 which is a much better front suspension set up. | | Bottom Line: | The bike would be perfect if it came with Disc Brakes and Fox Full suspension! Once a few upgrades are made the bike is ready to go anywhere and do anything! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$1500.00 | | Purchased At: | Scoreboard (RIP), Gallup NM | | Strengths: | Stan's(Scoreboard RIP) magic to get me a deal!! Genesis geometry for stretched out positioning. Value for bike setup. Handling. V-brakes as I really didn't see a need for the disc brakes for almost exclusively XC dry riding. One of the few mid level bikes without disc brakes. All day rideability. Just did dawntilduskride.com for 6 hours and 50 miles as part of two man team over 12 hours. | | Weaknesses: | Could be a little lighter, but not too bad for a $1500 FS. Would like a rear lockout. Still having a little trouble climbing the super steeps, but huge improvement over the moderate climbs compared to my hardtail. | | Similar Products Used: | Jamis XC Comp, Jamis Dakar 2.0, Specialized Epic, Specialized Stumpjumper FSR, Santa Cruz Blur, Giant NRS, Cannodale FS's, GT FS's, | | Bike Setup: | XT rear d., LX front d., LX shifters, Manitou Skareb with lockout, eggbeater pedals. Which places it somewhere between the Cake 3 and Cake 2. All else stock, with the seat, seatpost, bars, grips, rims, tires, hubs, cranks, bb, avid/shimano levers. All these remaining stock items are the same as Cake 3. | | Bottom Line: | I would by this bike again, easily. I might put more money into initial upgrades, like a new Manitou RSeven fork or chromoly egg beaters, XT front d. I would recommend this bike for some who has a long upperbody and/or likes the stretched out Genesis geometry, not found on other bikes from major manufacturers. I thought it was a great value, particularly with the upgrades. It is stable in the corners, handles good in the technical sections, climbs all but the super steeps with ease. I was told there was a month or some of transition needed between riding a hard tail and learning how to get used to a FS, but I did not find that at all with this bike. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
