$45.00 | | Purchased At: | Ladera Ranch Cyclery | | Strengths: | Hooks up like a drunken prom date. Slow wearing (still looks like new after a few months of fairly aggressive use in SoCal and the Arizona desert); tracks well on loose, rocky terrain. Don't know how it performs in wet condtions and don't really care! Seats easily on the rim and holds air well with Stan's once inflated. Also very reasonable weight for a tubeless tire. | | Weaknesses: | I had this tire on both front and rear but think it makes a better choice as a front tire (it peforms admirably on the back as well but I tore a hole in it pretty fast...I do think WTB have a few durability issues on their tire line as a whole but that's just my humble opinion). Doesn't appear to be a true 2.1 width as it's a little skinny. Also a little pricey but slow-wearing so worth it as long as you don't tear a hole in the sidewall! | | Similar Products Used: | WTB Velociraptors, front and rear specific. Ran them tubeless with Stan's but wouldn't recommend it. Didn't hold air well at all and not very durable (although good traction and overall handling, much like the Weirwolf tire - would like to see a UST version added to the WTB product line). | | Bike Setup: | Cannondale Prophet 1000. Stock except for Azonic Xtension platform pedals and a GravityDropper seatpost. | | Bottom Line: | A great front tire as it holds a line well and typically won't wash out under loose conditions. I would consider running something a little more durable on the back though; I think WTB should improve upon their current sidewall technology. That said, the tread seems to wear down very slowly. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Suck in soft dirt/sand. Suck in dry corners. Do not hold air when pinched. WTB side logos only glues mud. Only good for climbing. Easy to get on/off (even without soapy water) from my wheels. $40.00 | | Purchased At: | online somewhere, they all pricematch | | Strengths: | AWESOME ON SAND. It has a flatter profile and 2.5 width let's me float on top of sand better than I used to. I also corner better on loose stuff. You should buy the 2.5 width if you are over 200 pounds I think. | | Weaknesses: | They don't seat easily, maybe because they are 2.5? I also have Stan's No Tube in them so maybe that is impacting them compared to past tires. Anyways I can't use handpump to start them from flat. I"d recommend Co2 on the trail, but hey why not have it anyways, handpumps suck in general. | | Similar Products Used: | Mosquito, other generic tires/treads that were on sale from nashbar/performance. | | Bike Setup: | '03 Jekyll 600 Cannondale, lefty front fork, fox float rear shock | | Bottom Line: | Great for sandy rides. Tread wear is average over rocks. No sidewall rips or punctures like some of my friends. They are compatible with Stans' No Tube. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

By far the most grip climbing I have ever experienced. I never used the tubed version so I can't exactly compare and say how much of the grip is due to the ability to run at a lower psi(I weigh 200lbs and run 30psi)going tubeless. These tires are great on hard pack and loose conditions. They corner well, climb well, roll over rocks and go over creeks with no problems. The only gripe I have with these tires is that I have to add air to them each time I ride. I could use a sealent but its not bad enough to justify that hassle and extra weight.
I really like these tires. My take is that the back tire is what matters, and I'm cheap so I use tires I get on clearance in the front. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

My TITUS came with Kenda Charisma's, and although they are light, the Kenda's had no traction when ascending hills, poor cornering, and instilled zero confidence. I decided to buy the Weirwolf UTB tires and am very happy with my decision. Just finished a race in Big Bear, and they handled great. from Seattle, WA Date Reviewed: April 18, 2005 | | Duration Product Used: | 3 months | | Strengths: | Tough and sturdy. Grabs and climbs fantastic! | | Weaknesses: | Rolling resistance high. Narrow for a 2.1. Expensive purchase at retail! | | Similar Products Used: | Hutchinson Spider | | Bike Setup: | Intense 5.5 with bontrager rim and chris king hub | | Bottom Line: | I run the front opposite of suggested rotation. I feel as if it provides less resistance that way, yet I can keep the back tire biting by keeping it the way it was intended to rotate.
I hate the fact that these run so small for a 2.1, yet don't come in a 2.3 UST, which would be perfect. Still, it feels as if they have a lot of rolling resistance, so it might help that they are a little thinner.
The best part is that these bite, hold and push you over the climbs. Any terrain. They are also good in corners IF the psi is low enough for the outer knobs to grab. And they are very good in mud, or so I've gathered from my muddy condition rides. So, I'm impressed enough with those two features I almost overlook everything else. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

$40.00 | | Purchased At: | Beyond Bikes | | Strengths: | This is my first UST. This review is for the 2.1. It rolls smooth, has great traction, handles predictably and hooks up nicely in most conditions. Holds air well. | | Weaknesses: | Running at recommended presure bounces you around like a pinball. Very weak sidewalls. | | Bike Setup: | Marin 4-6 adjustable travel. | | Bottom Line: | I bought this tire, rode three times and had the sidewall rip after a race while screwing around in the parking lot going over a curb! I bought a second. This one will not inflate. I tried Stan's; no help. I brought it to a bike shop, they couldn't get it to inflate. They threw another brand tire on to make sure the rim wasn't the problem. It was the tire! Defective out of the box. I love the way it rides, although it seems a bit narrow for a 2.1, but I can't live with the durability. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

