from COLORADO Date Reviewed: October 18, 2005 | | Favoriate Trail: | TELLERUIDE | | Duration Product Used: | 6 months | | Purchased At: | wrenchscience | | Strengths: | Very light, really nice suspension design, no bob, 80mm of travel feels more like 100. TOUGH AS HELL!!! i took it to tahoe on beat the $*&^ out of it, and after a near-fatal crash, not even a dent on the frame! i also have a custom paint job, midnight blue fading into black. Very nice, indeed! | | Weaknesses: | loooooong waiting time. IT TOOK 3 MONTHS JUST TO GET THE STUPID FRAME, even though i ordered it as a complete bike form wrenchscience (whats with that???) | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Epic, M5 HT Disc, Cannondale Scalpel Team Replica, etc. | | Bike Setup: | 2006 Sram esp x.0 trigger shifters with sram x.0 rear der. and shimano xt front der., race face deus x-type cranks, ritchey wcs logic stem + headset, custom built stans no tubes wheelset on dt swiss hugi 240 hubs, frox float 80 rlt fork, wtb racing tires, moots titanium seatpost, answer hyperlite carbon handle bar Total weight: 22.79 pounds wsith pedals !!! | | Bottom Line: | this bike cannot be matched. the 80mm of travel on the rear is just the perfect amount, and the frame is very light (5.2 pounds for a size large). this bike is better than my epic, in terms of both climbing and descending. GET THIS BIKE NOW!!! | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$2500.00 | | Purchased At: | Diamond Cycle | | Strengths: | light, quick steering, easy handling | | Weaknesses: | bottom bracket awfully low, expensive, long wait for delivery | | Similar Products Used: | Santa Cruz Superlight, Trek Fuel | | Bike Setup: | Fox 80mm fork, tubeless tires, Fox rear shock, disc brakes | | Bottom Line: | Yes, it took forever for Dean to deliver the frame -- six months of lame excuses. So don't order if you are in a hurry. But, after finally getting the bike and using it for half a season, I can say the wait may have been worth it. The bike is very light and stiff, which makes for quick handling on the trail -- very easy to pop up over or around obstacles, climbing is much easier, too. The one problem I have found is that the bottom bracket seems lower than other bikes I've ridden, which makes for less pedal clearance on the trail. It's also pretty darned expensive, but again, it may be worth it see as it handles better than any other bike I've ridden. I bought this bike for x-c racing and it's perfect for that -- not the kind of bike you want for weekend hacking around (too expensive) or hucking off big drops (not enough travel), though. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$4800.00 | | Purchased At: | Dean USA | | Strengths: | Light and agile. It both climbs and descends well. Beautiful welds. True FS race bike. | | Weaknesses: | $$$$, extremely poor customer service for a bike that costs almost 5k. | | Similar Products Used: | Specialized Epic Pro, Klein Mantra Carbon Race, Klein Adept Race, Klein Attitude, Trek Fuel 100, Rocky Mountain Instinct | | Bike Setup: | XTR Group, SID World Cup, XTR Disc, Mavic 317 | | Bottom Line: | Dean USA was very unresponsive. Shipment was delayed over a month and when it was shipped they had left out a few parts, swapped parts unbeknown to me, and shipped no documentation or bill of sale. I love the ride but can't recommend buying from Dean because they don't seem to have the time for their customers. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |
