    Favoriate Trail:la costa
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $25.00
    Purchased At:beyond bikes
Strengths:light, cheap (at least when I bought it), is actually a 2.35 tire that is UST
Weaknesses:Not strong as a front tire
    Bike Setup:2006 RM Slayer
Bottom Line:Tire is fine, much better then the 2.1 UST kendas, but had a hard time getting it to mount. It washed out alot on simple turns, never gave me much confidence to really peg it downhill. I think it has more to do with the tread pattern and the kind of dirt Im riding on here in socal. I tried different pressures, but ultimately this was not the kind of tire for my kind of all mountain riding, maybe better for a x-country type of day.

Strengths:Light weight, fairly inexpensive, easy to mount and oh yeah, They look soooo good!
    Weaknesses:Haven't found any yet
    Similar Products Used:Maxxis Crossmark
    Bike Setup:Epic Pro
Bottom Line:I was a bit concerned when I first purchased these tires based on the reviews I read however, I've been pleasently surprised with the good all around performance of these tires. Living on the east side of the mountains in Wa. it's wet rocky and rooty most of the year. I've been riding Nevegals which are good tires but seem to let go suddenly when making sharp leaning turns leading to a lot of unexpected yard sales. Bottom line with reduced tire pressure 27-30 psi These tires will completely out perform the nevvies I once rode.

    Favoriate Trail:Cottonwood
    Duration Product Used:1 Year
    Price Paid: $45.00
    Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Generally good traction and cornering in dry conditions.
Weaknesses:I can't get them to last for more than a few rides. The casing is seperating from the tread and the rubber is bubbling, which causes the tire to fail. My LBS has warrantied several tires, but I'm now going to use a different tire after at least five failed Ignitors.
Bike Setup:99 Klein Attitude Race with 06 XT components
Bottom Line:Don't use this tire if you ride in rocky areas, as I think this might be what's causing this tire to fail in my situation.

    Duration Product Used:3 months

Strengths:Tresd is grippy in loose and hardpack, did well in mud
Weaknesses:not symetrical, wobbles at high speed
    Similar Products Used:continental, panaracer
    Bike Setup:2006 ellswoth epiphany
Bottom Line:I like these ties, but they wobble. I have ridden them a couple of months now and the wobble has not gone away and it may be too late to send them back. You can run your hand on the inside of the tire and feel the sections of the casing that are not uniform. very aggravating at high speed to see the front tire shake from side to side, and not very safe either on downhill sections. I do really like the tread though as it hooks up on every type of terra firma on which I ride, but I am still going to rate these tires low. I paid premium price for these at $45 US a tire, and for them to be malformed is, in my book, inexcusable for a compnay with a great reputation like Maxxis.

    Favoriate Trail:National, trail 100
Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $50.00
    Purchased At:DNA cycles
Strengths:Roll pretty fast and great climbing traction
    Weaknesses:very, very, very small for a "2.35" tire...it is really a 2.1 and a little pricey
Similar Products Used:Kenda Nevegal 2.1 UST, Specialized Adrenaline 2.1 UST
Bike Setup:06 Stumpjumper Sworks XL, Chris king laced on 817 disc hoops, Fox Talas RLC
Bottom Line:I picked these tires up after being disappointed with the Kendas (see my review on those if you are so inclined) and not overly thrilled with the Spesh Eskars (little big and slow). I had originally ordered the 2.1 size of this tire only to find it was skinny, anorexic would be a better description. I have seen 1.9's bigger. I traded them for the 2.35 version which is the same aspect ration as the Advantage 2.1, Nevegal 2.1, Specialized 2.1 (52/559)...so I guess it is safe to say the 2.35 is really a 2.1. Ok with that said, I am quite happy with how well they roll for a pretty nobby tire and the cornering and nimbleness of these tires is really great. I am most pleased that the climbing traction which was second to no other 2.1 tire I have run...They hook up well in the desert terrain and also hold very well on technical descents. I guess my only "gripe" with them is that Maxxis needs to be more consistent with their sizing so that the customer knows what they are getting...So, who should buy it...aggressive x-country/ trail riders...who shouldn't...someone looking for a true 2.35 tire...

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $60.00

Strengths:Rolls better than I thought it would
    Weaknesses:Doesn't grip!
Similar Products Used:Intense System 4 (much, much better, but not tubeless)
    Bike Setup:Intense 5.5. Pikes.
Bottom Line:I was looking for a new Tubeless tyre for aggresive trail riding after my supply of High Roller UST 2.1's dried up. This tyre was recommended to me, but I am thoroughly disapointed. I don't really see the point in this tyre - it just doesn't grip in corners!!! Sure, some tyres 'drift' but this doesn't have any predictable grip or drift qualities, it just slides! I think Maxxis have let themselves down with this offering. Give them a wide berth if you like your tyres to grip!!