Please do make suggestions here; I've used between 29-35 psi. The front tire steers very well and is easy to manuever but both just give out on corners, climbs, and downhills. There is also no shock absorbtion. I like the panaracers Fire XC and Conti Vert pro because of the volume and their ability to eat the trail, although both tires do tend to drift. I've always been a fan of the velociraptor but now I only ride UST. My terrain is very sandy, lots of loose rocks, berms, gravel, and huge sections loose over a hard base and slick rock.

$31.00 | | Purchased At: | eBay | | Strengths: | The Wierwolf tires have incredible grip in the corners, even in loose sand. They climb great, even on rocks. The sidewalls are WTB's DNA compound, you can focus on picking your line and riding fast without having to worry about the side wall tearing open. Mounted and inflated using a standard bicycle pump.
| | Weaknesses: | Rolling resistance is higher than WTB Velociraptor, and the Michelin XL S, but there is always a tradeoff. In this case the increased grip is worth it for the terrain I normally ride in. | | Similar Products Used: | WTB Velociraptor, Michelin XL S (UST) in green, and the WTB Wierwolf race 2.3 (Non-UST). | | Bike Setup: | Specialized S works (Epic), XT drivetrain, Bontrager racelight UST wheels & hubs, Avid Ti V-brakes. | | Bottom Line: | These tires will hook up in just about any terrain! If your more concerned with traction, these are your tires. The they are slightly smaller than some other 2.1 tires, but still hook up great. Unlike the Michelins tires, the sidewalls are thick enough to withstand use in rock gardens. The weight is lower (only 728 grams) compared the Michelin XL S UST (800 grams), but no worries about the sidwall ripping open as the thin sided Michelin XL S tires did on several occasions. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

No tire buckle at low pressures while cornering, hooks up very well.

I re-mounted the tire with the tread pointing backwards (anti-rotation) and it rides MUCH better. Far better grip climbing over rocks and roots. It also bites in much better in the corners. The lower rolling resistance alone is worth buying this tire compared to the tube + clincher version. This UST thing is pretty damn sweet! Even better when hooked up with grippy easy-rolling tires!

Great traction and good braking tire. It's on the narrow side though, so not quite enough of a footprint for hairy loose decents. It's hard to find good tubeless tires, so I bought another. Then the first one started to leak, after 2 weeks of riding. Found a pin prick hole, patched it, and it still leaks from the same hole, as if the air is travelling through the middle of the tire or something. After another month, the second one started to leak. So before every ride, I have to pump both tires up, which sucks. I question the durability of these tires. I've had Maxxis and Bontrager tubeless that have not needed air for months. So a great tire in terms of performance, but not a good tubeless tire. | Value Rating: Overall Rating: |

My thumbs still hurt! I add two scoops of stans and then pumped them. They took air on the first try! No soapy water or anything. Now that thin line that shows just above the rim dipped into the rim once or twice per tire but they still held air. I let them sit over night and then next day that line wasn't hidden anymore, I guess it popped into place over night. Also there were no pops as I pumped it like the hutch scorpions did. I added some more air then back down to 35 psi I ran them at 35 psi and on the jeep trail out to the trails it sounded like it was a bit flat but once on the trails, holy moly, these things rock, over fast trails, rock gardens, roots, fallen logs (which I supermanned over the first try but made it on the second attempt) mud, creek crossings. $45.00 | | Purchased At: | Cambria | | Strengths: | Grips, corners well. Fairly light weight for a tubless tire @ 720 grams. | | Weaknesses: | Is it really a 2.1? | | Similar Products Used: | Most UST tires out there. | | Bike Setup: | Ibis Silk Ti. Fully loaded. | | Bottom Line: | Used for the first time this weekend at the CA XC State series race @ Castaic Lake. Cornered and gripped well on the fairly lose hardpack/sandy conditions.
Seems like a great front tire for SoCal conditions. I'm using a Michelin Comp S in for the rear (slightly lighter, lower rolling resitance and it hooks up fine for me). I didn't always like how the front Comp S reacted while turning in somewhat lose, rocky conditions. It worked, but didn't inspire confidence. The WTB seems to be a good upgrade.
My only slight gripe is the fact that the 2.1 WTB looks smaller (less volume) than my 1.95 Comp S. I was hoping for a larger volume tire up front to enhance my bike's suspension qualities (w/out adding too much weight).
Anyone else think the tire is a bit on the small side for a true 2.1?