    Price Paid: $45.00
    Purchased At:online
Strengths:good grip, easy to install, holds air well(using bontrager sealant), hasnt punctured
Weaknesses:only minor weakness is it doesnt feel as grippy on rocks as a crossmark - buts its very minor
    Similar Products Used:maxxis crossmark
Bike Setup:only used it on the front, crossmark on the rear
Bottom Line:I use it as a front tire with a crossmark on the rear. It works really well in a variety of trail conditions (except not much mud where i am so cant comment on that). Perfect for a trail rider in 2.1 size LUST version. I didnt like the crossmark on the front and have kept it on the rear - its a perfect combo for the average trail rider

    Date Reviewed: January 29, 2008
    Duration Product Used:6 months
    Price Paid: $47.00
    Purchased At:Cambria
    Strengths:Good traction over everything I've ridden;
    Good all around tire;
    Weaknesses:Moderate rolling resistance;
    Not really lightweight tires (UST 2.1 size);
Similar Products Used:Panaracer Fire XC, Michelin DryXC2
Bike Setup:Giant XtC Hardtail; Mavic UST/Hope wheelset
Bottom Line:I live in the WA desert & trails are hardpack dirt with some sand and rocks (except during winter when there can be mud). These tires were purchased on a local recommendation and haven't disappointed. I replaced the Michelin DryXC with these and all my traction problems have vanished! I have tremendous confidence going into corners and climbing rocky ascents. On a few trips to the mountains they were excellent over roots and more extensive rocky areas. I have not flatted (about 35 psi) and use Stans to seal the thorns even though they are UST tires on UST rims.

That leads to the only (relatively small and expected) weakness - the rolling weight and resistance. Switching to these tires from the Michelins was a bit of a shock! The M's were so fast and rolled so smoothly (just look at the knobs and you can see why) that most likely any tire would suffer in comparison, however I'll just say that the Ignitors are not that light nor do they roll that smoothly.

Still give them 4 peppers for the fine all around performance, I never need to think about my tires...

    Purchased At:LBS
Strengths:Easy to pop up on the rim, wish more tires were as nice as Maxxis tires are to get on, light weight for a UST, excellent in deep sand, it just seems to float
Weaknesses:The knobs just seem to dig into soft dirt and rocky loose soil during braking, they just seem to cause lock ups, then I had issue with keeping the proper line, had issue with predictably of how the tire was going to react, not an inspiring tire
Similar Products Used:Maxxis Advantage 2.1, Schwalbe Alberts 2.25

Similar Products Used:nevegal, minion, michelin, specialized, etc.

Duration Product Used:Less than 1 month
    Price Paid: $35.00
    Purchased At:online somewhere
Strengths:Not especially heavy for a tubeless, pretty good as a front tire, good mud shedding, held ok on rocks and roots, fair on loose dirt over hard pack, good on soft ground/little muddy, rolls as well as my fast tracks (good)
Weaknesses:small air volumer for a 1.95, defintatly should have gone with the 2.1, over 100g heavier than advertised
    Similar Products Used:specialized fast track
Bike Setup:'05 specialized epic comp, some upgrades, mavic crosstrail ust rims, ritchey excavader ust as a rear tire (i highly recommend them, see review)
Bottom Line:It mounts just fine, no problems. An ok front tire, can't say for the rear but the tread pattern suggests it would be OK AT BEST as a rear tire in wet/muddy conditions, but i can't say for sure, i wish i had the bigger 2.1s. They have a good shape to them for leaning into fast turns with confidence, they have only slipped on me once in a high speed turn on loose over hardpack (it was ugly), but i can't say any other tire would have held any better. It definitely holds a little better than my fast tracks did, which i consider a good tire. For the weight weenies out there, they are advertised at 635g for the 1.95, mine weighed in at 750g! Bottom line is i would prefer a lighter/wider version of this tire for the front, but it holds pretty well, especially for a 1.9.

Bottom Line:I have Mavic 823's and this tire just looks puny.

The tire went on the rim very easy without levers. I was able to seat it without soap and with a hand pump. This tire really hooks up in loose gravel and on hardpack. I was trying to get the back to break loose in some turns but to no avail.

It is a good tire just small for my taste.

Strengths:Lightweight Ultimate Sidwall Technology (LUST) makes it as light as a UST gets? great tread pattern, grips loose corners well at speed
Weaknesses:still a bit heavy compared to non-UST tires converted to tubeless with Stan's
    Similar Products Used:Kenda Karma 2.0 (non-UST), Specialized Roll-X 2.0 (non-UST)
Bike Setup:Specialized Stumpjumper FSR. wheelset are Mavix Croxxmax SL. Front tire maxxis Ignitor, rear Kenda Karma
Bottom Line:I wanted to replace my front tire which was the Kenda Karma 2.0 non-UST with Stan's. I wanted more cornering grip and I felt like the old tire wasn't cutting it. I purchased the Maxxis Ignitor 26x2.35" and love it. I have not had a problem with converting non-UST tires to tubeless w/ Stan's and I'll go that route in the future rather than a heavier UST tire. I wish the ignitor UST was a little lighter. wheelset are Mavix Croxxmax SL. I race XC in the Sport class.

Weaknesses:Smaller overall size compared to the 2.35 Kenda Nevegal I was using. But I not really sure that is a weakness at this point. Still plenty of tread getting to the ground.
